All the people commenting that her singing is flawed or imperfect. You realize she not just singing. She is acting. She is performing the song from the perspective of someone who has been utterly destroyed by life. She is near death. And her voice captures this feeling perfectly. If she sang it to sound perfect that would not capture the moment. It is the voice of someone singing in utter despair. She is perfect.
Grades denied all my dreams and career paths, my dreams were smashed, and when the teacher recommended giving up, this song was like me. I agree with your opinion, and by the way, I am Korean. She sang this song perfectly.
Ten years later and I still can't hear this version without ugly crying. This moment was my takeaway from the whole film in the theater - even with Les Mis being a favorite read of mine and having seen many college theater productions, Anne brought this song to life in a way I never saw coming. It's just too raw, too in the cut. Amazing film adaptation and personalization.
Saw Les Miz live a couple times and never shed a tear. Saw Anne Hathaway's rendition of this when I watched the movie in the cinema and it destroyed me. I'm talking ugly crying in the middle of the cinema. So powerful.
Susan Boyle's version is beautiful, of course. I'm not even gonna argue with that. But Anne Hathaway's version is heartbreaking in a very beautiful way. If you missed the emotions between the lines, you're a fool. This gives me goosebumps and made me cry. Ugh, I can't even.
Erry Anneliese Well Yes Because Susan Boyle Was Singing Not Acting :0 Shes Not Acting As Fantine Like Anne Or Ruthie(My personal favorite" so comparing those two do not really matter
Erry Anneliese Susan is a talented singer, but Anne is an artist. When we listen to Susan we say, wow, because let's face it, she's neither an attractive or intelligent lady. But Anne has an odd beauty. Exaggerated eyes & mouth. She could get by on her looks alone, as so many do. But her really good but slightly imperfect singing voice brought us, well me, to tears. This is a song of lost hope, lost aspirations, loss of a will to live. Other great singers leave us uplifted when they sing this song, but Anne alone leaves us with a feeling of despair. Most of us live with some regrets, with lost dreams. Tears are a salve to ease our pain of loss.
There was a time when men were kind When their voices were soft And their words inviting There was a time when love was blind And the world was a song And the song was exciting There was a time Then it all went wrong I dreamed a dream in time gone by When hope was high And life worth living I dreamed that love would never die I dreamed that God would be forgiving Then I was young and unafraid And dreams were made and used and wasted There was no ransom to be paid No song unsung, no wine untasted But the tigers come at night With their voices soft as thunder As they tear your hope apart As they turn your dream to shame He slept a summer by my side He filled my days with endless wonder He took my childhood in his stride But he was gone when autumn came And still I dream he'll come to me That we will live the years together But there are dreams that cannot be And there are storms we cannot weather I had a dream my life would be So different from this hell I'm living So different now from what it seemed Now life has killed the dream I dreamed
The way Anne sings it is so heartbreaking, emotional, and beautiful like she's LIVING the despair, heartbreak, misery, fear as she sings. In Susan's version, it sounds like she's OVERCOME her despair and she's older, wiser, and happy. Like a bittersweet vibe of the way her version is. But with Annes.. alexa rodriguez as she’s singing the role a character from Victor Hugo “ Les Misérables” who is Fantine, Cosette ‘s mother, Anne H - has to show through her voice all the pain and sufferings this woman went through Hope you read the book or seen the French version of its film !
I love how she can show such suffering in things like this, and then you look at her sweet and innocent character in films like Ella enchanted, princess diaries, etc. To me that is what makes an actor/actress brilliant- their ability to act a role to such measures that you cannot believe they are not the character itself. Well done Anne Hathaway! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
She looked and sounded like Sinead O'Connor to me. She deserved the oscar her performance here was truly outspoken and heartfelt and the delivery was wonderful.
This woman's emotional delivery of this song was musical perfection. Even if one does not speak English her musical performance of this song moves one to tears and deep feelings of what she is singing about She desired her award. I felt her emotional message simply from her body language She is truly a class actress. Loud Hand Clapping for the energy she put forth through song. Applause, Applause. Awesome singing.
for those of you who didn't know - during revolutions and wars, soldiers used to save money they earned as much as possible, and then combined their savings, in order to buy only one book "les miserables". Books at that time used to be extremely expensive and hard to get. Later, whoever was educated enough to read, used to read it aloud for the rest of the soldiers. this book has changed the history of France and even today widely known globally. now think how one man, Victor Hugo, with a power of writing has done something revolutionary. don't think of it as another hollywood movie, in which catwoman played a role - think of it as something great. and whoever didn't read it yet, do so. educate yourself =)
Dastan Bektayev You are right about the book. During the American Civil War this was a favorite in both North and South. Soldiers would read it out loud around campfires. Confederate soldiers called it "Lee's Miserables' (an inside joke using General Lee's name).
