I don’t know even how to type this. Back in 2014 I was resuscitated in an ambulance in my driveway - all from the N1H1 Flu. I spent months in the hospital recovering from that crazy illness. But - enter Ian and his band. Once I could try to recover my strength, I began to walk, listing to Big Wreck. I swear I walked 500 miles that year (not exaggerating) listening to Albatross and Ghosts. I am fortunate to be a musician (in Texas) with ties to a Canadian musician who’s wife worked with Big Wreck - well, she shared my story with the band, and Ian and band sent me - all the way down to Texas, a package that had signed CDs, a BW hat, Posters, and even Ian’s custom signature guitar slide - (I’m a guitarist) - but the best gift was a hand written note from Ian, wishing me to get better. Don’t know why I digressed (see what I did there?) - but I wanted to post tonight to just say that Dave McMillan is one of the best bass players I’ve ever listened to. He is amazing. And on “Control” - it’s what I listen to. Bless you all BW fans and followers. And cheers from Texas. 🙏
I will never grow tired of this song. The push and pull of the music, the tragedy in the lyrics, the pain in the vocals. Like warm honey poured through the ear onto a wounded heart. I know none of that made sense but darn it if it isn't true.
Perfect blend of "old school" and "new school" rock. If it were possible for Dire Straits, Alice In Chains, STP, Led Zeppelin, and ZZ Top to have a child...this is what it would sound like!
one of the best unknown berkley students out there. this dude would give john mayer a run for his money if the damn record execs would actually promote him properly.
I just started listening to this band. I don't know anything about Ian's background, but I assume he studied jazz. You can tell it in some of the melodies and riffs he writes. But you can really hear it in the solos. Super sophisticated and inventive stuff.
Simply genius songcraft. This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite songs EVER. Everything about it, from the dynamics of the way the song builds to the extremely subtle yet intricate and tasty drum work (the little crash choke at the beginning of the solo, for instance), to the lush, gorgeous guitar tones and sublimely tasty guitar solo, THIS is the good shit, people! Simply a brilliant piece of music.
Been listening to Big Wreck 12 years. Saw them Twice when they came to new york in support of Ghosts(Buffalo) and Grace street(Rochester). Hard to believe how time flies. I still spread the love back home in florida.
Not so much under-rated as un-rated. Nobody's heard of them. To get radio play today you have to do catchy danceable garbage born with a click-track and polished to a fine gleaming turd in Pro Tools. Big Wreck is old school which is why their sound is so recognizable and LUSH like in this song. I'm doing my part... telling everyone I meet about their greatness. Hopefully grass-roots approach from folks like us might get the word out...? Let's hope. ;-) Cheers!!
At least there are still some artists that have talent ...not like the entertainers who aren't even capable of writing their own stuff. Thank you Ian+Big Wreck.
I love Big Wreck & Thornley! I've seen both of Ian's bands live & they are tremendously awesome live! Ian Thornley is an amazing song writer & guitarist/vocalist.I'm sure if Ian & either one of his bands was American they would have much more commercial success! Just like The Tragically Hip who are Huge in Canada but still have yet to fully break into the States, they have fans on border city's but other than that they've been held back.I remember when The Hip played on Saturday Night Live.
This song came out when I was in college (I went to college late). I was working my ass off to make grades, but I was so lonely and hungry. I was thinking about trapping the wild hares that run around the metro area near the campus just to have some meat. This song came into my life at a very perfect time. Calmed me.
Thank you Big Wreck ! I discovered Thornley/Big Wreck a year ago and I am amazed at how addicted I am. The song writing, the voice, the talent of the band, the guitar playing ! . I thoroughly enjoy Every Big Wreck and Thornley album with every song being worthy with standouts like: LadyLike, That Song, The Oaf, Off and Running, Blown Wide Open, Overemphasizing, Broken Hands, Hey Mama, A Million Days, Wolves, This is Where my Heart is, Under the Lighthouse, Head in the Girl. Thornley: Failling to Pieces, Beautiful, Come Again, Underneath the Radar, Your Song, Make Believe, Man Overboard..... Amazing. These guys are the real thing - talented artists making real music. What more could you ask for in a rock band ?. Although I would love a mega stadium show - it would be amazing to see and hear their songs in a big production. Please keep making great music and know that you are bringing music joy to a lot of rabid fans ! I write this because I love music and the joy it brings and I would love if every rock fan discovers Big Wreck. If you are a fan call your local radio station and request Big Wreck, write their management company (off their website) and ask for a local concert !... Cheers.
Has a Dire Straits feel with Ian's beautiful voice and arrangement and tone that would make Mark Knofpler envious...I love BIG WRECK!!!! Thank you Ian for being alive...you make the worst days easy when I hear you sing it out loud!
Diggin that rocky, jazzy, overdrive sound, especially at the end. One of the few great modern rock bands out there. One time, driving down the highway, by myself, the lyrics kinda made me a lil teary.
I love Big Wreck, they're that band that you don't know any of their songs or you know all of them. Because after you hear one you just wanna keep going until you're sad you can't anymore
Best lineup in my opinion...by far my favorite days of Big Wreck. I miss seeing you guys! Neta.... and Doherty(RIP). Best wishes to the new band setup and future outcome! keep 'em coming!
What an outstanding set of songs! Written & composed by true professionals- every last song! If you’ve never heard these guys here’s your chance- put on your beats, do 1-2 bongs and go ona REAL musical adventure! 😎

