I am where I am today because of the sacrifices that were made by the ones before me. And yet I still need to fight for every single step I take forward.

I know what that meant. I live in FLorida and work in law enforcement. I met and worked with the first African American police officers hired in the 1960s. They were pioneers. They were only assigned to black neighborhoods. Their arrest powers were limited to arresting black people. If they saw a white person commit a crime they could only detain and had to call a white officer to make the arrest. When they got hired, many white racist cops quit the job cause they didn’t want to work with them. The city opened up the black police precinct to keep them away from white officers. So yeah the water was deep and it’s still above their heads.

He could face unemployment and willingly quit himself, only to become a vigilante, he could face unemployment, work the problem out, and then leave when the contradictions of his work become clear after the dust has settled. I think that this creates a story more dynamic and yet more grounded, or a situation more improbable, despite being more sound. Any show that can pull this off has my respect. But for me, I take less pleasure in watching feel-good copaganda than I could take from any other genre of improbable fiction. Especially since it's so surreal. On a tangent now, there are things wrong with this scene that could be corrected to make a more relatable scene for say, law enforcement officers watching this. 2:15 is the most important line in this scene. Good cops know who the bad cops are. They cover for the bad cops or turn a blind eye to what's going on, which in turn, makes good cops bad cops as well. Culture is the most powerful element in any social system and the culture inside policing is the biggest problem. You can not legislate culture away and no code of conduct can properly influence it. It is protected by the highest ranking officer down to officers on patrol. Until this is truly understood there is no fixing policing.

    • @silverhawkflash

Ngl with how they were building the arrest scene I thought Jackson was about to pull his gun on Stanton lol could’ve been an interesting turn for show purposes but I’d assume since the show tries to stay closeish to proper cop work nothing good would come from it for his character lol
From this whole exchange though I did really like how they made him go at Bradford as well because silence is complicity is a good message for everyone nowadays.

This is a TV show but this issue is common and real. It's not only a racist thing either. So many cops develop a control complex. (The dare you to dispute anything I say right or wrong because I'm a cop.) I worked with guys like that before. There are good cops, maybe one day the good ones won't loose there jobs for outing the bad ones.

THIS IS REAL... the fact that cops do these things in real life is scary. I don't wanna be anything affiliated with a cop because I don't wanna end up on the wrong side of things trying to take down racists and violent people. I mean a whole department can stage my death and I wouldn't even see it coming... plus that would be the only job I qualified for as I'm also a veteran and this country doesn't like hiring war vets

Bro I swear I don’t understand how Stanton got to be where he was. Everyone in that office could hardly stand him and knew what type of person he was yet like West said here they just allowed it to go on. If it wasn’t for Jackson being there Stanton prolly would’ve killed a whole family for a false accusation, remember he pulled an actual gun on them for trying to defend their innocent son who is terrified cause he was just minding his business and got tackled and getting cuffed without any explanation of why. Then Stanton angry and either too stubborn or crazy to admit he was in the wrong got mad when they try to make things right with the family talking about “these people don’t respect the law” like bro fr believed that badge give him a free pass to hurt or arrest whoever. See and thing is there’s actually officers like this irl and that scares me that at any moment me or my little brother or any of my family would get profiled like that and a cop like Stanton would get a slap on the wrist for it while our family is traumatized and appalled that something like that happened to us.

It’s honestly disturbing how hard people like Sgt Grey will defend bad cops. I don’t get why he immediately dismiss everything Jackson was saying. And saying “a lot of cops think that way” like that makes it okay???
