The idea of using muted versions while doing monochromatic studies is a game changer! That'll help me not get as bored as quickly. I learn so much from you, thank you for existing! You've really helped flame a love of watercolor in me. Excited for the next 2!
You are very smart. This clock palette makes so much sense. I ordered one after seeing your fist video. Mine is a 70’s retro with nice gold finishing. ( based on price and function..not looks) ❤
This series is such a gem! Also, small details like the length of arrows to signify the mixing pair and intensity are greatly appreciated! Quin violet looks like it has a ton of tonal range by itself and mixed with its complementary, you get just an array of options. Triads are the ones I am curious about the most, can't wait ^_^
You videos on color theory are soooo helpful. Your videos are the only ones that really explain how to work with a color wheel to create the colors. I never understood until now!
Thank you so much for all of time and effort (and mountains of paper) it takes to make these and sharing your knowledge! I read alot but am a visual learner for sure and appreciate this series so much for seeing it in practice and it's so much more informative than 'take a reddish violet and a yellowy green' on a page with an image and how very different things can turn out practicing with your own collection of colours.
Oto, once again, thank you so very much for this hard work. This is an important subject matter for me at this phase of my art journey. You are a thoughtful and thorough teacher. Many thanks! 🎨🖌
AMAZING! Thank you for this - I have the Stephen Quiller book and colour wheel but didn’t realize you can use it as you have shown here (haven’t finished reading it). The lights are now on! 🤗
thanks so much for teaching us about color. I finally understand how this all works, for the most part anyway. I don't care to use these particular mixes at this point since it is filled with the phthalo colors. Being a watercolor newbie I do better using non staining or lightly staining colors so I can more easily wash away my mistakes, plus I make a stubborn mess of my palette, my hands, pretty much any surface when I have the very staining phthalos in there but I do understand that it is due to my own reckless style.
I think I've just discovered I like a complementary color scheme a lot better with their neutral color between them. D, E, and F are especially pretty! I'm not sure I've thought much about monochrome in the sense of the range with its neutralizing color instead of just tonal values, so that is a really intriguing approach for me to try as well. Thanks, this was great!
Very good episode Dr. Kano! I never knew that part of a monochromatic color scheme was also the color going to neutral. Very interesting. My favorite combos are D and E. I might have to do the circles exercise with those. They call to me!
I love the colours can’t pick out which are my favourite well, they are all awesome I was working a lot with doing chroma intense as a value rather than neutralizing it at all with its complimentary, I have not perfected it before {it is very fluorescent feel} but moved on to simply a dark shade to light shade using its complimentary then just the neutral shades of the monotone, but to add that complimentary to a brighter shade or high value monotone scrrrrreeeeews up the building and actual shades!
Thank you Oto! My favorite pair was the D pair. I am really into mid to warm reds and yellows right now, probably because it's been so cold here lately.
Thank you so much for the series. I've almost finished thw course. So much info in clear, inspiring and geek friendly format. I've thought about setting a new palette using tube paints and plastic folding palette. Will the colors in the top cover stay in place properly when the box is closed? I will probably get Schmincke and Holbein paints after your foot steps. Maybe even try some Daniel Smith! Greetings from Finland, Another computer scientist 🤓
Great job, as always. I’ve got color theory down, but it took me 2 1/2 years to figure it out on my own. If I had this video when I first started painting it would have been tremendously helpful! Having the visuals accompanied with theory really brings it all together in an easy to learn format. 👍🏼
These are all amazing videos! Thanks for creating! One question - in a monochromatic scheme, how would you darken a color (say, something in your a-d wells, or (f)), without neutralizing it via the complementary color? Thank you!

I can understand, just playing with different values of the same hue is not as interesting. Aw you are so kind JP!

Aw thank you Box a Paint, that is exactly what I was hoping for :)
Thanks again Oto, another great video. Lots of great info. You are a natural teacher
Aw thank you so much Steph, I really appreciate your kind words.
That was really interesting, I hadn't seen this monochromatic-with-neutral thing before :O
So glad I could bring something new to you Eve :D

Oh my my...I'm so glad I found your page. You make color theory come ALIVE.
The violet/may green combo is one I am going to try. Thank you for your clear and visual explanation!
AMAZING! Thank you for this - I have the Stephen Quiller book and colour wheel but didn’t realize you can use it as you have shown here (haven’t finished reading it). The lights are now on! 🤗
So interesting! I like the B and (B) colour scheme with the neutrals in between.

Gosh yes, phthalos are so highly staining!
Your favourite tetrad which is EF(E)(F) was my favourite of all color schemes.
Keep up the good work.
Well done!! Best video on this topic I've seen.

So glad you got to find out what color schemes you like Boss Goose :D
The arrow on your palette really helped. :)

wooo I hope you enjoy the circles exercise! If you want a PDF of the circles, just let me know.
Great presentation and useful info. Thank you!
Thank you Caroline, glad you liked it :)

Wow, so interesting. I never thought monochromatic painting could be so 'colourful' xD Thank you!
Very interesting the neutralization of the monos...what a great info. Never occurred me to see it in such way.
I hope you have fun playing around with the concept Val!
I was looking for some one to teach this ,,,and I found ur channel

You are so welcome Kathee, thank you for watching!
Thank you Oto! My favorite pair was the D pair. I am really into mid to warm reds and yellows right now, probably because it's been so cold here lately.

Excellent! Thank you ❤️
E and F for complementary

Great job as usual! Thank you.
Aw thank you Linda!
Brilliant!🎨
Thanks Otto. That was a lot of work. I like B, E, F. But I tend to be a bit odd. Lol.Thanks 💙
Great choices Annette!
@@OtoKano Thank you so much Oto for this series. I used this lesson to do Lindsay's cardinal today in watercolor instead of pastel. Thanks so much.
These are all amazing videos! Thanks for creating! One question - in a monochromatic scheme, how would you darken a color (say, something in your a-d wells, or (f)), without neutralizing it via the complementary color? Thank you!
you could do a monochromatic study where you just use one color, by changing how much water you put with your paint.
Mam red and black colour mixed than which colour mam pls reply mam
Yellow orange and blue violet my favourite at moment but they change periodically.
Anukriti, 6
Complementary colors E and (E) remind me of the 80's and F (F) early 90's
