Larry’s voice sounds a lot like Tyrone Power. If it’s not Tyrone, the actor was cast well. For some reason I mentally picture Tyrone Power with this character. I first saw the movie in 2014 and cannot disassociate that actor from this character. As an aside I believe Power was and is, a very underrated actor.
Not overacting at all, if you don’t have a pre-fixed idea of the fact that the movie was made in the forties. At any rate one expects that atmosphere when the story begins in 1919…
At his best he was The Best .! But he was capable of producing some very poor stuff. His short stories ( more than the plays ) are the equal of his role model Maupassant . And that's the highest praise one can give...
Larry was lucky to be rid of the painful Annabelle. Great book but the music and overacting (typical of the period) was hard to listen to. And surely Maugham 's part could have been read by an Englishman.
The music fits the period , and the acting has a problem with accents of the players . They do not sound right for the income & social groups portrayed . Remember this was made to help lift morales , of the population after WW2 , when rationing was in full swing still .
One of my most favorite books ever. Thank you so very much.
A splendid movie. Herbert Marshall, Gene Tierney, Tyrone Power, Clifton Webb et al....
What a great story...the very lesson to be learned about life and love.
Thoroughly enjoyed this drama... thank you ❤
A great story. Very dramatic music.
Liked this broadcast very much.
Loved this story. Sad, but a reflection of real life at times.
Brilliant 😍
Great condensed version ❤

This verges on a praxis.

This sounds like some kind of 'spoof' - so overacted with slushy music!
