Hello again, dear friend Thank you for making "Ring Ring", when ABBA was not called that I remember that when I was young (now I am almost 65 years old) there was no cell phone or internet, and not everyone had a telephone; and when I left my parents protested because I hung up the phone to talk to my girlfriend, or was waiting for her call, and I didn't want them to use it and occupy it what times those hahaha "Ring ring" was composed to go to Eurovision 1973 but was third in the Swedish preselection:(Melodiefestivalen) there they went with Agnetha with a very advanced first pregnancy (at eight months, you can see in some photos) "Ring Ring" is the third single (and first album) from the future quartet ABBA (in these times they called themselves as 'Bjorn and Benny; Agnetha and Frida') "Ring Ring" is the only ABBA song in english that have another more songwriters It's because their manager Stig Anderson called to Neil Sedaka for an english lyrics , and he did it with Pill Cody surely because of Agnetha's pregnancy and her postpartum, the future ABBA did not have many chances to promote "Ring Ring" That is why there is even a curious one: a TV presentation from 1973 performing "Ring Ring" without the presence of Agnetha, with Inger (a friend of Frida) in her place after Agnetha's postpartum the future ABBA makes a presentation in Denmark and there they film two videos: "Ring Ring" and "Love isn't easy" this is the first Ring Ring video with all four ABBA members together th-cam.com/video/VCMYP40QmZw/w-d-xo.html This official video is from 1974 After the victory in Eurovision with "Waterloo", ABBA begins with their official videos, and in two days they filmed both: "Waterloo" and "Ring Ring" the costumes they wear are superheroes, to be different from those of Waterloo (You can see these costumes on TV performances of "Honey honey") ABBA remixed the original recording from 1973, when they first applied the 'wall of sound' technique ABBA decided to release "Ring Ring" again in the UK and other countries in 1974, as the follow-up single after "Waterloo", but it barely reached number 32 in the UK. For me it is a very good song (8pts) it had its success a little beyond Sweden in 1973 and other European countries It's glam rock style, like the next, the glorious and iconic banger masterpiece "Waterloo" and last date "Ring Ring" was first ABBA song recorded in spanish language (also other languages), but not released in their time (that's why "Chiquitita" is first ABBA song released in spanish language) See you next time God bless you! my best regards to you from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America
In addition to what many people wrote here already, you young people consider that this song appeared when the phone was still a gadget often hung on the wall and to make a call you had to dial numbers by turning a wheel with your finger. That's why the girls are doing that movement in their dancing. Finally, this is my phone's ringtone today. I hear this every time someone is calling me.
This was their 1973 entry for Eurovision, but it didn't make it into the main contest. Very peppy with a Phil Spector-ish sound prevalent in the 60s. Eurovision at that time was very uppity and hi brow. They were really hoping to inject some poppy fun into the stale contest. Didn't make it that year , but only a year later they made history. Great fun song that will stick in your head for days. Great reaction to a great early song.
The song was originally written in Swedish and the English lyrics were written by Niel Sedaka, so this a rare case of Benny, Bjorn and Stig collaborating with another songwriter.
Pre Waterloo ABBA. 1973 to be exact. They're very innocent and and trying to find their signature sound. Btw a little trivia, they wear outrageous costumes because of a loophole in Swedish tax law. According to the law, as long as the outfits were too impractical for everyday wear and couldn't be worn outside a performance, they were tax-deductible. Brilliant! 😂😂😂 Btw I love Frida's snake skin costume. Very sexy.
Don't forget, before the end of the year, to react to "HAPPY NEW YEAR", one of their "most beloved sogs" (they said in their Official Newletter few hours ago).
I was born in 1975 and grew up with a mother that loves ABBA, so I heard them all the time when i was young. To this day, they're still one of my favorite groups of all time, and this is high on my list of favorite songs by them.
There are quite a few versions of Ring Ring. This is a more jazzed up harder edged version of the song. The Album track is more tepid. The song was intended as a Eurovision entry but I think it only came third in the Swedish heats. Bjorn looks like something out of a marvel film with his silly cape.
