Is 2000W enough for both moving log and spliting at the same time? Could it be upgraded if there is need?

That little 7 ton splitter does great. Maybe I don't really need the 30 ton machine I have. But then, as an American, I feel the need for excess! 😁

Love your videos. So much said without commentary. Had some ideas for quick builds for the new workshop. Build a metal ramp to slide items into shop over the lip at doorway. Set up an use the big lathe as an anchor and pull items into the shop with the winch from the ATV. And finally, build a work bench so you don't have to work on the floor all the time. My knees are starting to hurt watching you work. Keep up the great work.

I am gathering parts for something similar, but mounted to the side of my wood trailer so I can just push the split wood right into it. Planned on using V-rollers from a boat trailer with chainsaw chain looped on sprockets down the center to pull the log ahead with each split. We cut mostly dead fall Oak, Walnut, and Elm so the 4/6-way wedge unfortunately isn't an option with a 7 ton splitter. I am using a similar splitter and an electric saw for cutting to length along with a quiet generator. Great channel. Keep up the good work!

  • @ScubaDubaJosh
    @ScubaDubaJosh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That was really clever to use the movement from the log splitter to also pull the logs foward. I never would have thought of that myself.

On my DIY log feeder I used an old pushbike sprocket welded to a socket and used and old ratchet handle and also weighted to hold and stop the log moving back on the return stroke, it also holds the log for cutting. It is very rough but works, I am looking forward to your method as I am sure that it will be more elegant. Thanks for the vids.

Making firewood crates sound like a really good idea. That way you only touch the firewood twice-- once when you process it and place it in the crate, and the second time is when you pull it out of the crate and into the stove.

    Awesome......
Idea - make the table smooth again & add big log dawgs (gravity hooks) over top the log. All on a horizontal pivot. Putting 5 or 10 log dawgs lengthwise along the log on both tables, close to the center-line & near the output.

Love the ingenuity, the weak link is that little log splitter, just not sure its going to hold up for long which would be a shame after all the work. I've made a log splitter from scratch which cuts on the push and pull, 2T ram and 10hp petrol engine, watching this I think I'm going to add a log lifter..... Not sure if you can add pictures but happy to share my design if people want to check out the concept?

I have to say, this has turned into a simple project that has certainly got out of hand... lol The amount of time, money and metal involved seems like you could have ordered in more split wood, stacked and ready to burn, then you would ever use... I get the real feeling that when you get this all automated, you will certainly need a more powerful hydraulic ram and faster motor. Thumbs Up!

*** To GET your logs to transition into the splitter head, use square stock with repeating holes drilled with a gap. Then cut that stock straight down the length through the holes. Invert those and weld onto your log slide in several places. CONGRATS.. you just made teeth to feed the log with little to no slipping. Place them perpendicular to the piston. ***

Donn is planning ahead and plotting out his autumn and retirement years. When you are old, things just don't work the way they use to. Bending over, lifting heavy stuff and sometimes just staying balanced can become a real challenge when you get over 70 years old. 👴🏼
If we can keep the evil world from blowing up or turning into a zombie apocalypse, you may grow old enough to discover this first hand. Let's hope. 😁

Irregardless of age the labor and time savings of moving logs from the forest vs moving pieces of logs from the cut down tree to the house and then splitting the wood moving and stacking in the storage area, yes this looks to be much better. With this he should be able to bring this operation inside the old barn area to be out of the weather.

Wow I think things have gotten out of hand my friend.. You do fantastic work no doubt about it. I'm thinking that what your building is really great, but to have such a small power plant bothers me. So much time and effort and the power plant is a weak link. I know everything is working the way it should and is really nice. I just think having a real hydraulic power plant is gonna be the best end product. I really applaud your work again, just wondering how far that little electric unit will take you. I've done wood for 40 years and have had firewood processors that were done well and always made my own changes and improvements. Good luck, and once again I applaud your effort.

It's an impressive build. It looks like it will be a huge timesaver. Is it going to dump the split wood into the back of the truck (or wagon) as well?

Split wood will drop on a conveyor and from there into wood crates.

I take it your adding a saw so on each pass it cuts the log for to drop down in to the splitter? Still awesome buddy can't wait to see it finished

Yes, I will be adding a saw.

You can use a spring to pull telhe slider faster back.

      Yup.

But that will require more force while splitting (which has a 99.9% of being needed:))

If the return on the wood splitter is slow have you considered a large spring to help pull it back

    • @DonnDIY

Yup. I have and probably will.