No matter how many times I saw the Broadway show or watched the movie, I am amazed and in tears. The story is timeless, the acting always superb. Anne Hathaway did a great job as Fantine; the entire cast shined. What a story! Yes...life does indeed, kill the dreams we dreamed. ♡
"But there are dreams that cannot be, And there are storms we cannot weather." Every time I hear her sing that part, my eyes fill with tears. This is an amazing rendition, and it deeply touched my heart.
Le Miserables is more than an incredible musical. The story is equally amazing. A hungry and struggling man serves years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread. Hounded by the "warden". Years later, when finally released, and when given the opportunity - he steals again. But this time, a priest shows compassion and gives him the opportunity of a lifetime - to have a new life, free of his past sins. He becomes a good, honest, and decent man, who in turn, shows great compassion for others. Even while being pursued for his former life's sins. Wow! It's so clear to see how a single act of kindness, and forgiveness can have a profound impact on dozens, or hundreds of other people - even for generations to come. Anne Hathaway is brilliant as Fantine, and allows the audience to connect deeply with her struggle.
Well. I've read a lot, and I mean a lot of the comments posted. I've heard Hathaway sing, a little, before. Her voice is sweet and high pitched. I wouldn't call her a 'singer'. She's an actress. In this musical/movie I don't believe the director was looking for a Broadway singer to step in. "Okay, well cut. . . . Bring in Susan Boyle." (Who does the song beautifully) If that is what you think then you missed the rest of the movie. At this moment she was in the pit, she was dying inside, life as she had ever know it was over. Life itself was over. So the song was sung by a totally broken down person, exactly the way anyone in that position would sing it, tears, cracked voice, raw emotion. It IS exactly what the makers of the movie were looking for. It was stunning. She was stunning. I think we could all agree that she can act, but this was amazing, and she deserves whatever award comes her way.
You just can't accept some people do a lot things. Madonna was excellent in Evita and morons can't accept that. It's not her Genre or guild... We feel more comfortable if we keep people in compartments. We forget that some people defy barriers. Instead of being inspired by the excellence that that they project, we rush to argue that it's not natural. She is an actor not a singer. That is moronic. Mariah Carey or Toni Braxton won't come close to the perfection that Anne Delivered for this scene. Oh buy she is no singer. Are you an idiot. Her mother was in Broadway. She has it in her DNA!
I have seen the stage production in London on three occasions and, therefore I wasn’t expecting the film to do it justice. However Anne Hathaway’s rendition of “I dreamed a dream” was simply outstanding. The emotion she evoked was incredible.
I've listened to Ruthie and Lea's version but I have to say, I wasn't moved like I was with Anne Hathaway's rendition. You really felt her pain. Outstanding.
I was moved by Lea Salonga's singing this song. I felt her emotions. In a Broadway show you must get it right the first time. In a movie there are many takes until it is done right, so the two songs can't really be compared fairly.
Lea came to sing a song and that’s what she did. Emotionless and robotic. Her Fantine wasn’t good. And the low note she hits too low on the word “apart” in “as they tear your hope apart” was laughable.
All these years later and I still cry listening to Anne Hathaway sing this song. She really did the most amazing job at it, it's such a visceral and raw song, and she captured that beautifully.
There are actors who learn to sing. There are singers who learn to act. But it is rare to find both qualities in one naturally. Anne Hathaway is one of the few. There may be singers who can sing this song better but I doubt any could put the emotions in she did. This is why you win awards. One of my favorite plays.
SHE DESERVED IT ... My family managed the Met Opera Hose from the early 1900's . I wa srtrained and offered parts on Broadway #AnneHathaway deserved this @@aichaelallaki3286
I am an attorney and I like Anne Hathaway more as she's an attorney turned actor. While watching this the first time, I am like... oh, my god, isn't this Oscar winning performance, and so glad to know she did.
