This aligns serendipitously with the existential crisis I'm having right now in a bland hotel room somewhere in Munich thousands of miles from home. Synchronicity? Maybe... but now I have something for my 11 hour bus trip to Amsterdam next Friday! Whoop!
I've been trying to get some of my friends to start a book club with me recently and none of them have been interested. So obviously I'm jumping for joy over this new series! Definitely going to be keeping up, this was a great idea Marko!
I was vastly fascinated watching this video. I enjoy reading but don’t make the time and I know that in order to grow, I must ese mote. This inspired me to pick up those books staring at me . You did great in explaining the book in a concise but intriguing way
great overview! thank you for starting this book club.. & for naming your motorcycle Rosinante. I've loved Don Q since seeing the play in 4th-grade. looking fwd to finally reading Razor's Edge.
I relate to this so, so much. I just turned 22 and I'm taking a semester off of college (also a politics major!), which everyone is so confused about, because I've always done what was expected of me, like making good grades, or following the "life plan" my parents set out. But I've always asked these same questions, and the only answer I get is always something along the lines of "you just have to find whatever job that pays the bills and will offer you security." So I'm at a bit of a crossroads right now, and I decided to move back home for a semester and work to save up for a backpacking trip, because while I don't know what I want to do with my life, I do know that I love to travel, and the "real world" seems awfully depressing.
I am also type of those who is inseaerch of absolute like Larry. And I am glad that I get an occasion to read this classic . It is better not to deny material things but use these as a helpful material for self- understanding and wellbeing rather than using like default pre-programmed in a possessive way . In the search of absolute.
This is so relatable! I am asking myself the same questions, and thinking what path I should take career wise. Thank you for sharing this special book I already started it!
Really looking forward to reading this! Hopefully it'll give me an interesting perspective on life. I think I'll be able to relate as I'm off to uni soon and I've just been doing a lot of thinking about life and where it will lead (albeit I am quite young still)
Hi Marko! Big fan of the VagaBrothers channel and love your travel advice. I'm in a similar spot as some other commenters. I'm 20 yrs old, in college, and trying to figure out what I want out of life. I'm taking my first trip out of the country in a week as a first step in doing the things I love. My roommate and I are visiting Costa Rica. I'm planning on starting this novel and bringing it along for the trip. If it impacted you the way you said it did, I'm looking forward to reading it. -Ben
I am so happy that you are starting a book club! I cannot wait to read this book. I am currently in college and I too struggle with figuring out what career path I should take in life. Hopefully this book will help me find my path. Nevertheless, I am intrigued to read about someone's struggle in a way that I can relate to.
Haven't read that book but it makes me wanna read it :). I think it's cool if you read aloud your favourite passage and/or favourite quote in each book you review !
Hey! I've noticed others introducing themselves so... I'm a 28yo mum from Adelaide, Aust. I have an amateur family travel TH-cam channel (we just got back from Europe) and I work part time. I have started on a quest lately trying to figure out what I want out of life! Happily married, proud mother, I've got my uni degree in HRm, so what is it that will spark my interest and creativity! This first book sounds interesting! You are a very deep and beautiful soul, Marco, and I look forward joining you and others on this book club journey! (Also I'm not naturally a reader, being dyslexic, so this is a new thing for me! Reading? What! Haha!) Cheers!
Just discovered the Vagabrothers channel! As I was watching, I found myself thinking "I wish Marco would do a video about his favorite books." Behold....two hours later I discovered your personal channel and this episode!! Yay! Please keep doing this segment!
Omgosh!!! Thank you! 1) so happy you started the book club! And 2) started with this particular book! I do have the book but it paused since it's a slow read. I am so going to tell my coworker to join in so we have something to talk about :) Heps
Great work, Marko. People constantly make decisions that shape their future and, as many other people here, I am at one of these points in life myself. I'm really looking forward to reading this one! I just hope that I will be able to get it as a paper book here in the Czech Republic. Cheers!
I'm so glad you follow Hannah and the Banging Book Club as well 😄 I'm very excited to read The Razor's Edge, although I might be a bit late to the party as I have to get through my uni midterms this month!
Thanks Marko! I just graduated college and don't know what to do with my life either. Hopefully this book helps and brings me the inspiration, courage and clarity I need. Much love♡
Thanks for the recommendation. Got a few books I need to read so if something strikes me I will add it. Glad to be subscribed here and this is a great book club you are doing. Awesome. Well done.
Came from Ingrid's video. :) And I love books, so I'm looking forward to seeing more from your channel! I haven't read The Razor's Edge, but The Painted Veil is one of my favorite books!
this sounds so interesting! I always find myself thinking about why we are here, where we come from and what this is all for.. some people really don't like to talk about these thoughts. I am 28 years old and sometimes I wonder if we ever do figure it out or just keep on searching our whole lifes..? I am definitely exited to check out the book! :)
I'm really excited for this channel, I see a lot of potential for it. I've always find when asking my self such questions or being introspective it always leads me to the same ending conclusion "there's no one right answer". Wether it be the meaning of life or is there God or why do I exist" and I've always grown up watching mystery shows and movies and reading mystery books because I love the big reveal at the end and in life I feel like no matter how much searching you do the big reveal won't come until the end. Can't wait to read this one and more in the future :)