I really love these guys. The whole album is such an impressive piece of work. Dense, rich, highly textured and above all every song is superbly written. This is my favorite rock album since Wasting Light by the Foo's, and it may be better.
This song is exactly why Big Wreck is one of my faves; one always expects the first single on the radio to be the best. Big Wreck never ceases to amaze me with their uniqueness and depth as a group of true composers. Bravo!!
this album... is killer. go ahed, pirate. we all know how to do that. "Could you imagine...if you did something with out anyone knowing,..you did the right thing." Thats how i got sober....
main stream radio is not ready for the beautiful lyrics and music.why this amazing tune will never be "top 20" but for those of us who get it,and love Ian,Big Wreck &amazing artists they are will and always will! there are 20+ songs of theirs which main stream will never pay or"get"lets keep those for us. I have been a fan since., and have seen Ian,Big Wreck,Thornely,Big Wreck (I said it twice!)) more times than fingers and toes I have&they NEVER disappoint.Keep making the beautiful music boys!
Oriental sounding intro is so different, I like that. The musical play with the lyrics " never feels like the real feeling dealing with the poor deal hand-me-downs" and the verse before that, just flows so well with the music, I love that part. This was the first song my truck's cd player chose after I opened the cd, I had it on random. And the Fleetwood Mac/Dire Straits feel too. That guitar solo has elements from the Catfish Blues jams, I think, but either way I love those scales!!
For the record, I'm one of the 'stupid masses' who never heard of this band until recently. Love me some Pete Thorn and happened to catch an interview (I think) where they asked what he was into lately and he mentioned Big Wreck/Thornley... now I'm amazed I've not heard of these guys. SO good. I'm buying an album at a time and binging on it for weeks/months before moving on to buy the next album. Ghosts and Albatross are both mind-blowing. I've got "In Loving Memory Of" sitting on the desk at home... problem is I can't get these other CD's out of my car... can't live without those for my daily commutes!!
I can't believe I fell off the Big Wreck bandwagon since "Tiny Pictures"...liked some songs on it & wasn't really a fan anymore. Big Wreck is still together and thankfully I only have 4 albums to catch up on and I started yesterday listening to all their singles & music videos, and I'm impressed! Bought this album along with "Ghosts" on iTunes just now, look forward to hearing what I've been missing. (Buying "Grace Street" & the new album tomorrow...need to put money on my account again.)
yes..... they are to fukin good ......and the public are to stupid to recognise the best band Ive heard in years......what a singer and guitar player............incredible talent.......
Freakin amazing! Between finding Big Wreck and Poets of the Fall this year....its been a true discovery of REAL amazing music for me! Love it all! Greetz
Love the new album start to finish. The outro on this song conjures my mind to a medieval setting where an inebriated assassin is stumbling home from the pub after an evening of drinking.
2019 anyone?! And also, for alllll you Canadians out here keeping BW alive, doesn't this one sound familiar to - "she talks crazy talk mumbo jumboo" these guys are wizards but who else hears that classic tune within this songs melody?? Definitely not trying to out Ian and the guys as copycats just a group of underrated Canadian legends Inspired by older underrated Canadian classic rock... makes total sense! Ian still rips with his modern twist everytime a guitar break comes. Keep on mesmerizing all of us can't wait to see you guys again live. Cheers from niagara falls Canada! 🙏👊🤘
glad they are back...love the late 90's stuff from them...and now...wow, this song, wolves and albatross....thats three for three so far from the new album..my next purchase for sure
Very Knopfler! I likey. Big Wreck has been one of my favorite bands since I saw them on tour with Dream Theater in Pittsburgh in 2001. SO excited to see a new CD.

I think he studied at Berklee, and where he met the original members
I wish I had control over my music the way Ian does. I'm not sure what I love hearing more, Ians masterful guitar playing, or him singing.
Why wasn't this a world wide hit????
This song is just amazing.... simply amazing.... that's all I can say about it. Well, that and I LOVE it!
These guys are criminally under recognized. Absolutely phenomenal.
Simply genius songcraft. This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite songs EVER. Damn how does this not have a million plays at least. Everything about this song is amazing.
Been listening to Big Wreck 12 years. Saw them Twice when they came to new york in support of Ghosts(Buffalo) and Grace street(Rochester). Hard to believe how time flies. I still spread the love back home in florida.
Most underrated band. I saw them live this year. Best live performance ive witnessed and ive seen hundreds of big name bands live.
Truly are the best touring rock band on the planet. Their live shows sound even better then recorded format.
Какая прекрасная песня! Не могу перестать слушать её уже второй день!❤
what a fantastic song ...I never get why these guys are so underrated
because all the real bands get the shaft is always been that way is a damn shame

They had a lot of radio play back in the day, at least in MB Canada
They are perhaps a little Undersold....
At least there are still some artists that have talent ...not like the entertainers who aren't even capable of writing their own stuff. Thank you Ian+Big Wreck.

