I have both the 6L and 10L PD slings. I have two thoughts on your dilemma..
    1. The 10L will have space for things like a light jacket and/or snacks or a small water bottle. If you're going to be walking around cities all day, it might pay to consider the non-photography things that you may need each day,
    2. If you are primarily going to Italy to take photos, then ideally, the majority of the time you will spend walking around the cities, and thus you will have your camera in-hand and not in a bag. if this is the case, then the 6L should be fine.
Final thoughts would be to take the 10L. You never know when you might need extra space (food, souvenirs, etc.) and you will always have space to store your camera if it's not always going to e in your hands.
Hope to see some footage of your trip! Cheers!

Thanks! It's going to be a great trip. The only concern I have now is fitting my Peak Design 30L travel backpack under the seat on my flight from Heathrow to Rome. I'll be flying on British Airways and the dimensions of a personal item are smaller on their flights versus many U.S. airlines.

I have the 6L .. I don't know how you fit all that in there!!! I do camera with one lens, + one extra lens and find it crowded. I'm thinking of the 10L now as well. Thanks for the video!

I don't know how I did it either. When pulling gear out of the bag it felt like clowns coming out of a clown car. Same vibe. Lol.

I also have the 6L Sling, and I agree-it gets packed, almost to the point of bursting. I’ve gone back and forth on this, thinking a sling should be small, minimal, and lightweight, while anything beyond that should be handled by a backpack. I tend to favor a two-lens kit, so I often carry a small prime lens like the Nikon 40mm f2 paired with a telephoto like the 135mm f1.8. While that setup works for the 6L Sling, it still feels overly cramped.
Because of this, I recently bought the Peak Design 13L Everyday Messenger. I thought it would be a good option for when I want the convenience of a sling but also need space for a 70-200mm lens. The Everyday Messenger can expand from 13L to 16L, depending on how you close the top, which is a nice feature. However, I find that I tend to fill it up just because there’s more room. This brings me back to the same dilemma: 6L Sling or a backpack?
For family vacations, I’ve been going with just one lens, and it’s so freeing. As a photographer, there’s always the desire to bring the “right” gear, but doing so can create a barrier between enjoying the vacation and making photographs. I’ve brought telephoto lenses on trips before, but realistically, what did I end up photographing? Mostly cool looking buildings and Mickey Mouse on stage far away. Once home, those shots of architecture or stage performances aren’t nearly as rewarding as the ones of my family enjoying our time together. In fact, if anyone takes their family on vacation and comes home with more photos of meaningless buildings than photos of their family, I feel this was a big swing and miss.
That’s why I’ve shifted my perspective from “photographing the vacation” to “photographing my family on vacation.” For this, one lens is enough, and I usually choose my Nikon 40mm f2 (I know you shoot Canon, but I’m talking about a mid-range small prime lens, which I’m sure Canon has great options for). So, if I were heading out on vacation next week, I’d pack one camera and one lens in the 6L Sling, which would also leave room for a water bottle.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm still on the fence. I actually may be returning the 10l sling and get the Peak Design 20l backpack. I realized that my 30l travel backpack may not fit under the seat on a British Airways flight. I'm not sure I want to gate check my luggage between London and Rome if it came to it.

I have the Peak Design backpack also, the Zip version. LOL Sheesh, I have a bag problem. I thought the shelf system of their backpacks would be great, but it just means everything fits loosely in there on the shelves and rattles around no matter what you do. I really dislike their backpacks. My Shimoda backpack on the other hand is about the closest thing to perfect I’ve ever seen. LOL…. Sheesh, I really have a bag problem, LOLOL

@@MichaelSeneschal The Peak Design Travel 30l backpack is the best one they make. I also have the 30l everyday and it works great as a EDC especially when I'm running to a coffee shop or going to work with gear.

Go with the 10L. I just took mine to Belgium and Germany and it fit everything in it I needed with room to put extra stuff that I may have picked up along the way. I also have the 6L and just like you, it gets cramped quick. And although they are supposed to be similar, the 6L's front pocket is nowhere near as big or useful as the 10L's front pocket. It may be because you have to stuff the main compartment so much that it tends to bulge into the front pocket leaving you with almost no room...maybe enough for a very slim wallet and a filter or two, but thats pushing it. Also, I didn't feel weird at all carrying around the 10L with me everywhere I went. It was great and offered so much more peace of mind. I hope my experience here helps. I'm definitely bringing my 10L with me any time I travel.

This is great to know. I'm deinately leaning towards the 10L over others. I sent the PD 6L and the Nomatic Peter McKinnon 8L slings back to Amazon. The last piece of the puzzle is my personal item. I'm planning on using a TravelPro Maxlite 5 as my suitcase that I will put in the overhead bin. This will mean my PD Travel 30L backpack will need to beneath the seat in front of me, but I'm concerned it will be too big to fit; especially on a British Airways flight. What bag did you use when going to to Belgium was it just the 10L sling or did you carry this in a larger bag? Finally did you have a suitcase as a carry on? Looking forward to hearing any feedback or advice.

@@Richard_Lutz I only ever travel with a carry-on and a personal item. My personal item was the Peak Design 10L sling which fits perfectly underneath the seat in front of me. My carry on is always one of two Tom Bihn bags; either the 45L Techonaut or the 35L Synik. Both are great.

you should try wotancraft pilot 7l sling. I previously used a peak design sling 6l, and had the same problem as you. where I felt the bag was too stiff and small. then i bought wotancraft pilot 7l, and i was very surprised. Even though the size is similar to the Peak Design 6L, the Wotancraft feels much more spacious. Apart from that, Wotancraft also provides a modular pouch that can be attached to the side of the bag.

So you can add capacity to carry additional lenses, bottle or gear in the future if you feel the capacity is still insufficient

IMHO if it doesn't have RFID and also cut/slash proof protection then I'd pass on any travel bag these days.
Do you know how easy it is to pick up credit card details remotely? Getting on a crowded subways, bags get cut all the time.