"Ring,Ring" is a song by the band Abba and their third single from 1973. The original, Swedish version was co-written by Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and the band's manager Stig Anderson. The English version was also worked on by Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody. Abba aspired to the Eurovision Song Contest with the song, but came third in the Swedish qualifiers, despite the band's solid position as pre-qualification favourites; in their place, Sweden went to the Eurovision Song Contest that year to be represented by a band called Nova and the Dolls. The group's position as the pre-qualification favorites in Sweden that year was so solid that from then on, the Swedish representatives for the Eurovision Song Contest were selected with the help of regional jurors made up of ordinary people instead of an expert juror. In 1974, Abba released a remix of the English version, which essentially did not differ much from the previous year's release, except for the improvement of the recording.
One of ABBA's early hits, Neil Sedaka was called upon to write the English lyrics. Amazing outfits in this videos, typical glam-rock style, They all look so happy in their videos, so enjoyable to see ABBA at those times. In Honey, Honey they were also wearing those costumes th-cam.com/video/ZRCn03diB-c/w-d-xo.html Suggest Happy New Year or Little Things next, as it is Christmas soon, also Dance (While The Music Still Goes On.) Thanks for the reaction. Don't be embarrassed. Men all around the world have been falling for Agnetha since the 70's. But I'm pretty sure it was Frida who was the real live wire. You should react to "Why Did It Have To Be Me" live version from Australia. While Agnetha was off stage Frida steals the show.
I love the way at minute three Marissa indulges the urge to do the circular hand motion from the video which was how we dialed the phone way back in the day. Frida and Agnetha did have a dance coach who merely taught them to move naturally, in their unique ways, only with a little extra flare. I don't know the guys name but in an image search for ABBA "dance practice" there are photos. Too bad Halloween has passed, you could have dressed in that outfit Frida is wearing! And Tyler could be that Bjorn super-hero guy. Actually, the girls do have one difficult mini-dance routine at the end of their live performances of "So Long" with skipping and spinning which wasn't executed perfectly every time. When you do that song I hope you'll find a version with that dance finale.
@@Lisa-M Thanks Lisa M. I was wondering about that. Marissa and Tyler, if you reed this reply, it's totally worth it to find a video version with the dance. I think there's one also in the ABBA Movie. Fingers crossed that gets a reaction , too.
That song really grew on me the more ive heard it. ^^ If you still want more ABBA recommendations that you haven't heard yet, I really like "Dum Dum Diddle", "What about Livingstone", "Lovers (live a little longer)" and the at first unreleased song "Dreamworld". And i feel like you and marissa would like the song "head over heels" and "the king has lost his crown" quite a bit too. The ABBA train is still going strong! :D (hope these recommendations are not annoying for you yet ^^°)
By far their craziest costumes (love Benny's big blue 💙 feather) and it was definitely worth it that you saw this video because of the glam rock costumes and the ladies dialling the phone with their hand movements - so cute !! Thanks for the great reaction. I think the album version is better though because it doesn't have the added saxophone that this video has- to me the sax added to the chorus is unnecessary and doesn't add anything to the song - the Phil Spector wall of sound is more than enough to carry the energy of the song without anything additional (I think the sax was added years after the song's original release but I'm not sure of the exact timeline).
Funny ❤, especially the Bjorn part! Yeh Abba were heavily choreographed early on, but they always made it look un choreographed. You only have to check out the Waterloo performance at Eurovision. They performed it twice in one evening, but the performance is choreographed to perfection. I could hardly spot the difference.
Hey!!!!!!!!!!!!! U must try the other version of the song! That video version is the 1974 remix song! In the enhanced version of Ring Ring Tretow's solution was to simply record the song's backing track twice in order to achieve an orchestral sound. Changing the speed of the tape between the overdubs, making the instruments marginally out of tune, increased the effect. This was unlike anything that had been done before in Swedish music.
"Bara Du Slog En Signal" was ABBA's entry into Sweden's 1973 "Melodifestivalen", which came in at a disappointing Nº3, which meant they would not go on to represent their home country in the '73 Eurovision Song Contest..............the next year they would make history for Sweden, giving them their first victory at the contest. They also recorded this in Spanish (in addition to Swedish and English).
Since you've almost done all the bangers and lots of deep cuts it's time to twist a bit your 'policy for some live or some Abba documentaries. This way you're gonna learn more about them and get to know them better as well the stories of their songs. You'll also see why they are so insistently and deeply beloved.
Another good reaction. Thanks again. A couple of suggestions : Should I Laugh or Cry. Frida is the lead on that one. Also, I know you have already reviewed Gimme Gimme Gimme but that was an edited version of the song. Please consider listening to the actual track - maybe from Gold. There's an entire instrumental and very trippy bridge which the edited film clip version deletes. I think you'll like it a lot.