Anne's proved to be brilliant, an excellent actress to show exactly the emotions, that pain, that sadness, that heartbreaking, that... Dispair... She is brilliant! Bravo Anne! One of the greatest actresses of nowadays! I am undoubtedly a big fan!
It's incredible how the words and music separately are amazing in itself but when meshed together it creates an otherworldly fusion of majestic heartwrenching beauty.
When I listen to Anne Hathaway sing this, I can hear what I’d normally consider as flaws in singing. Yet I’ve never been more moved listening to someone sing and tears are flowing down my face.
One can experience this also when listening to Dame Judi Dench sing "Send in the Clowns" featured in the South Bank Show 1995. Not beautifully sung but stunningly performed!
under 5 minutes is the final product. If I'm not mistaken, I heard that Anne Hatthaway had to record it multiple times for hours, until the director found this version to be the most touching.
Bellatrix Halliwell Not the role as a whole...this song is under 5 minutes and the raw power and emotion in this portion alone was well worthy of an Oscar! Absolutely adore Anne Hathaway.
Her performance and majestic interpretation as both singer and actress is beyond words, she managed to be true to the character and still sound utterly real singing out the pain she suffered.
The actor who play Eponine is from the Broadway play from that part. She was that amazing they wanted her in the film. She also played Chicago on broadway.
+winehousedrunk Danke.....that was so nice to say... Finally feel something... and i love to sing this song now....almost everyday...i am sick and i am miserable..
+winehousedrunk Danke.....that was so nice to say... Finally feel something... and i love to sing this song now....almost everyday...i am sick and i am miserable..
What Anne Hathaway accomplished is an amazing fusion of acting and singing rarely accomplished on film. Her rivals in this are women like Jennifer Holiday, Barbra Streisand, Lady Gaga and Judy Garland. True craftsmanship in fim performance. Well earned!
Susan Boyle sang a song. Anne Hathaway told a story. Susan Boyle used a song to show off her voice. Anne Hathaway used expression and emotion and used a song to make us understand what she was feeling. You can't compare the two.
I always loved this song, as an ugly/beautiful meditation on existentialism. But it never made me sob like a sap until I saw THIS VERSION. Anne kills it here. Makes me cry every time.
This story perfectly embodies humanity's infinite capacity for cruelty when they have the smallest bit of power, especially if they have all the power.
Nao existem palavras para descrever a intensidade e a grandeza da apresentacao dela. simplismente nao consigo parar de ver e ouvir e uma interpletacao unica.
This song broke my heart. It is a thing of beauty by Anne Hathaway that cannot be matched by her artistic and beautiful performance. To be able to encapsulate the raw emotion of struggle and womanhood transcends the boundaries of convention. It is beautiful.
It is 2020, and I'm seeing and hearing this for the first time right now. It is gut-wrenching. I didn't think I needed to see yet another version of Les Misérables. I was wrong.
My younger brother played the role of Gavroche on Broadway and in the travelling company of Les Mis for almost 5 years, to say I'm unfamiliar with the show would not be an understatement but a flat out lie. There are some things I don't like about the movie, but Anne Hathaway's performance of I Dreamed A Dream is not one of them. This is a song I heard sung, live, at least twice a day for years and grew indifferent to. Yet her take on it will leave me in a sobbing mess every single time I hear it .Bravo Anne, bravo..
Broadway goes for beautiful singing. She went for raw emotion, and this song 100% NEEDS that! It is absolutely heartbreaking. I never fully understood this song until her version. I knew what it was about....I just didn't GET IT.
This was the thing that made me fall in love with Anne Hathaway. I knew she was uber-talented, but...jeez. I have seen very few things as beautiful as this performance...and she was angelic here. Turns out, after all these years, I believe in angels.
The song and her emotions always shake my feeling. Or maybe it's because every time i listen this song i often thinking about someone. No matter what when i listen her song i can't help myself crying.
"[She] slept a summer by my side, [She] filled my days with endless wonder. [I] took [her] childhood in [my] stride, But [she] was gone when autumn came. And still I dream [she'll] come to me, That we will live the years together. But there are dreams that cannot be, And there are storms we cannot weather."
if you took her childhood you should have left not her.' i took her childhood in my stride but i was gone when summer came. and in my dreams she is with me, and we will live the years together. but there are dreams that cannot be and there are storms we cannot weather.'
holyhellitsautumn When you repost these lyrics on your own channel / page, feel free to reword them however you may choose; I'll respect your chosen wording rather than incorrectly assume you don't know better.
