Normally, I don't do New Year's resolutions, but I want to read more books this year. So, I am keeping my eyes open for good books to read. That's why I will keep watching your channel. 🙂
There is a British show called “Call the Midwife” & the nurses, nuns & lay, work at Nonnatus House after St Raymond. St Therese of Lisieux “chose” me. I had glanced at a statue I have of her, never really paying attention as it’s on the back of a shelf. Right after that I opened my litany prayer book to randomly pray one & who popped up! St Therese. I saw your video & realized what that had meant. Thank you for all you share with us! I’ve already ordered books on her & have a nice book to use as a journal of my journey of making friends with Therese. PS I asked her for help with a simple task & she immediately answered! (I had already asked deceased family members).
Happy 2025! I'm doing the "Bible In A Year" with Fr. Mike Schmitz (Ascension Press) and the "Rosary In A Year" with Fr. Mark-Mary (Ascension Press). My saint is Catherine Laboure' who brought us the Miraculous Medal! My word is "expansive".
Ohh- St. Catherine Laboure; she rested her head in the lap of the Blessed Mother. Can you even imagine?! You will have a wonderful year with her. God bless!
For your interest in Catholic Movies, Boys Town, The Miracle of the Bells, and also The Scarlet and The Black, the true story of an Irish Monsenior who, during WWII, helped Jews, POWs, and allied airmen. He would wear disguises to travel around Rome because the SS had placed a price on his head. The very ending with the credits was almost to wonderful to be true be true, the many lives he touched.
Thank you for the idea of even making a list! 1. While I can't declutter 2025 items, I do like the idea of counting the items I get rid of so I will be doing that! 2. Also, inspired by your GK Chesteron idea, I am going to read Chesterton's Orthodoxy - specifically Orthodoxy: With Annotations and Guided Reading by Trevin Wax. 3. Also, thank you for the Jubilee prayer and Spes Non Confundit links, I will read those! 4. Finish puzzle of Jesus holding a lamb. 5. Rosary in a Year 6. Read more of my unread Catholic books that I already own 7. Finish Christmas prep by August so I can relax in December! 8. Sew fleece onto the back of my Our Lady of Guadalupe blanket 9. Finish a big project I have going 10. Make an Advent calendar out of wood - it will be in the shape of a Christmas tree and when you open each door there will be an electronic tea light inside and so each day the Advent tree will get brighter with each tea light (this is my most ambitious project so wish me luck!). Thank you again for your wonderful ideas! Have a Happy and Blessed New Year!
We love your ideas, Loretta! #10 is so cool… may have to have the boys here try something like that (we have woodworkers here). We will look for that edition of Orthodoxy; that seems to be the book to start with. Thank you!
Happy 2025! We have been looking for good Catholic movies too. One we really enjoyed last year was from 1983 with Gregory Peck, The Scarlet and the Black, it’s about the Vatican and WWll. Love your idea of decluttering 2025 things. Thanks so much for all the inspiration!
For a Chesterton book to read -- I recommend Orthodoxy. It's not long, it's a bit of a conversion story, as well as many observations I found interesting, and some ideas about God that I really enjoyed. Last year, one of my goals was to memorize a couple psalms, and I did memorize two. I was originally planning to memorize another two or three this year, but my priest said I could memorize all of John's gospel...a MUCH bigger challenge. Now I can't decide!
Thanks for your input! We will look into Orthodoxy… conversion stories are a favorite here, so now you have us curious :) Love the idea of memorizing psalms- beautiful. How about just John's prologue to start? It is so awesome- we love the opening lines. Have a happy and blessed New Year!
Again, you just give some incredible ideas for your Bucket List. I am also doing Rosary in a Year. I have already really enjoyed the first two sessions. To sit quietly and ponder Jesus and know how much he loves me and wants to hear my voice. It really touched my heart. I am glad you got the book to go with it. I also purchased the book, although I had not done so with the other two "in a year" programs. I plan to read Introduction to the devout life and A pope and a president. Just in case others are at all interested, my saint picked this year is St. Dymphna.
We enjoyed today's mediation, too… though we are going to give Jesus a break and not touch any of his tools, lol. We'll just chat. We're so glad we're on the RIY journey with you, Ann. St. Dymphna is a great one!
Oh, my goodness- thank you for reminding us about Formed! We do have and love it. Usually we listen to audiobooks from the site, but we are going to check out the movies now. Score!
