I have 1gig fiber also however I don’t think it’s really necessary, or even better, unless you have multiple devices streaming 4k content. Or regularly downloading large files. Otherwise for gaming it’s the latency that’s really important. You can game just fine on even a 10 mbs connection if the latency is low. If you are using only 1 tv usually for streaming and live alone or maybe 2 people having 1 gig is just a waste of money.
Hey David, Yes that's correct, everyone's situation is different including their home network setup which will have different results. But this video in particular is not your average home network, way beyond what your running. The I GIG internet connection was way over due and was WELL WORTH the investment for me. Appreciate your feedback.
@@AWordFromMrJones Also I think a lot of folks don’t realize they are not gonna get one gig speed on a wireless network. Unless you have a top end expensive network maybe. I have WiFi6 router and I get around 400Mbps on my M1 Mac Mini and about the same on my iPhone 12. The Apple TV I do have plugged directly into the router because of where it is. However I can’t tell a difference from when I used to use it wirelessly. I have AT&T fiber optic into the house with the terminal on the wall.
@@AWordFromMrJones no it’s WAY worse because a gigabit is 1000mbps, which you showed was for around $80. In Australia, $80 will get you only 50mbps. If you want 1 gigabit in Australia, the minimum it will cost you is $150 from a small ISP. Our internet sucks. 😤
What's crazy to me is that they going to give you gigabit without a new router is wild to me because they had gave me the new gigabit router they had available
Feel the reason you experience better internet speed is because your ping speed changed. before it was coax cables, pings over coax is slow, ping over ethernet is faster.
Hey brother I know this is an old video but did you notice a change in your latency whatsoever with this setup ? I have no problems with my upload/download on my Xbox but I’ve noticed my latency is high… wondering if the Verizon 1gig helped that also ?
@@raymondgomez9808 If Verizon has fiber in your area, a gigabit connection would be available for your home. What are you running at home regarding electronics? If you’re gaming plus streaming and notice a delay of connection, then I would suggest contacting Verizon to see what type of “speed” connection plan to enroll. Often I see when you’re gaming plus streaming a high quality livestream, there could be delays depending on the network connection and computer hardware.
Very helpful video. Thank you. I am currently at 100mb using Verizon Quantum router (such as yourself) connected via coax. My fios TV is also connected via coax. Running wireless to all other devices (laptop, desktop, tablet, phones, etc). If going to 1gb, besides the router changing from coax to cat6, would the Fios Tv cable box also need to use cat6 or would I continue to use coax from the Verizon ONT box to the cable box and only use cat6 for the router or would i now use cat6 for both? Thank you.
Having fiber period is worth it. why? SPEEDS- obviously having symmetrical speeds cuts down majorly on any kind of buffering period. LATENCY- fiber almost always has lower latency period, and followed by that JITTER lol, jitter is the variation in ping, and with fiber is almost always lower to non existent. Of course, you may see ping variation based on where you connect to depending on where your traffic is routing to, but usually thats over a fiber backbone anyways, so having fiber right off the bat instantly makes that connection stability much much better. is fiber worth it? hell. yes.
I am paying $65 a month for suppose to be gig speed, but nevee clocked higher than 550mbs on a wired connection (cable) There is a fiber company here now, they charge $90 for gig speed. Is it worth the cost difference to performance
It's a HUGE difference if your into LIVE streaming your content, the faster upload speed, the better LIVE video quality for your viewers. But if your just watching movies and playing videos games to yourself, then 550 MBPS is a good connection to stick with.
No. You won’t know the difference unless using multiple streaming devices or frequently downloading large file. That’s the only reason for more bandwidth. You can stream Netflix at 4k and have someone else playing an online game no problem with only 200-300 mbs