My highest compliments on this video. It must have taken quite a bit of time to edit, but, speaking as an audience member, it was well worth it. Thanks.
I love this performance. I also don't give a damn for all those who say Anne Hathaway is an actress, not a singer. She convinced me this song was real, on both counts. Susan Boyle convinced me that God gives vocal majesty to whom He deems worthy, and Susan is eminently worthy, as is Anne. They both fooled the "wiser" world, didn't they?
I had tears down my face watching Anne Hathaway's version in the cinema. They should play this at my funeral because it may as well be my life's theme song
This song is dedicated to everyone who lost a loved one. God bless. "I'm calling out your name tonight" by Richie Levoi th-cam.com/video/JSbGGiSe3S8/w-d-xo.html
This song perfectly fits my mood these days. I'm 78, formerly a "peace, love & understanding" sweet ol' hippified granny type. Marched for everything under the sun back in the '60s & '70s. Thought we had won, but there is no "winning". There is only two steps forward, one step back, two steps forward ... and a century back. I weep for the future my kids, and my grandkids will have to endure ... if they can.
This is the best lyric video on TH-cam! The imagery from the film meshes perfectly with the words at the perfect time. & it perfectly encapsulates the film. I was in tears at the end. Job well done!
This is what arduous preparation, powerful acting, fine direction and excellent technical and production values can achieve. This is why cinema at its best is a true art form.
my mom, who was a professional vocalist and went to the best fine arts schools and top college in korea said that anne hathaway's performance was one of the best, most vocally perfect, and full of emotion performances she's heard on a movie (next to samantha barks' of course)
Heartbreaking wonder. Miss Hathaway has always been a fun, talented, cute, bubbly actress...but this sets her apart....bringing an emotional upwelling, a baring of one's soul...well done Miss hathaway! I am not crying, it is raining on my face...thank you for creating a timeless moment that we will always remember....
Anne Hathaway no matter what role she is playing she always gives it a hundred and 10%. But this one, I think she sang the song Like It Was Meant To Be Sung. Powerful, palpitating, breathtaking. 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💔
How is it not singing? It's not even bad singing. It's really good, it's just that she prioritized portraying the emotions over making the song sound "beautiful" which is what's called for in musical theater/film. There are more "beautiful" versions available, so they prioritized making the movie consistent and and as believable and emotional as possible.
it is beautiful and emotional and what her director wanted from this scene. A movie is much different than a stage production where this song gets belted out to the audience. I think for this version this song was beautifully done, nuanced and full of pain.
I chose to sing this for my HS solo choir performance. Everyone thinks I chose it because I like the song and it's one of my best vocally. In reality it was also because it's a venting process for me. Since I was about four years old, I used to dream about being a lead in the town's shows. In our middle school I got one minor role (I was the only one who wanted the part) and another extra role with three lines. In eight grade they canceled the show I was in (finally had a supporting). The only roles I got throughout my high school were characters who only spoke a few lines in one scene. I was told by multiple people that I commanded the scenes I was in better than the leads and that I was the most dedicated. I'm in senior year now and the same show I begged the director to do for years (Addams family) she's doing for the middle school. We're doing a show I hate this year, my final year. So when I perform this, I'll be sure to look right at the director so she gets the message.
First of all, let me congratulate you on your dedication, and I'm sure it was a let-down when you really wanted to perform in another musical, but even if you hate the one you were cast in, give it your best shot. I don't imagine that actor Benedict Cumberbatch was too happy about being cast as Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream in his first Shakespearean role, but he was resolved that if he was going to be cast as queen of the fairies, then he'd be the best damn queen of the fairies they'd ever seen, and now he is one of the most sought after actors in the world. One of supermodel Cindy Crawford's first modelling assignments was modelling a blue satin jumpsuit that she thought was the most hideous piece of clothing ever, but she said that if she had to model a blue satin jumpsuit she was going to rock that jumpsuit like it was haute couture, and she also ended up a great success. On a more blunt note, if you are going to be a professional singer or actor, you will not always have the privilege of appearing in productions that you like. Unless you are an Oscar winner (and not always even then) you are going to have to do roles that you dislike, hate, or downright loathe, to pay the bills. Even if you hate the show you're in, get up on that stage and knock that role out of the park. There's also a saying that God never closes a door without opening a window, so who knows; if you become a successful singer one day you might even get the chance to do the role you so badly wanted, this time in a bigger and better production. Best of luck with your singing career.
