That area isn’t rough. Boro was a nice place before all the immigrants came. The government have a lot to answer for unfortunately Middlesbrough was a cheap area so they moved all of the illegal immigrants flooded the town destroyed the culture. Nobody asked to be living with these people is a terrible thing that happened to Middlesbrough.

I don’t see any ‘immigrants’ starting their day by wandering the streets getting pissed like those three peasants at the beginning. One woman in a headscarf is responsible for that, is she?

I grew up in that area. Im 43 & it always had an immigrant community. They were respectful, worked & contributed. The schools also did a lot to integrate & raise awareness of the different cultures. Many factors contributed to the rapid downfall of the Gresham, Ayresome & town centre area we see here. The council moving out long standing residents & issuing compulsory purchase orders only to leave perfectly adequate housing rot for 15-20 years didn't help. When the council flattened large council estates, Whitney banks, Grove Hill & others, what was left of the town & areas of Linthorpe became the next available affordable housing for those on a low income. Those able to buy didn't want outdated & basic 2 up 2 down housing with no gardens or driveway for their cars. A lot of what you see is a result of poverty & the council not giving a toss.

Incorrect. Boro 's always had its rough areas (and nice areas) long before any immigrants arrived.

Middlesbrough and Stockton where both lovely places once upon a time but to me who was born in the early 80's do agree that the government is to blame because I remember it all going to shit after Tony Blair came into power with his bullshit slogan of "things will only get better" did it fuck

Grew up in M'bro in the the 40s, 50s n 60s. Lovely honest to goodness north of England working class town. Everybody worked hard and enjoyed life. I left in 1978 when the Council began knocking it down, disturbed established communities and imported 'people from the Empire' and... it has declined ever since. People like me left for distant shores. Love my memories of M'bro. All gone... sadly!

Heart broking when you see your town that was once a community that would die for each other in the hands of strangers that don’t care one bit the shame you’d carry at one time if you’d dumped your old mattress in the street I remember the silver jubilee in 1977 and the street party’s on every street in every town could you imagine a street party today 😢

Spot on , credible , and truthful. Dead right about "Show no fear"....I live off this road . Proper dumping ground for Eastern Europeans . The council don't live here , they just get paid for every batch of migrants they can move in. The question is...."Where & how ...did the English families , tenants get moved to , so quickly" ??? Romanians just throw household rubbish in the street. In the words of Middlesbrough Council , "They bring the positive side of diversity to the town". Here it is , in glorious colour . Great film.

@@Coney572100% right mate. My home town has been ruined by a lifetime of labour led socialist councils. I was born on Cannon Street in Middlesbrough in 1956, Cannon Street was a slum but populated with good honest hard working people. I still live in the town and I won't ever move out it is my home. Such a shame to see the decline. I always ask labour voters if they have controlled the council for the almost 70 years of my life why do I not live in the type of socialist eutopia that they promise us. UTB.

To be honest Bill I'd say most the areas of TS6 are as bad as each other nowadays, it's not just Southbank I would include as roughest area, as I'd honestly struggle to gauge that now. There's the likes of Eston Square/Whale Hill in TS6 if you've time to check that out, just next to Grangetown.
I even hear some folk say that Southbank's quiet these days! But there's been carry on in general I've seen that I wouldn't have 20 year ago on the streets around here, I am always watching my back and never used to feel that way.

Do the walk again on a saturday night.
Its a shame what that area has become. The video starts off outside the old westminister pub, used to be a great, busy pub in the 90s. it Flooded with immigrants.
I feel sorry for small businesess that have been driven out and home owners who cant sell up now.

I very nearly took a flat on Parly Road (above W.H.Watts). My elder brother talked me out of it. I'm so glad he did.
You get large groups of Eastern European men hanging about on corners, making the place feel quite intimidating at times.

Middlesbrough certainly has a lot more about it then this focusing on the obvious negatives to which any town/city has the boro is a large town which has an incredible history to be proud of but as a lot of the North East had her main industry and largest employers taken away from her the coal industry the steel industry to mention just the main two yet despite this Middlesbrough continues to develop and produce nationwide businesses or even global in some circumstances ship building another thing taken away from the boro dorman long who build Sydney harbour bridge and the world renowned Wembley arch all Middlesbrough based the government continues to take from the north east and yet dump all the Romanian asian and african trash upon us

Few of the local bag heads at the start…
Middlesbrough centre is another world from what it was 20 years ago… houses in that area are used by migrants or students.. the council are slowly starting to pull it all down.
Other areas mentioned at the start are not as bad as that.. possibly with the exception of south bank and grange town.
Just council areas but most people are friendly.
Some nice places in Middlesbrough just not many.
