You are one of my all time favorite channel on TH-cam. Most channels on TH-cam only care about Zeppelin, Hendrix, etc. But you teach songs by post-punk bands, and that's amazing. I would love to see some Joy Division, Sonic Youth, more Smiths, more Television, Cocteau Twins, Wire, Swans ... Please don't stop making videos. You are incredible.
Thanks very much. Yes, I obviously love Hendrix, Zep and all that too, but TH-cam is already saturated with lessons like that, so I'm just trying to do my own thing and find stuff that's a bit less obvious. Some great suggestions there - will bear them in mind for future videos.
In my opinion the best song ever made. Great video mate, enjoyed the gear info too. I always play the chorus bit on the 9th/11th but I could be wrong, I could be right! 😎
One of the besr guitar channels on tbe Tube,, He keeps our guitar heritage alive and unlocks the mysteries of classic riffs when there was no social media ,,love it !!
Brilliant as ever. For new players, note how for most of the time above 3 frets, his wrist and palm is no where near the neck. Finger tips is what you should aim for.
Hi Adrian - I was watching the PIL documentary last night and actually thought of you. I have learned so much from you over the last year and a half, including this one. I’m always amazed at how similar your musical tastes are to mine. I’m super grateful you are uploading so much great content all the time. Cheers to you!
you can really see how guitarists like John Squire took inspiration from the swirling, chorus-drenched tones that these musical innovators introduced to the world
I clearly have come to this very late - and I stumbled it by looking for "Another Girl,Another Planet" - which I now finally have mastered. All strength to you Adrian - not just the lessons but the kind words about the "anti-guitar heroes" - couldn't agree more!
the excitement about this records release was intense. the oranges and lemons in Oxford was a punk pub with the best punk ska reggae new wave juke box known to man. also a live venue regular to John ottway and wild willie Barrett , the ruts you name it. when a new release of interest was out it would be in the juke box by lunchtime. the O&L was full at lunchtime to hear this. it did not disappoint! over and over it went. the guitar was something you really had not heard before especially with Jims solid beat and wobbles phenomenal bass. never seen your channel before, great presentation sounds ace.ty for picking up on this great single. Now I know how to play it too!
Given your proclivity to focus on guitarists like Keith Levene, etc., can I suggest you look at John McKay (from the early Banshees)? I feel he's one of the earliest (and most important) influences on nearly _all_ of the so-called 'post-punk' guitar players we know of today... _Nobody_ has done a credible job of working out most of his work, save maybe _Mirage_ . I'd love to see you tackle _Placebo Effect_ and _Icon_ . Thanks, and appreciate your work BTW...
Superb break down of this song! Really takes me back to the early 80s when I was in art school. I was very surprised to recently learn that Keith Levene was a guitar tech for Steve Howe in his teenage years. Their styles are so different.
Thanks for your channel. I've played forever but never learn songs per say just at started writing so g as soon as I knew a few chords. You teach the I kind of stuff I love. Thanks.
Hi Adrian - thanks for posting this one. As others have commented it's really good to see tutorials of some less mainstream, highly inventive guitar players getting posted. I've always struggled with the timing on this song. It seems like both the drums and bass are playing strict 4/4 time but Keith Levene seems to be playing in 6/8 for the most part! The only time I really get it on track is for the A and D bars at the end of each 8 bar cycle. Baffling but brilliant!
Adrian, really love your breakdowns and lessons. So entertaining and informative! On this theme of so-called guitar anti-heroes maybe you could feature a lesson based on Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins or one featuring the work of Michael Karoli of Can.
YES! Fantastic video. As a life long PiL fan I must say this is great to find. I use to jam on this song in the basement with friends as a teenager and I did it half correct and half made up. Great to see this spot on how-to tutorial. Funny that years later I get to learn the proper way! I've always loved Levene's playing and that era of the band. Thanks for the great video Adrian and keep them coming. Happy New Years from NYC!
Another brilliant lesson. Funnily enough I've already tried to play this but could not quite get it - with your vid & tab tomorrow's job is to nail it once and for all. Many thanks!
I heard this on the radio yesterday, and then was going to suggest it as a lesson...and it was already here! It would be cool if all of these post punk playlist (I think that exists, but maybe everything is not in there?) Thanks for all of your work! I love all of these vids!
Keith was a great guitarist and a couple more worth mentioning are John McKay from the Banshees who was an early player in this style and of course Roland Howard from the Birthday Party just listen to Release the Bats incendiary!!
hi Adrian I really love your vids...you are one skilled guitar dude...could you please make this old punk happy and do some more punk lessons cheers Bert.
Hi Adrian sounds amazing. Takes me back yo seeing them in 1983. When I saw them. But what are your amp and guitar settings? I can get chords but can't find the right voicing.and sound
Hi Adrian, great stuff and couldn't agree more with all comments thus far. Any chance you could include some comments on effects used for each tutorial?
Great to find you and this song. You mentioned the backing loop being available, but I don't see it on your website, or a link to it. Is it still available please?
Can i be devils advocate, youre playing this tune almost correct. Keith himself was a very good friend of mine and he taught me a hidden note in this song you wouldnt even know existed if you wasnt told , i was his singer in metal box in dub band. id love to show you this hidden note in a private video if youre game ? get in touch
Hi' Adrian first let me say' Outstanding work' a big Eye opener ' from a rusty Old Player like my self' where can i find the backing track link you put together' for public Image Track.. ??? Many Thanks...
Am I imagining things or did the 2nd part of the A section (4th fret barred w/pinkie on 7th) become the main riff for I Could Be Happy by Altered Images?