I can not ever listen to this and not end up with the tears streaming my face. Tonight is no different, its kind of apt for the day thats in it. Life has killed the dream...
There was a time when men were kind, When thier voices were soft, And thier words inviting, There was a time when love was blind, And the world was a song, There was a time, Then it all went wrong I dreamed a dream in time gone by, When hope was high, And life worth living, I dreamed that love would never die, I dreamed that god would be forgiving, Then I was young and unafraid, And dreams were made and used and wasted, There was no ransom to be paid, No song unsung, no wine untasted, But the tigers come at night, With their voice soft as thunder, As they tear your hope apart, As they turn your dreams to shame, He slept this summe by my side, He filled my days with endless wonder, He took my childhood in his stride, But he was gone when atumn came, And still I dream he'll come to me, That we will live the years togehter, But there were dreams that cannot be, And there are storms we can not weather, I had a dream my life would be, So different from the life om living, So differnt now from where it seemed, Now life has killed the dream I dreamed!
By Sweer Lucifera, I NEED to watch this film again stat! It's true, there were shaky vocal parts, but those that were vitually flawles more than made up for them. And Anne Hathaway. who was in the film for no more than 30 of it's minutes of running time, took home the Academy Award for her role, and if you ask me, she could have earned that Oscar in the five minutes she spent perfoming this one song. I will watch it again very soon, perhaps even before the sun rises five hours from now.
Probably not the best singing version BUT the only version I have ever watched and listened to where I cried and instantaneously fell in love with the artist. My god what a talent BRAVO!
I have never seen either the stage play or the movie but have heard this song a 1000 times over. Having watched this and hearing Anne sing it has given me a whole new perspective to the song. I never knew she could sing so well.
I made a video once with scenes that match lyrics and feelings. It took forever. I can't imagine the effort you took to make this, and it's amazing! I can feel every scene you picked with the lyrics you choose for each part. *very* inspirational and nicely done :D.
Absolutely LOVE the editing you did on this piece. I already love the rendition by Anne, which (in my opinion) shows so much more misery and emotion than the original Broadway pieces, but you elevated this to an entirely new level by including the scenes from the movie in such a fantastic way and even found an artistic way to incorporate the lyrics. Your saturation and switching to monochrome and use of filters is impressive.
I have never seen the movie or play but my God, this scene made me cry. Now I want to see the movie to find out what possibly could have happened to net this absolute desolation and heartache. Wow. The depth of feeling...this is the power of acting.

My niece Elizabeth was auditioning for Berkeley School of Music. She had to sing one song as a soprano and one in alto. She spent a month deciding between this and Think of Me from Phantom of the Opera. Her soprano choice was Never Enough from The Greatest Showman. Apparently she was nervous for very little because she was offered a full ride scholarship. Yes I am one proud auntie.
This isn't the pretty, and powerfully "nice" rendition of Susan Boyle, this is the "real" version - sung the way it was meant to be sung, full of pain and raw passion. It isn't meant to be pretty. I get goosebumps just listening to this.
Up until now, 'Les Misérables' is my favorite movie in Hollywood, 'Les Misérables' is my favorite novel among all novels, and 'Les Misérables' is my favorite show among all theatre shows. It showed me much about the idea of the Gospel (The story of redemption and salvation), the difference of the law and of mercy (Justice vs. Mercy), and the real truth about our society. No other story has been as inspiring as this the most.
This song and this performance is perfect. If anyone has hit a low point in their life, it shadows that feeling of hopelessness and despair perfectly. How can something so ugly be so beautiful?
it's so damn difficult to cry and hit the right notes at the same time but she nailed it. So proud she got an oscar bc that was so perfect... I'm still crying after all these times I've watched the scene
All the people commenting that her singing is flawed or imperfect. You realize she not just singing. She is acting. If she sang it to sound perfect that would not capture the moment. It is the voice of someone singing in utter despair.
She is perfect.
she is also singing about the other characters who also 'dreamed' the best musical I have ever seen
i agree 100%. for that scene, her singing is flawless and perfect and so emotional...