This band is such a well-oiled machine when they jam together!

agreed, incredible live

+AWWYEEAA You know I love that soooong
sydsdh so glad you found them ! Been a fan for 20 yrs and still can’t get enough of BW 🤘🤘❤️
Don't forget Oh MY!
That solo is a wave of awesome smothered with musical maestra, with a hint of "who gives a damn". Love it.
Lovin the Fleetwood Mac/Jim Morrison Vibes here
Dat. Solo.
I don't think anyone's played a guitar like that for the last 15 years on the rock scene.
- Locked out of heaven and it’s all my fault -.. powerful words .. amazing song .. ❤️BW !
I am blown away by this album & this song. thank you Big Wreck!! Ian is just an all around amazing musician & vocalist..
This will be looking over due! Faaaking sublimely arranged songs..Thornley has a wicked tone! Peeps..see ya in the peg on April 6th!
I love the feeling I get listening to Big Wreck. This is another solid tune with big vocals and guitar work. Primo!
It makes me think of the melancholy of a small town in the middle of nowhere
Has a Dire Straits feel with Ian's beautiful voice and arrangement and tone that would make Mark Knofpler envious...I love BIG WRECK!!!! Thank you Ian for being alive...you make the worst days easy when I hear you sing it out loud!
Thanks for all your great music, from Gordon in Pennsylvania, love it all
Man I love the wiggle riff. That is wicked. I also love how they lay awesome vocals down every time.
Dire Straits vibes all over this one for me... that is..until.. that breakdown.
Ooomph....🤘🔥
Absolutely love this song... so many Big Wreck songs have a twinge of melancholy yet they're so beautifully addicting.
Diggin that rocky, jazzy, overdrive sound, especially at the end. One of the few great modern rock bands out there. One time, driving down the highway, by myself, the lyrics kinda made me a lil teary.
Please turn your friends onto this band, they will love you for doing so. Tx Roger
Done, done, and done... and done again! :p
I love Big Wreck, they're that band that you don't know any of their songs or you know all of them. Because after you hear one you just wanna keep going until you're sad you can't anymore
One of my faaaaavorite songs by you guys; it’s a tie between this and “Oh My.”
Best lineup in my opinion...by far my favorite days of Big Wreck. I miss seeing you guys! Neta.... and Doherty(RIP).

Love the Dire Straits feel...Ian I could listen to you solo over that all day!
Amen, amen, and amen.... he's a walking-talking box of influences. Love how he makes it all his own though.
Sort of Grunge Jazz...I love it.
Absolutely adore these guys, great lyrics, great song, great sound, just great in general. Thanks for the wonderful music.
Did you hear it, kids? It was the real music...
ian's guitar solos are always a treat to listen to!
I really love these guys. The whole album is such an impressive piece of work. Dense, rich, highly textured and above all every song is superbly written. This is my favorite rock album since Wasting Light by the Foo's, and it may be better.

Ian Thornley & Rodey Walker inspired me to become a singer. So blessed to be have this amazing canadian sound.

yes..... they are to fukin good ......and the public are to stupid to recognise the best band Ive heard in years......what a singer and guitar player............incredible talent.......

Great Canadian Band. Awesome Musicians
My life is complete my band is back !! Thank you guys !!!
What a great band!!! And another great song :)
Love the new album start to finish. The outro on this song conjures my mind to a medieval setting where an inebriated assassin is stumbling home from the pub after an evening of drinking.
This new album definitely rivals their old stuff... maybe its even better!
Wow, this song is off the charts

FarBeyond TheWall close second ..
Man Thornley is such an underrated guitarist.
Very Knopfler! I likey. Big Wreck has been one of my favorite bands since I saw them on tour with Dream Theater in Pittsburgh in 2001. SO excited to see a new CD.
You guys' studio vids are just plain the best.
I am just digging this band. This tune is one of many favorites :D
Love having the Big Wreck sound back!
I've seen Mark K and I loved it,,,that being said,,,I LOVE BIG WRECK,,,,
reminds me when i was sitting on a dock in cancun and the local house band
in a hotel near by was playing santana, really took me back.
i like ALOT of different kinds of music, but anything involving Ian Thornley has to be very high on my list of favorites!!
Love these raw videos! No need for fluff with talent this good!
this song is about my life I swear every verse hits so close to home if your reading this ian thanks
cant just thank Ian.... have to thank the whole band
+chase Mullin Ian sings the lyrics
+Matthew Scarfo yes I'm not dumb, but he doesn't play every instrument in the song so cant just thank Ian
+chase Mullin lol to both of u
True that. I think this might be their finest effort of all time... and that's REALLY saying something.
this is soooo good. I thought that too about fleetwood mac.....the chorus is very sting. great soloing
I have too say this is one of my faves off albatross. cant wait to watch your show in december bought my tickets today
This is the first time I heard this....its like crack for my ears, wow what a great song.
I can't wait for the show in Victoria,,,gonna be awesome.