Awesome. Can't wait :)
Oh man ... how about one of the greatest intros of all time..... Seattle by PiL !!!!????
He does a great version of 'Shadowplay', check it out
ashikombat what Swans tracks would he play? I assume you stuff after Filth-Children of God?
RIP Keith. Legend.
Fuckin' sucks
Finally somebody does this song!! This is one of the very few songs which blew me away from the very first time I heard it. Levine was a quiet genius.
You have the best taste of any guitar teacher I’ve seen.
Adrian, your vids are an oasis in the desert. You rule dude!
Haha, very kind of you to say so Noah - thanks!
Excellent as always!:-)
What great riffing, simple but so powerful. This guitar work was so ahead of it's time.
In my opinion the best song ever made. Great video mate, enjoyed the gear info too. I always play the chorus bit on the 9th/11th but I could be wrong, I could be right! 😎

Thank goodness for tube channels like this that keep epic songs like this alive.
Brilliant as ever. For new players, note how for most of the time above 3 frets, his wrist and palm is no where near the neck. Finger tips is what you should aim for.
Thanks for another great lesson! Seems like you are the only one on youtube doing post punk...
A brilliant tutorial.....RIP Keith Levene 11/11/2022

I’ve been coming back to this one for years. Great work Adrian.
brings a smile, the guys you mention, the real deal.. loved this single for those reasons
Love that post punk metallic guitar sound Levine and McGeogh being the prime examples.
you can really see how guitarists like John Squire took inspiration from the swirling, chorus-drenched tones that these musical innovators introduced to the world
let's not forget Andy Gill may he rest in power. His feedback in "Love Like Anthrax" still blows my mind and perks up my 👂 👂
Levine especially with his Aluminium Neck guitars and I believe an aluminium guitar pick but could be wrong there
John McKay invented this sound, everyone forgets him
Just to say thank you, I am learning and progressing with all your tutorials. Thanks again mate.
I like the tone on your guitar better than what's on the recording. Well done!
Love the fact that I was playing the track yesterday and today TH-cam pops this up. Nice work. Cheers.
Best tutorial on this song available. So much more accurate than all the others.
I clearly have come to this very late - and I stumbled it by looking for "Another Girl,Another Planet" - which I now finally have mastered. All strength to you Adrian - not just the lessons but the kind words about the "anti-guitar heroes" - couldn't agree more!

Excellent! Keep up with these post-punk songs!
Agree I love that post punk/New Wave era some great stuff in there which isn't covered much.

Good request. I'd like to see some John McKay stuff
Superb break down of this song! Really takes me back to the early 80s when I was in art school. I was very surprised to recently learn that Keith Levene was a guitar tech for Steve Howe in his teenage years. Their styles are so different.
Thanks so much for this, brings back some great memories ! My band back in 1986 covered this a couple of times live for kicks.
Adrian your lessons are the best on TH-cam please keep them coming mate.
You nailed it. Takes me back. Thanks from an old git.
I've loved that song since I bought the CD in the early 80s - thanks so much for showing me how to play it!
Still have the original 45 (bought when released) and the Public Image newspaper it was wrapped in.
Keep doing what your doing. Absolutely among the best online tutorials around. Riff selection always interesting.
Thanks for your channel. I've played forever but never learn songs per say just at started writing so g as soon as I knew a few chords. You teach the I kind of stuff I love. Thanks.
38 years later, I finally learn how to play this ;-) I'm crap at working songs like this out...
Ronno4691
Me too, never knew it was this easy

Funnily enough i'm trying to work this out for piano atm and this is super useful. thanks!
Great guitar part but as you say Jah Wobble's bass line is what makes this song. Immense.
NSTRUG : The bass line means nothing without these guitar chords.
@@esesenordenegro2064 Gee how insightful...
Great help. Always loved this riff
My ALL TIME favorite song !
I heard this on the radio yesterday, and then was going to suggest it as a lesson...and it was already here! It would be cool if all of these post punk playlist (I think that exists, but maybe everything is not in there?) Thanks for all of your work! I love all of these vids!

Ingenious! So THAT’S how it’s done. Thanks, Ade.
'Allo..... 'Allo You bloody nailed it man.
This channel is a gem!
Dude, Your lessons are so good. Much appreciated.
Keith was a great guitarist and a couple more worth mentioning are John McKay from the Banshees who was an early player in this style and of course Roland Howard from the Birthday Party just listen to Release the Bats incendiary!!
Spot on, you've nailed his style.
The Edge owes a lot to Keith Levene+++
The Edge owes everything to mastery of his delay pedal
@@alexanderbrown4250 and Keith Levene.
Keith Levene owes a lot to John McKay
Keep up the good work Adrian you are so talented, what a truly awesome tune !!!
Been playing this for a while but it never sounded 100% but thanks to your video it's now 'tidied' up nicely...............
You're amazing, Adrian! You always make such great choices for songs. Now, how's about a Robert Smith lesson - Play for Today?

Very Good mate - super - thanks for your help
Great to find you and this song. You mentioned the backing loop being available, but I don't see it on your website, or a link to it. Is it still available please?
Fantastic. There’s so much bad tab on this song. This one now it.
It's great to see how he actually played,to mention his tone would be good, sounds like chorus pedal mabe some sustain?
Ah, this is friggin' brilliant, mate!!!!
Awesome dude 👍
Thanks.
You eventually changed the bridge on this Jazzmaster to a Mastery?
Plus excellent instructions and contaln
Can i be devils advocate, youre playing this tune almost correct.
