    Great video. We all strive for financial independence and better life. It’s not difficult in achieving this through the right investment, living frugally, and budgeting. I’m glad I learned early in life to work hard for financial freedom

      I think it's not always about fear, Sometimes realistic factors discourage people from reaching their goals in life. For instance, I've tried investing in the stock market several times but always got discouraged by fluctuations of stock value

    I use 3 fund with Roth IRA fidelity 🙌🏼 2 months ago I exchanged my bond index for a small cap value mirroring the Russel. It’s weighted 10% right now and I’ve seen great returns. I’m at 65-70% total market and 20-25% international. I’m 31 so aggressive is good!
    I’ve read about keeping 5% small cap value in addition to the standard 3-fund has show greater returns. I might stick with that and reallocate when I add bonds in to get more conservative over time.

    My takeaway is I think you should stay 80/20 practically until you are 3-5 years from retirement, then at three years go straight to 20/80 and call it done. If you look at the historical returns portion of the video, in any consecutive three year period you are never negative for the sum of those three years. I get why some may want to gradually get themselves from 80/20 to 60/40, then to 40/60, and finally to 20/80 but I just don't see the point, given the fairly large sample size we have.

    What are your thoughts on just putting Roth IRA Investments into a Target Date Fund? Is the Three Fund Portfolio method more effective?

    • @Guest-dl2vw
      @Guest-dl2vw 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A Three-Fund portfolio would be more effective than a Target date fund! However, with individual Index Funds you have to rebalance every so often, maybe once a year or so; this is not a problem but it would take some thought, take a few minutes a year. I'd go with Vanguard's VTSAX, VBTLX and a smidgeon in their Total International Stock Index Fund (I believe the Ticker is VTIAX?). Take, say, you age and subtract it from 110 or 100; that is the amount to stocks; the balance goes into bonds! Of the portion going into stocks, decide what % you want going into International. I'd probably shoot for 85%-90% of the stocks being US and the remainder going into International. That's it; pretty straightforward.

    • @rogerdoger9939
      @rogerdoger9939 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would just go with an S&P 500 fund. At age 50-55, reevaluate to move some money to a bond fund.

      @phungle8890 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      wondering the same

  • @FIREownyourtime
    @FIREownyourtime 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Although simple, i would not apply to everyone. A s&p 500 index fund and QQQ etf and some international large cap growth funds, plus mid/small cap fund like VEMPX is going to perform much better with tons of diversification. You can compare your choices using a portfolio analyzer. Also, plenty of questions about difference between ETFs and funds. They are the same thing in a different wrapper. ETFs trade every second like a stock while funds only have one price per day. To allow automatic investment over time, you must choose fund over ETFs since your acct can't pick the timing to buy ETFs for you.

    Hi Humphrey. Thanks for your sharing on this. I've seen many people talking about the wonders of index funds and I get it. My question now is, when do you cash out? Mutual funds and ETF equivalents will have basically the same performance. On the expense front, their expense ratios will be in the same general ballpark (although in my experience, ETFs seem to be a hair lower). The biggest difference is really that minimum initial purchase ($3k for mutual funds), and that the mutual fund price calculation is at the end of each day versus ETF being real-time updating/trading throughout the day. You really can't go wrong either way, you're invested in essentially the same thing just with these very tiny nuance differences.

This seems like it might be the right choice for me...I want something conservative with not much chance of loss with a growth rate of around maybe 3-5%. Leaving it sit in my savings account seems like such a waste and money market accounts are almost worthless as well. You think this would be a good fit for my situation?

($120,000 minimum) Then, live as modestly as possible, perhaps an apartment for $1,500 rent. Then begin investing $10,000 monthly into your investment portfolio. it's ez money :D
