    New viewer here!
    I really like this tank. It does the heart good to see someone make a video of an actual cichlid colony as opposed to the usual, “My mbunas, which live in harems and are super territorial, are being aggressive in my over stocked, male only tank for some reason.” 😅Videos
    But seriously, do consider more colonies if you want it already.

      Thanks for your comment, I moved and had to shut this tank down a while back but I am considering a similar colony setup in the future! 👍

    I can tell you've been holding onto this video! Haha That's a beautiful colony and a great end to your Brichardi project! Been trying to do the same, for 7 months, with Multifasciatus but I started with 7 juveniles and 6 ended up being males so it's been a slooow process to even get the 3 fry I've got now. Bit disappointing but I'm keeping at it for now!

      Thanks! It was a lot of fun keeping and breeding brichardi! Tanganyikan fish are very underrated in the fishkeeping hobby!
      I can imagine that comes with some complications! Have you thought about trying to separate one male with the female in their own tank, that way they will be disturbed less. Just a thought! Glad to hear they are breeding! Good luck with it! 👍

      @@alasdairaquatics I definitely does. 😤 Thankfully the other males never really bother them. Maybe it's just the social nature of Multis? I did segregate them naturally with hardscape and by giving them a bigger territory (more shells) and it worked but they only spawn a few at a time (3, lost one) and they didn't breed again until the fry were old enough to 'move out' of the parents shells. Which, as it turns out, is about 4 months even with overfeeding. I'd heard they take longer to mature but I wasn't expecting it to be so slow.

      Sounds like you have it under control! I think the colony nature of certain Tanganyikan fish is amazing! Multis can be prolific once you have a few generations they will increase in numbers exponentially! Good luck with it! 👍

      @@alasdairaquatics Thanks I'll keep at it and I agree they're such incredible fish! It was your first Tanganyikan setup that inspired me to try it out! 😊👍

    Hi mate, love the tank. Brichardi we’re the first Tangs I got and the first ones I bred. Great fish. Do you ever think about adding another species to it?

      Hi thanks for the comment. I have kept Julidochromis, leliupi and shell dwellers too but I find Brichardi to be the most aggressive when in a group as they get territorial when breeding. Although I had success mixing a single brichardi with Julidochromis and leliupi. There is a video of the other Tanganyikan tank on my channel, check it out if you are interested in seeing more! Thanks! 👍

      I just let algae grow on the rocks and fed the whole tank crushed flake food. 👍

    hi, are any of your tang tanks using the aquasky light you referred me too.. or any tank. can you do a piece on that light with a video, please?

    • @alasdairaquatics
      @alasdairaquatics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi these Oase aquariums don't have aquasky lights above them, instead they are using the stock Oase LEDs which came with the tanks. If you want to see how fluval aquasky lighting looks try giving my first few videos a watch, I had some Betta tanks setup which used fluval aquasky lights in the past, they are great lights! Good luck!