I love your channel already. Was a very good book review, made me want to read the book. Also I can relate so so much. I made some major life changes...
I love this story. I’ve read the book and watched both movies (I prefer the original). It calls to me. I think it speaks to a lot of people because most of us are lost and trying to figure things out. This is one of my favorite stories. I’m not much of a reader but so glad I read this! I’ve also read a novel called Shantaram, and it was the best thing ever! I now understand why some people love to read! I need something else now, I search for books, podcasts, anything that will inspire or comfort or reach me. Any suggestions?
Loved this! I'm always looking for new books but find I sometimes don't know where to start! This was a great help and it's lovely to see you talk about things you're so passionate about ☺️
The "Guru" mentioned in the book has been modelled on Bhagavan Shree Ramana Maharshi (1978-1950) the Sage of Tiruvvanamalai, Tamil Nadu, India. If the question " Who am I" is troubling you, I suggest you read the book, "The Teachings of Ramana Maharishi" by Arthur Osborne. It is available on Amazon.
I hope i'm not jumping ahead in your book plans here, but please tell me Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance are on the reading list. Also, I'm adding this one to my list now, it sounds great! Thank you! Subscribed!
I’ve read some of the comments on this video, and they all seem to relate to me at this time so I wanted to say thank you for starting this channel. I’m sure it’s hard to keep up with, with your main channel n’ all but, maybe this is what I need right now. Something else to focus on. So thanks! I’m on my way to go see if I can find this book at my local shop in Encinitas. You may know the one I mean. : )
I just want to say I am "old" and I'm still trying to figure out my path in life! Lol. Maybe this will help me with my next phase (a purposeful retirement...)
I'm so glad I found your channel now! I'm currently 23 and about to graduate college in May. I thought I wanted to go to law school right away but I'm currently pursuing the Peace Corps. If that doesn't happen I'm going to try and teach English abroad and I think this is the right decision. (I studied abroad this past fall and I want to travel even more now haha) You could always have these videos at the beginning of the month and a Google Hangout at the end for the in depth conversation.
When I finish my bachelors degree in a month, this will be the first book I'll read. I am supposed to get a job when I'm done but I have no idea what I actually want to do, other than travel and exploring new things, so I think this book will be perfect to read at this point.
So glad you're finally doing this! Excited to dive into this one (as a 29 year old haha ;)) But i can relate with what you're saying about this character Larry and in real life, how it's almost looked down upon to have deep thought. That being light-hearted is seen as a more positive attribute in a human because why would you struggle with thoughts that haven't ever been able to be answered before? Just so interesting :)
Hey Marko! Antoinette, sounds like an awesome woman. She certainly knew you well. About the format for your club, at first I thought a podcast would be the way to go but having watched the whole video I prefer it this way. Why I thought a podcast would be good is that I wouldn't be distracted by the visuals but because you speak so fast I prefer to focus on you and what you're saying for the 10 minutes rather than not see you and be distracted by what's around me.
How have I never read this?! It sounds wonderful. By the way, the Gutenberg project website does not seem to have it any longer. I'm currently living overseas and cannot ship via the Amazon US site, so I will have to order the dreaded kindle version. :)
Never read but interested now, I know the movie with Bill Murray was a bomb. I like deep talk balanced with guilty pleasure, both are essential. Have you read The Unbearable Lightness of Being? Your review of this made m e think of it.
Hey Marko, is there a way of you getting a UK Amazon affiliation too. I'd happily buy the books that way. I've bought this one at a local shop but it's a large chain shop. Just a thought.
Have you thought about making videos that entail meeting new people and learning their stories? Could be kind of cool- seeing life through other people's eyes.
I think you can make a second spoiler video when you get deep into the meat of the book and can really be free in what you say and link that video in the description .
Can anyone give me the link to the free version of this book? I can't order from amazon in my country and I definitely won't find it in local bookshops in here :( I really want to read it.
Excellent review. I'll listen on audible. By the way, America didn't win world war one as you say. The yanks hid around the corner and then nipped past the finish line a few weeks before the war actually ended!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, VERY USEFUL
This aligns serendipitously with the existential crisis I'm having right now in a bland hotel room somewhere in Munich thousands of miles from home. Synchronicity? Maybe... but now I have something for my 11 hour bus trip to Amsterdam next Friday! Whoop!
Looking forward to reading it!
I'm on page 99 at the moment. Reading it right now on this rainy Saturday!
Why am I just seeing your channel in 2019 🤔🤔🤔. So so so happy though
I've been trying to get some of my friends to start a book club with me recently and none of them have been interested. So obviously I'm jumping for joy over this new series! Definitely going to be keeping up, this was a great idea Marko!

thank you, Marko, that's so good and so inspiring. Excited about #MarkoBookClub
From where u are there u are.
There is no meaning, no judgement, no conceptual mind,
Just being is the meaning
We all are everything already

Just finished reading it! Gonna take a couple of days to reflect about it and then I'm going back to this video to compare our opinions

Schnitzel
#MarkoBookClub thanks for this Marko :)
what is the website with free books?
I'm not sure, but I think he said "Gutenburg.org"
Excellent review. I'll listen on audible. By the way, America didn't win world war one as you say. The yanks hid around the corner and then nipped past the finish line a few weeks before the war actually ended!
This is not a book review. This is a guy talking about his personal life. I don't care about what you have done in your life