Sounds great to me.
Grades denied all my dreams and career paths, my dreams were smashed, and when the teacher recommended giving up, this song was like me. I agree with your opinion, and by the way, I am Korean. She sang this song perfectly.
Bravo, you could not have explained this distinction more perfectly!

Momiroピーチ Yes, yes, that was my point actually. Roll down the comments and see people saying Susan's version is better and comparing this and that. :)
Jacksfilms version is the best lol
Erry Anneliese Susan is a talented singer, but Anne is an artist. When we listen to Susan we say, wow, because let's face it, she's neither an attractive or intelligent lady.

Thanks you!
Wow
The way Anne sings it is so heartbreaking, emotional, and beautiful like she's LIVING the despair, heartbreak, misery, fear as she sings. In Susan's version, it sounds like she's OVERCOME her despair and she's older, wiser, and happy. Like a bittersweet vibe of the way her version is. But with Annes.. It's like you're living and listening to the despair and emotion as she's LIVING it at the moment. Hopefully people understand what i'm trying to say.
Just so brilliant can watch and listen for ever..so sad .
Well said. I understood what you meant & feel the same way. All the despair, heartache, pain...in her voice.
I fully understand.
I understand what u r saying, alexa rodriguez. I agree 100%. I admire your presentation.
alexa rodriguez as she’s singing the role a character from Victor Hugo “ Les Misérables” who is Fantine, Cosette ‘s mother, Anne H - has to show through her voice all the pain and sufferings this woman went through Hope you read the book or seen the French version of its film !
Like her or not. Her performance in this was as heartbreaking as life ever needs to be.
Duke Mantee agreed
If your not moved by this song,............amazingly I never would have thought of her for this part, but damn she is good.
She definitely gave it her all. Chilling performance. She brought the audience to the exact place where they needed to be.
I am extremely puzzled over how people could possibly not like Anne Hathaway. She always has been and I expect always will be an amazing charm.
Dastan Bektayev was this true sorry for asking. I have the book but confused somewhat.
you must be fun at parties.
Super Cam Guyy ha ha ha, so true=)
Dastan Bektayev I don't think of her as Catwoman.
Dastan Bektayev You are right about the book. During the American Civil War this was a favorite in both North and South. Soldiers would read it out loud around campfires. Confederate soldiers called it "Lee's Miserables' (an inside joke using General Lee's name).
"he took my childhood in his stride" was very well sung, i like how she gives it power...
she grunts the "he took my childhood" lyrics.right?
For a scene, it’s a beautiful line: ripe with emotion. However, musically, it doesn’t sound great.
I'm not crying, I just have a passion of cutting onions close to my eyes
+cupkate I see the phandom EVERYWHERE I S2G!!:D
BTW I made a song about Dan and Phil please check it out? It's iin my channel!!:D
same 😞😢
Yes, yes me too.
+cupkate i'm not crying, it's just been raining... on my face.
+cupkate We're not crying, we just evolved to sweat through our eyes
Yep

You just can't accept some people do a lot things. Madonna was excellent in Evita and morons can't accept that. It's not her Genre or guild... We feel more comfortable if we keep people in compartments. We forget that some people defy barriers. Instead of being inspired by the excellence that that they project, we rush to argue that it's not natural. She is an actor not a singer. That is moronic. Mariah Carey or Toni Braxton won't come close to the perfection that Anne Delivered for this scene. Oh buy she is no singer. Are you an idiot. Her mother was in Broadway. She has it in her DNA!
@Dom Susan is reality BS. She has zero talent and she should be knitting sweaters in Peru or baking pastries in Cambodia. Anything but singing.
@@eduardochavacano Don't be such a moron. Of course she can sing well and shlould not say such stupid things about her.
My God, my God, she is amazing. Ripped my heart out, I could feel her pain and despair. Brovo.
I have seen the stage production in London on three occasions and, therefore I wasn’t expecting the film to do it justice. However Anne Hathaway’s rendition of “I dreamed a dream” was simply outstanding. The emotion she evoked was incredible.
一場從未發生卻又一直真實發生的故事..........
Have mercy on us. A story that never actually happened is always happening every day in the world.
The best song of the movie... Timeless... Flawlessly performed and encompass the emotions of the human soul....Beautiful performance....
Tear after tear...
