hey I appreciate your video I am just starting out so a couple weeks ago I coudln't strum these chords but now I'm playing along to the video, it is so satisfying.
that being said, I've been practicing the G major Major Scale up and down the neck of the guitar to start out, I'm hoping you're playing the a major scale there? then I could just shift everything and be on my way to jamming to this song?

This is an awesome vid! I love nerding out about theory. Just wondering, isn't the A chord sometimes major in the D minor scale? Since V -> i sounds better than v -> i. So could the song be in d minor? and Cmaj and Bbmaj are also in the D minor scale
Yo! Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I definitely enjoy the sound of A major in the context of D minor as well. That would still be a borrowed chord from D Harmonic minor though. Here is the difference between the two scales.
D MINOR = D E F G A Bb C
D HARMONIC MINOR = D E F G A Bb C#
So, the only difference between the two is that D harm has a major 7th interval at the end, and that C# is -p r e c i s e l y- the difference between an A minor chord (naturally occurring harmony in the key of D minor) and an A Major chord (naturally occurring harmony in D Harmonic Minor)! :-)
So can A Major exist "naturally" in the key of D minor? No. The note C# is not in the key of D minor, and that is the major 3rd of the A chord. Does it sound wicked and amazing if we borrow A major from D harmonic minor and play it in the key of D minor?? YES! And we should do so abusively until someone catches us. 😛

Did you ever notice in benee's video the guitar player is stroking upwards on some of the notes? Does that make any difference in the sound of the cords?
What up, Blue Skyz! Great observation! They're definitely using upstrokes. I had not seen the video, so I went in search of it just now. The short answer is YES and NO. Yes, it does affect the sound. No, it's not a marked difference in this context given that each strum is so swift.

Blake Wright Good question! I would like to say the Suhr is my number one, BUT... I use the gretsch penguin for so much. The PRS 408 is amazingly consistent, and the tone is great, but it sits a little low on my leg to be comfortable for long periods of time. It’s fine standing tho. The suhr is best built, the gretsch is certainly the loudest, and the 408 is the most versatile. I have a few others but that’s my top three

Thanks so much! oooof, it’s been a while since I recorded this. I’ll have to look at my Logic Pro session and see what is going on in my signal chain 😂 I will say that it is probably the Neural DSP Plini plugin for all the tones in this video... PROBABLY.
ALSO, I think I’m using the “chorus” pedal plugin on Logic. So I dont think any hardware was used for this tone 😯
