US unemployment. What constitutes employment? Full time, part time or 1 hour per week? How many hours are being worked? At any rate, it’s low because inflation is very high there in the USA, atm.
I’ve always said the news is in the business of selling ad space. The more they keep you watching the more they can charge companies that want to advertise on their stations.
yep 100%
3:05 "Because we're human and life sucks" 😂😂😂😂 that got me early in the morning! Good joke
😆
In my case, my company decided to combine 3 departments into one department. Basically they laid off about 15 people across those 3 departments. I decided to volunteer to let go because I refuse to do the job of three departments for the same pay. Also there was favoritism specially the seniors so there was not point to stay.
sounds like a poorly run organisation! sorry to hear that
There's always tech layoffs with big corporations. This is as predictable as the sun rising
Exactly, specially in the US.
You've been a huge motivator of mine.
Just passed my Sec+, have my A+, Net+, VMware certs, just started my Google CyberSecurity Course to make sure my hands-on practice is up to par.
Been trying to ignore the sensationalism. I've figured it's a lot of lower level or less crucial staff getting hit on these layoffs.
You, and the fact that my peers have found some lateral help desk jobs quickly are keeping me motivated. 💪
Also, CDK's Cyber Attack being on all the headlines is telling right now.
well done! you did the right thing by keeping your head down are focusing on learning - that’s a winner’s mindset!
Thank you for the re-assurance. The video couldn't have dropped at better time than now!
Glad to help!
ironically, i was studying the google cybersecurity when this video notification showed. Thank you for the reassurance bro.
Keep up the good work 👏🏻
Same manh!😂🥴
@@muhammedsinan9361 It must've felt scary at first glance isn't? With all the tec layoffs 😒.
@@regulariousweedimaximus9495 it's virtually free. Its a good way to break in to cyber security as a first timer
How did you get the Google Cybersecurity site please I need it, is it free or to be paid for. Your response would be helpful
I see learning as follows:
1. Not knowing what you don't know (initial)
2. Know what you don't know
3. Practice what you know then back to 2
4. What you know had become second nature, back to 2 and 3. It's never ending 😄
The more I dive into the world of Cybersecurity, the more I realise how huge the domain is. I'm a highly visual person and often refer to Henry Jiang's Map of Cybersecurity Domain. I've started mind mapping and will continue to do so to fast track my learning.
thanks for sharing! this is the plan that I recommend:

Thanks for the reassurance, man
Any time!
pseudo-hiring aka getting hired for a project then getting laid off when it's done, this is by far the worst any professional can face in any field.
it was a bad judgement call. Unfortunately it happens…
AI is now replacing jobs and companies only need people for a handle full of things, most programs, workflows, can be automated making repetitive tasks obsolete, i really think the USA will experience something catastrophic event jobs event and UBI will really need to be introduced.
@@CyberPulseIT peoole have beeen predicting a catastrophic doomsday scenario since the dawn of time. I work in the cyber industry and I dont see this happening any time soon, but it makes for a cool story though
@@UnixGuy Well see you may be further i your career Imainly speak of low-level jobs with repetitive task that can automated, take a look at the restaurant industry, automated ordering screens its slowly happening and each one implemented equals a job lose to AI. Bu ti agree a remarkably interesting topic.
@@CyberPulseIT thats true! when you look closely, the automated checkouts weren’t really AI related. In fact, companies are extrmely slow at adopting new technologies 🤝🏻
I find it ironic, multi billion dollar businesses are getting breached and they are being picky with candidates

Great video and insight. Feeling excited for the future.
I’ll say that the people that get the industry certifications are just thinking they can land any role which obviously can’t happen as easily. Certifications are still good and recognized but not by itself; when paired with hands on skills and practical projects you mentioned it’s even better and the way to go get your foot in. Do both, not just Certs. Cheers 🥂
yep! I always used certs as a structured way to learn a subject as opposed to a piece of paper!
NSW state budget has cut Cyber Security NSW budget by a Huge amount, all the tempo contract roles are first to go.
Yeah I read about that!
That's gonna bite us in the future
Oof that title ma friend you can't scare me like this during these times😂😂❤
it was necessary so I can put an end to the nonsense :)
Good video! Just subscribed. Can i assume you used to be a Unix professional before switching to Cyber?
correct :) Sun solaris to be specific!
As someone with a high salary in the industry, the mistake I see noobs making (exactly as I did when I was a noob) is they are not specializing. Even if the job posting says "Cybersecurity Engineer/Analyst" that is not really a job. That's like saying "Scientist". A chemist's job is different from a physicist's. You need to niche down and decide the cert and exp path at the beginning of your journey. And there are several niches that are far more sought after than others.
thanks for sharing! you can definitely make a case for specialising!
Can you please share some of the sought after niche that could be recommended to look into please.
Very informative video thanks, what about the grc future job market ?

Very informative. Brothers remember the media controls narratives that's why i do my research. I recently completed the Google A.I Essentials course. I highly recommend taking this course because you will need some type of A.I/M.L skills in the future in cybersecurity.