Time after time...
It's like her voice split the sky in two and let the face of God shine through...
There are actors who learn to sing. There are singers who learn to act. But it is rare to find both qualities in one naturally. Anne Hathaway is one of the few. There may be singers who can sing this song better but I doubt any could put the emotions in she did. This is why you win awards. One of my favorite plays.
The voices soft as thunder line is my favorite
Me and my bff love that part (Shes the blurry one)
awesome
Mine is "there are storms we cannot weather"
mine is the last line. "now life has killed the dream i dreamed"
mine is: as they turn your dreams to shame 😍😭
I'm so happy she won an oscar for this
me too 😊
SHE DESERVED IT ... My family managed the Met Opera Hose from the early 1900's . I wa srtrained and offered parts on Broadway #AnneHathaway deserved this @@aichaelallaki3286
Me too
I am as well but now we don't see her in a lot of stuff anymore
I am an attorney and I like Anne Hathaway more as she's an attorney turned actor. While watching this the first time, I am like... oh, my god, isn't this Oscar winning performance, and so glad to know she did.
Anne's proved to be brilliant, an excellent actress to show exactly the emotions, that pain, that sadness, that heartbreaking, that... Dispair... She is brilliant! Bravo Anne! One of the greatest actresses of nowadays! I am undoubtedly a big fan!
It's incredible how the words and music separately are amazing in itself but when meshed together it creates an otherworldly fusion of majestic heartwrenching beauty.
don't mind me, just a grown man
with really sweaty eyeballs
Yes, anyone that does not get emotional listening to this is a coldhearted beast.

Benji Todtenhagen Funny, me too. Must be something going around, seasonal like :-)
You are not alone bud :')
Shut up Cowel
and that ladies and gentlemen is how you win an Oscar in under 5 minutes.
#truth
She deserved that Oscar! She did an amazing job, and her role wasn't just of five minutes, it was a lot more
under 5 minutes is the final product. If I'm not mistaken, I heard that Anne Hatthaway had to record it multiple times for hours, until the director found this version to be the most touching.
She famously did it in one cut.
Bellatrix Halliwell Not the role as a whole...this song is under 5 minutes and the raw power and emotion in this portion alone was well worthy of an Oscar! Absolutely adore Anne Hathaway.
What a masterpiece theatrical version. Melody and raw emotions into one--- beautifully done. Five Stars for Anne Hathaway.
Her performance and majestic interpretation as both singer and actress is beyond words, she managed to be true to the character and still sound utterly real singing out the pain she suffered.
Amazing. I wondered why they used Hollywood Actors and not Broadway singers for this film. Now I know.
The actor who play Eponine is from the Broadway play from that part. She was that amazing they wanted her in the film. She also played Chicago on broadway.
"And there are dreams that cannot be, and there are storms we cannot weather"
She lives through every word of the song. The best performance. Loving heart speaks stronger than a sweetest voice.
Not sure what people are complaining about...I think this version is exceptional. It's the most emotional.
i am empty but this makes me cry, so thanks, i feel something now, i can see my own life here.
+LuluDanaLinemann that dream i dreamed is killed....well some peoples has even home for real life, do i have my own home anymore? no, ei, nein.

You just did...
😂
I always loved this song, as an ugly/beautiful meditation on existentialism.
But it never made me sob like a sap until I saw THIS VERSION.
Anne kills it here. Makes me cry every time.
Joel Hassig Excellent video, btw. Great mash-up.
Joel Hassig Oh yah - and the end shot of movie Cozette/Broadway Cozette... kills me. Great edit.
This story perfectly embodies humanity's infinite capacity for cruelty when they have the smallest bit of power, especially if they have all the power.
Fucking sobbing cause this one of the most beautiful heartbreaking thing I've ever seen
me too
Small wonder that she won the Acadamy Award. This acting/singing was awesome. Bravo Anne Hathaway.
even smaller wonder that her Oscar clip was a snippet of her singing this...and I cried in the theatre as she sang.

Nao existem palavras para descrever a intensidade e a grandeza da apresentacao dela.
simplismente nao consigo parar de ver e ouvir e uma interpletacao unica.
I had a dream my life would be, so different from this hell i'm living.
She really sang this. Beautiful..amazing all the audio was filmed live.
This is a heartbreaking song and emotion fantine.