Hey that ring ring video isn't the original ring ring it's the 1974 us edit I think the video was made later on by a year almost but it sounds almost the same
Here is the original version from the year before, 1973, performed in a video, which is even more fun and iconic (recorded outside the headquarter of the Danish Broadcasting Company in my hometown Copenhagen): th-cam.com/video/VCMYP40QmZw/w-d-xo.html
This version is what is called the “US Remix”. The better version, only slightly different with one sax part in each chorus, is the “1974 UK Remix” which was released as a single here in Australia and reached number 7 👍
I would to see your reaction to Abbas "Head over Heels" It was the start of the decline in ABBAs success by not hitting no 1 . It's also devisive among Fans but its one of my favorite songs.
I'm not sure the soundtrack is the right one for this video. This version is the slightly slower, sax version. I think the video was filmed using the slightly sped up, less reverb, no sax version. Someone may have put the sax version with the video and it might not have lined up, making it look out of sync or that they didn't know the words.
It’s the official video from the official ABBA channel. This video was recorded at the same time as Waterloo and used for the Ring Ring remix single that was released in 1974
@@swedeman5785 Yes, of course. That’s Janne Schaffer on lead guitar. Schaffer and Gunnarsson are legendary guitarists and recording artists of the 70s and 80s. They worked with ABBA for many years, and worked with many other great musicians in Europe and North America throughout their careers.
Hey Tyler .. There's absolutely no need to get defensive when Marissa says you have a thing for Agnetha .. For the vast majority of guys, she presses our buttons big time ! .. Frida is good looking for sure, but to most red blooded males, Agnetha is a 100% Goddess and we just can't stop looking at her .. Be loud and proud about your crush, Tyler ! 🥰🤩💘
@@wayne_twentyfive Agnetha is the same age as my mother, but I’ve been a huge fan of Agnetha and Frida since I was 5 years old. Hello again, dear friend
Thank you for making "Ring Ring",
when ABBA was not called that
I remember that when I was young (now I am almost 65 years old) there was no cell phone or internet, and not everyone had a telephone;
and when I left my parents protested because I hung up the phone to talk to my girlfriend, or was waiting for her call, and I didn't want them to use it and occupy it
what times those hahaha
"Ring ring" was composed to go to Eurovision 1973 but was third in the Swedish preselection:(Melodiefestivalen)
there they went with Agnetha with a very advanced first pregnancy (at eight months, you can see in some photos)
"Ring Ring" is the third single (and first album) from the future quartet ABBA
(in these times they called themselves as
'Bjorn and Benny; Agnetha and Frida')
"Ring Ring" is the only ABBA song in english that have another more songwriters It's because their manager Stig Anderson called to Neil Sedaka for an english lyrics , and he did it with Pill Cody
surely because of Agnetha's pregnancy and her postpartum, the future ABBA did not have many chances to promote "Ring Ring"
That is why there is even a curious one:
a TV presentation from 1973 performing
"Ring Ring" without the presence of Agnetha,
with Inger (a friend of Frida) in her place
after Agnetha's postpartum
the future ABBA makes a presentation in Denmark
and there they film two videos:
"Ring Ring" and "Love isn't easy"
this is the first Ring Ring video with all four ABBA members together
th-cam.com/video/VCMYP40QmZw/w-d-xo.html
This official video is from 1974
After the victory in Eurovision with "Waterloo", ABBA begins with their official videos, and in two days they filmed both:
"Waterloo" and "Ring Ring"
the costumes they wear are superheroes, to be different from those of Waterloo
(You can see these costumes on TV performances of "Honey honey")
ABBA remixed the original recording from 1973, when they first applied the 'wall of sound' technique
ABBA decided to release "Ring Ring" again in the UK and other countries in 1974, as the follow-up single after "Waterloo", but it barely reached number 32 in the UK.
For me it is a very good song (8pts) it had its success a little beyond Sweden in 1973 and other European countries
It's glam rock style, like the next, the glorious and iconic banger masterpiece "Waterloo"
and last date
"Ring Ring" was first ABBA song recorded in spanish language (also other languages), but not released in their time (that's why "Chiquitita" is first ABBA song released in spanish language)
See you next time God bless you!
my best regards to you from

It's a lot nicer than the ridiculous home-made confection that Agnetha's wearing 😂
This was their first Top 3 hit in South Africa. It was released as "Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha & Frida (pre-"ABBA").