Yes unemployment is down but look at the data. Most of the jobs being reported are underpaid and are part time jobs. There is a lack of higher paying jobs in the tech industry.
Thanks for sharing your views, however this doesnt reflect my experience in the industry. i havent really seen any part time jobs

not sure its thar simple but thanks for sharing
Of course it is right when I want to finally get into Cyber. Impossible for me to even get an interview. By the time I find a position, it has over 100 applicants already. But this video helps with confidence!
as explained in the video, it could just be the resume or lack of training or a combination of both - good luck!
I've been looking at doing the same. I was ready to go ahead with courses and certification, and now my six months of second guessing myself have returned.
@@angelalunsford2005 I’m not sure if you watched the video, but I wouldn’t base big decision on one comment. I have context if the above person has done any training at all
also any desirable job will have a lot of applicants. If one doesnt want any applicants to a job then there are a plethora of undesireabke jobs that no one applies to
How would you recommend I network with people within the industry?
I’m a beginner and I don’t know anyone who works in the field.
One way would by going to conferences and meetups as explained in this video:

@@UnixGuy Legend. Thank you 👍🏼
Thanks UnixGuy a lot for sharing such invaluable information ,
landing cybersecurity Jobs is tiresome for me , Mostly they require Security and Background check, as beginner you are not allowed to do remotely , what can You say fix it ? Even though I have the required skill set?
Regards
Your goal should be to gain experience, so take a job even if its not remote
not sure why a background check is a problem?
@@UnixGuy Great Question Sir, There are no job opportunities here in Ethiopia, Africa. No local companies are hiring due to the economic crisis and war. Therefore, I am obligated to seek opportunities in global markets such as Europe, the UAE, Australia, or the USA. However, when I apply via portals, they often require security clearance and use location filters that state I must be a resident of the specific place where I am applying or have experience working in remote positions. How can one gain experience in the first place?
I have continuously learned a lot from your channel, doing all the projects you suggested, such as virtual internships with Forge and Qualys vulnerability management, as well as PCI DSS, step by step all other too. Following your invaluable guidance and suggestions.
However, when it comes to job applications, I am stuck. Nobody even provides me with the opportunity for an interview. It is frustrating, and I don't know how to deal with this situation.
Thanks for your precious time , Really Appreciated Sir!
let's say they lay off a lot of cybersec and those poor people turns to the other road, to become an hacker, if they then start hacking more company, those company will need to re-employ those professionist again and the loop never end haha
haha damn thats a good point
jobs in IT are dead. after 20 years in the industry, i left for a 2 year break for mental health. i have applied to over 600 jobs in the last two years and have heard back from ZERO of them. moreover, before google stopped showing # of applicants per job, the total number for each job was over 5k. now google only reports 100+ applicants. so... if you see that, you know it's a dead job not even worth your time
Sorry to hear about your experience that must be challenging!
Unfortunately I can’t provide much input because I dont know much about your experience, location, how good your resume is, your qualificarions, etc
Hey mate, i am international student here in Australia and the tech market is really bad here, where most of opening are targeting experienced people. as a fresh grad even with internship experience and certification is not enough. Honestly i am on the verge of giving up and thinking of switching my career away from tech. You are a good guy mate, learnt a lot of things from you yet it wasn't enough for me.
sorry to hear about your situation but I can’t give you advice more than what I provide in my videos because I have no idea what skills you have, how good your CV is, what ‘certs’ you have and what experience you have
the market is in australia but yes it can be difficult for international students
same, i am feeling mate!..
am an international student in America, hoping to get a job after I graduate, not sure if I'll be lucky enough to do so though
What certifications do u have ??
How do you see oscp? Should it be the 1st cert towards pentester or should I start with easy certs first but unfortunately certifications are extremely expensive specially if you are living in a country like pakistan where my whole BS degree costs less than 1000 usd
this is the video you’ll need to follow:
th-cam.com/video/8K7iAJ9BNl0/w-d-xo.html
One thing that comes to mind is DEI. It's just a matter of time for big companies to realise that this is not profitable. It never made sense especially in tech. But again, I never understand how corporate thinks.
its gona be ok
This was helpful. Can you suggest me from i can learn cyber security properly.?
th-cam.com/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/w-d-xo.html
Hi Unix guy, I started working as a network monitoring professional after my graduaion (in a MNC)... now i've done CompTIA security+ what should I do next, should I stay here and work for 1 - 2 years and polish cybersecurity skills alongside or should I leave
follow this plan (skip the google cert part)
th-cam.com/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/w-d-xo.html
Sir, please , i need some advice, I've been wanting to be a pentester for 3 years but it's highly technical , which I don't really mind but it's apparently the most job-scarce field in cybersecurity and i don't know what to do or if its even worth pursuing it
it can be a bit scarce and yes it is highly technical. you can study pentesting but also try to combine it with ‘generalist skills’ from this list:
th-cam.com/video/rz0RL4Xue-A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-TixvS4ZVNF7f-4t
this way you can get work

Could you please share the names of a few Indian companies that you know hire freshers? In all my search across LinkedIn and other job portals, all the jobs I saw wanted atleast 1 - 2 Years of Security experience.
you will need to do a job search, there is no list of companies, go to each companies page on linkedin and look for jobs.
The state of entry level jobs in India is really bad. No one wants to hire freshers, and even intern roles either want experienced candidates or want the candidate to have the knowledge of a 2-3 year experienced security Professional.
Ive almost given up on finding a job in security as a fresher. And I do actually have IT experience but not of Security.
Im not sure how to even break into security now. Im interested in GRC and those jobs are even more rare in India.
Can you pls advice how to break into GRC with no security experience?
Or can you pls make a video on how to get GRC experience without having a GRC job?
India is a massive market and i personally worked with a few big service providers in India - No, the market in india is fine and hundreds (if not thousands) get entry level jobs in India.
