man thats one sweet truck that isn't that bad @ all still cant beleive how solid she is from the looks of the inside of the door da bee's thought the same.. im really enjoying watchin this build thats for sure
nice truck lou keeper chevy give that little 235 a set of rings and Berings and a valve job and she will run like a singer sewing machine. super awesome truck very jealous. :)
Has anybody mention that what we have here is probably a Number 11 Cab, Chevrolet, 1940 or 1941? I'll guess that the example being torn apart is a C15 (3/4-ton). I imported a 1941 C30 from Norway about a decade ago. The original motor would be a 216 - six cylinder. Mine was rusted internally. Replaced the engine with the better 235, 1960 vintage-a much better engine. Nobody else has ever noticed the difference. You can find mine on TH-cam: 1941 Chevrolet Goes to War. Part I is at the Weldon Spring, MO re-enactment, Weldonkrieg. Part II is at Jefferson Barracks WWII Weekend event. Mine was half-way presentable and drivable when it arrived. You are a better man that I, Gunga Din. Regarding the engine, not having the two acorn nuts atop the valve cover is a give away that you do not have a 216-six. Given the condition of the truck, you are lucky that the engine was not seized.
I think keep it 235 if possible. a rebuild shouldn't be to bad and way easier than 4bt swap. Cheaper too. If compression looks good or even before you do it. I would pull the valve cover to see if its sludgy. if it is might want clean it and do mild rebuild at least rings and valve job and not chance it after putting alot of work in the paint job. I got a 48 ford f-1 that i had re painted and if id do it again i would get it running and drive it first to make sure trans and motor is good before paint work. i bought it in pieces so it wasn't drive able legally without fenders. and no bed but now its done it burns oil and found a dead cylinder that i didn't notice and needs trans and motor rebuild. just would of been easier when front end was off for paint. Otherwise keep up good work and do what you want to it not others. you cant please everyone.
That's not a hard engine to get running if it is not the original then it might already be rebuilt. Make that engine run and drive it around before you make the decision to spend alot of cash on it the truck.
If your going to put in a new engine I'd recommend looking at the Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel crate engine. It's a new crate engine program they have out and is better than a 4BT. Here's the link: cumminsengines.com/repower

235 Chevy inline sixs are all over in old 1950s grain trucks on farms.
Also hoists under the beds and all kinds of parts.
if its a 4 speed manual trans its really slow in order to pull all that weight with the 235.
POWERSTROKE IT !!!! Big 7.3s are easy to find !😁👍
Cummins all the way!!
Old 2 stroke Detroit Diesel would be Sick!
what kind of can do you have on your rev
I would give her a good power washing before getting into the motor
yes for sure

Are you going original or a restomod?
You have the worlds most understand wife.
4BT cummins is what that needs. It would also up the value of it once your done the restoration. If you can fit a 6bt thats even better tho.

12v cummins no electronics all mechanical
Jerry Pilch too big to fit maybe 4bt
exactly 4bt all the way
duramax

v8 and a blower? ;)
put a 292 inline 6 chevy little more power and still looks stock
Put a 12 valve cummins or a 350 Chevy in it.
A 4bt would be underpowered, go with a 6bt