Happy 2025 my dear ladies! My 2025 goals are simple: Pray, read & study more, safeguard my health, & try to be a better person. Thanks to your saint generator I got St. Odilia. She's the patron saint of the blind, sick, & poor. Her story is awesome!! Her feast day is December 13th, the day after the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe 🌹❤. Between her, my beloved patron saint Archangel Michael, St. Anthony of Padua, & the Blessed Mother, I should be good on 2025😊 God bless you two! I love you both & the precious channel. You're the best ❤❤
Wow, I love your goals for 2025. In fact, I hope you don't mind, but I plan to copy most of them! I will continue with Bible in a Year and my goal is to finish it this year. Altogether, it will have taken me 1 1/2 years. I just started Rosary in a Year yesterday and I hope to complete that. I need to create a schedule for attending Adoration, and I also have a list of Catholic books to read: 1. The Fathers Know Best by Jimmy Akin (Early Church Fathers) 2. The Monastic Heart by Joan Chittister, OSB 3. The first 2 Brother Cadfael Omnibus books by Ellis Peters 4. Catholicism by Bishop Robert Barron 5. The Desert Fathers by Benedicta Ward 6. The Sacred and the Profane by Mircea Eliade 7. The Complete Francis of Assisi by Jon Sweeney 8. More G.K. Chesterton, like you!
@@catholicmomanddaughter Along with a couple titles, I got 4 copies of the My True Love Gave to Me: A Children's Catechism for the Twelve Days of Christmas and gave them to my family and one to a friend. That was a huge hit! It really is a beautiful book 💜
Happy New Year to you ladies! Your goals seem very doable. May I suggest for a pilgrimage the Basilica of the national shrine of the Immaculate Conception, as well as the national gallery in Washington. That way you can see that awesome painting of Mary too!
Can you tell me what you do with the saint you picked? Do you study them? Read about them through the year? Not exactly sure what to do. Thank you! Happy New Year to you both I love your channel! God bless you both!
Hello and Happy New Year! Yes- we read about them (on line or a biography/ book), and if they have any written works, we try to read at least some of those as well. We also ask daily for their intercession and prayers for us. If we can find a nice picture, we will display that as well. By the end of the year they seem like old friends, and we add them to our special saint family. Hope that helps!
Happy 2025! My Saint of the year is Clare of Montefalco (all the references emphasize she is not Clare of Assisi LOL). I look forward to learning about her. I am going to use the Catholic Faith Journal you recommended as a gratitude journal. Love your monthly task list! Novenas are so powerful. I am starting one today to St. Gerard Majella for expectant mothers. I have a friend who is due in February and is having potentially serious placenta issues.
St. Gerard, pray for us! He is such a wonder worker- what a great saint to start off with. Your St. Clare is also called St. Clare of the Cross (we think). She's also a great one! Happy New Year :)
Happy 2025 and Many Blessings. I will be joining you both for Rosary in a year :D I am redoing Catechism in a year and have my St Companion St Anthony of Padua..also my word..gentle...lets see what God does with this. :D Have a wonderful and blessed day! :D

I thought about doing the Rosary in a Year, but decided instead to listen to the Desert Fathers in a Year. I'm already doing the Bible in a Year and the Catechism in a Year (which I may just do every year), and my year is only big enough for 3 things, so RIY will have to wait until next year. Decluttering is right up my alley, but I'm not sure I have 2025 items left in my house! I'll have to keep count of what I do declutter. (Question: Do I have to take into account new books that I buy? I.e., 10 books decluttered minus 3 new books bought only equals 7 books decluttered? Enquiring minds want to know.) I do have a stack of books that I will never read again that I am planning on taking to the used book store. I decided this last year to pass along books that I am sure I won't read again, either to a friend, the church library, or the used book store. When I retired, I had a couple thousand books, and it's down to one bookcase now. I used to say that I would never get rid of a book, but that's just not practical for me now. Now I'm working on those books that I'm realizing I can live without. Simplify!
I discovered a new avenue for passing along good, scholarly Catholic books. A friend's son is a Dominican priest, and I give them to him. (Dominicans love their books!) If he doesn't want it, he will know someone who does.
It sounds like you have a very good system going there, Margaret… lucky Dominicans! Lol- we, too, have pondered how to count the book totals ( new ones in vs. old ones out), and we've decided to keep the counts separate (not the net total). Our thinking is that every book brought in was brought in for a reason, and when it leaves (which it might never do, at least not soon) it will be counted in the decluttering total, but not until then. Hopefully, though, more will be going out than in!
I began decluttering in 2014 (thought we were going to move....we didn't lol!). For all of the stuff we donated, I'm sure the neighbors thought we were moving out lol! I've even done "Swedish Death Cleaning" and I consider myself a minimalist. While I'm *always* looking for things to declutter, I would be hard pressed to find 2025 items (unless I cleaned out my husband's barn aka the "man cave".) He does not consider himself a minimalist!
Great goals ladies! Kate, I have heard of St. Raymond of Nonnatus, only because I read Jennifer Worth’s books the show Call the Midwife is based off of.