+Dan Notz hope all its ok now.
"[She] slept a summer by my side,
[She] filled my days with endless wonder.
[I] took [her] childhood in [my] stride,
But [she] was gone when autumn came.
And still I dream [she'll] come to me,
That we will live the years together.
But there are dreams that cannot be,
And there are storms we cannot weather."
You and me both, man.
why the brackets?
Ismael Cousillas The brackets are where I changed from the original lyrics to my own words.
if you took her childhood you should have left not her.' i took her childhood in my stride but i was gone when summer came. and in my dreams she is with me, and we will live the years together. but there are dreams that cannot be and there are storms we cannot weather.'
holyhellitsautumn When you repost these lyrics on your own channel / page, feel free to reword them however you may choose; I'll respect your chosen wording rather than incorrectly assume you don't know better.
My highest compliments on this video. It must have taken quite a bit of time to edit, but, speaking as an audience member, it was well worth it. Thanks.
I come back to watch this over and over. Such a perfect rendition.
..".I had a dream my life would be so different from the hell I'm living" - I can never stop crying in this moment, very touching...
Wow! I came to listen to a good song only to be heart broken by this interpretation. As Cat Tay said, This is how you win an Oscar in under 5 minutes.
Truly one of the most deeply heart-wrenching songs, conveyed by Ms Hathaway, to date.
She`s so talented and beautiful! one of our most under rated actresses. And no, I`m not crying, its dusty in here...
Anne Hathaway won an oscar for this role, she deserve it
Heartbreaking wonder.
This is beautiful, so true to how a person acts in despair, with emotion and feeling.
Best acting and singing performance by any actress ever in my book! Absolutely amazing- beautiful but sad all at the same time.
I didn't know she could sing like that.
what singing?
***** Let's say theatrical-style singing.
Georgia Andrea Let's omit the last word and it's ok :D
ChooseYour Poison Thank you.
I can not ever listen to this and not end up with the tears streaming my face. Tonight is no different, its kind of apt for the day thats in it. Life has killed the dream...
God! When I heard this I was so moved, and felt so much for her, the sacrifice that she gave for her daughter. How can you not feel that?
This is the most beautiful lyrics video I have seen
Why are there so many dislikes of this amazing song? I loved this version!!
What an ICONIC lyric video for a timeless song!!Anne's performance is haunting!Incredible!! 👏👏👏
There was a time when men were kind,
When thier voices were soft,
And thier words inviting,
There was a time when love was blind,
And the world was a song,
There was a time,
Then it all went wrong
I dreamed a dream in time gone by,
When hope was high,
And life worth living,
I dreamed that love would never die,
I dreamed that god would be forgiving,
Then I was young and unafraid,
And dreams were made and used and wasted,
There was no ransom to be paid,
No song unsung, no wine untasted,
But the tigers come at night,
With their voice soft as thunder,
As they tear your hope apart,
As they turn your dreams to shame,
He slept this summe by my side,
He filled my days with endless wonder,
He took my childhood in his stride,
But he was gone when atumn came,
And still I dream he'll come to me,
That we will live the years togehter,
But there were dreams that cannot be,
And there are storms we can not weather,
I had a dream my life would be,
So different from the life om living,
So differnt now from where it seemed,
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed!
I just wished the colors weren't edited. The original colors of the film is too beautiful to edit.
'And still, I dream he'll come to me. That we will live the years together'
Again. I'm crying again.

If you can watch this and not have your eyes well up, you are dead inside. This is achingly beautiful. Hathaway brought everything here.

I love this song, especially with the voice of Anne Hathaway, demonstrating so much emotion.
This isn't the pretty, and powerfully "nice" rendition of Susan Boyle, this is the "real" version - sung the way it was meant to be sung, full of pain and raw passion. It isn't meant to be pretty. I get goosebumps just listening to this.
But from SB it was the reverse story. Nobody liked her, but everybody was astonished after her performance.

So different now from what it seemed

This song and this performance is perfect. If anyone has hit a low point in their life, it shadows that feeling of hopelessness and despair perfectly. How can something so ugly be so beautiful?
it's so damn difficult to cry and hit the right notes at the same time but she nailed it. So proud she got an oscar bc that was so perfect... I'm still crying after all these times I've watched the scene
Excuse you that was the most beautiful editing I've ever seen in my life