I just love your reactions
From Brazil 🇧🇷
:)) I like the album/European version the most without the sax
Love Ring Ring but I definitely prefer the album version that doesn’t have the saxophone 🎷
Same
Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!! The album version is much better!
PS Should I Laugh or Cry was the B side of One of Us. Powerful duo to release at near end of their first incarnation.
Happy new year guys
Thanks, Marissa! Thanks, Tyler! 📞 #TylerCreatesContent #TCCReacts #RingRing #ABBA
Frida's outfit is the most beautiful, by far !
They make Sweden proud!! 😁😁
big fan in me, right here in Southern Australia !
This weekend it's 50 years ago that Ring Ring got published, here Bjørn and Frida on the phone th-cam.com/video/3iXJ2pdzmAI/w-d-xo.html
It is remixed version, it is good, but the original one is better as per me ;)
React to Happy new year, to ring in 2023! Love the girls harmony in that song
The clothing was part of the Glam Rock years.
This was their failed Eurovision entry for 1973 and hence, had to be no loner than 3 minutes as per Eurovision rules.
Very glam
He was probably singing the Swedish lyrics.
That one really sounds much better in Swedish.
I would to see your reaction to Abbas "Head over Heels"
It was the start of the decline in ABBAs success by not hitting no 1 .
It's also devisive among Fans but its one of my favorite songs.
Next: I am am A. The only Abba-song that tells about Abba (except I still have faith in you). And it is LIVE 100%.
Is this the only video that has the whole band in it?
I'm not sure the soundtrack is the right one for this video. This version is the slightly slower, sax version. I think the video was filmed using the slightly sped up, less reverb, no sax version. Someone may have put the sax version with the video and it might not have lined up, making it look out of sync or that they didn't know the words.
The album version is much better and much better known
It’s the official video from the official ABBA channel. This video was recorded at the same time as Waterloo and used for the Ring Ring remix single that was released in 1974
Who is the other guy in green shirt on guitar ?
The late great Swedish bass guitarist, Rutger Gunnarsson!
@@noelleggett5368 Thanks but still confused,in the end there are 2 in green..?
@@swedeman5785 Yes, of course. That’s Janne Schaffer on lead guitar. Schaffer and Gunnarsson are legendary guitarists and recording artists of the 70s and 80s. They worked with ABBA for many years, and worked with many other great musicians in Europe and North America throughout their careers.
Please react to their song "Head Over Heels".
Thats definately a re-mix or has had extra Saxophone parts added. Mostly original though.
Borjn is the jokester
Two For The Price of One" next! The words are AMAZINGLY funny! and tghere's a Chiquitita style ending!
Watch video of them singing love isn't easy but it sure is hard enought younger still
The year before Waterloo won eurovision this entry from abba = entered year before= didn't win ! . . Great sax as well...?.
1973.
Please check out Bjorn's "Two For The Price of One" next!

One of Agnetha’s granddaughters, Tilda Ekrengren-Ulvaeus, will be turning 22 in a few weeks.
@@noelleggett5368 That's amazing .. Now you're really making me feel old ! 😟
@@wayne_twentyfive Agnetha is the same age as my mother, but I’ve been a huge fan of Agnetha and Frida since I was 5 years old. I’m a couple of years older than Linda (the subject of ‘Slipping through my fingers’) - who had a recording career of her own, and I have nieces around the same age as Linda’s girls. I’m sure Tyler and Marissa realise that there are generations of men and women who have been nursing ABBA crushes for half a century. Welcome to the club! She’s still beautiful at 71 - but seriously, Tyler??? :-)
@@noelleggett5368 You certainly know your ABBA trivia ! .. I've had my Agnetha crush for about 55 years, and I agree with you that she is still an attractive woman into her 70s .. Obviously much older looking, but still lovely .. In her 20s, she was in a league of her own !
@@noelleggett5368 we all have in our minds the icon/vision of the Abba girls in their youth.Pretty natural. This is something many of us can never escape, can we.?
This is a slightly different version from what was introduced way back when. Still good but not as, imo.
Can you react to Kylie Minogue Can't Get You Out of My Head or Slow or Confide in Me
Agnetha...the most beautiful woman that ever walked this earth 🌍 Ireland 🇮🇪
