For 23 years old, that truck is in great shape, i remember seeing these new when i was a kid, the ranger and s10 couldn't even come close, always loved the starter sound and the colors chrysler offered back then, especially on the sport packages
She held up pretty well over the years.. crazy to believe it’s 23 years old now.. and Without a doubt that’s for sure! I remember looking at several trucks before I found this one and the v8 sound and the color where definitely two big deciding factors for me to buy this truck! Thanks for watching!
I have a 2000 Dakota SLT Quad Cab 4x4 with the 4.7 V8. Looks like new with only 41,000 miles on the odometer. Purchased it new and will own it until I die. Great freaking truck !
That is a nice truck. The bumper delete looks classy. I have a Dakota and made a video about it. I don't drive it everyday but it is nice to have a truck when you need one
In the olden days, 100k was a big milestone. It was tradition to get out and push the car over the 100,000 mile mark. Anyone riding in the car at the time also had to push. I'm only 56 but I've pushed several cars over the big 00,000! They used to roll back around to zero so you got a "brand new car" when it rolled over.
Dodge mechanic told me the transmissions are solid, they just have a weak link, something pumping the fluids... He said if you'll get in the habit of always putting the truck in Neutral for a brief second before you put it in gear (R or D), it will last forever. Dodge switched Dakota to a new electronic gear selector thing in 2002. Now you can hear the gears 'selecting' every time you stop. (I have 2000 and 2002 Dakotas).
I always love the new content. Shout out all the way from Missouri. I've got an 01 ram 1500 5.9, that I've pretty much re-done. Couldn't pay me to trade for new.
Got lots of new content planned, gonna try to get dedicated this year and upload alot more! Sounds like you got a nice ride, some of the newer stuff is nice, but nothing beats older trucks. 🤘🏻 thanks for watching!
One of my truck pulls a 16 foot trailer with a landscape and business for 20 term lawn mowers. If they're heavy but my trailer's been fabricated all apartment floor no wood on the floor I got a strong v eight😊
I was waiting for it to roll over, I was ready to catch it 😂 crazy thing was I took that clip back in September of 2021. So this video was long overdo lol, thanks for watching!
I own a 97 Dodge Dakota 4x4 with over 236,000 miles on it. It has the 3.9 engine. I have owned the truck since 2006. I am mechanically inclined, so I have maintained the truck, done all the repairs myself except for the exhaust replacement. I have no check engine lights and great oil pressure. Everything still works. The AC still works but has a slow leak that seems to get worse every year. It is still my daily driver truck. I have taken it from Utah to Iowa 4 times and never had a problem. These are good trucks if you take care of them. Personally, I'd stay away from the 4.7 and get the 3.9 or the 5.2. It is getting harder to maintain the truck as a lot of the parts have been discontinued.
@@Subat0micR0gu3 I don't mind. The 4.7 is a Powertech engine yet they still call it a Magnum, they are a bit more modern than the earlier Magnum but not as reliable and are a bit more complicated to work on in my opinion. The 4.7 is notorious for having valve train issues, more specifically valve seating issues that I have seen lead to damage to the cam shaft. There are improved aftermarket parts to fix this problem. I helped my neighbor replace the lifters and it was a real pain in the butt. The earlier Magnum is notorious for having random or multiple misfires because of the lower plenum plate gasket failure. The plate is too thin and due to the constant expansion and contraction of the plate the gasket fails and leaks which leads to the misfires. There is a thicker plate you can get that fixes that problem and is not too complicated to replace. In reality I guess it comes down to your mechanical skills. Don't get me wrong the 4.7 is a decent engine when it is running proper and there are also High Output (HO) versions with increased horsepower and torque floating around. I wish I could find a HO version to the 3.9 but they don't make em. You have to resort to adding s supercharger and other upgrades. For me the Magnums are very reliable. Easier and more simplistic to work on and they are all practically the same with the exception to the number of cylinders. Hope that answers your question.
Love to get a catch-up video on your brother and his vehicle antics, do you drive that Dakota everyday? You got in it well? I know your a tall guy as am I.
I’m actually headed to my brothers this weekend to film a handful of new videos so I’m excited to get that content put out for you guys! And yeah I’m 6’7 and fit fine in my Dakota. Thankfully no problems here lol
I recommend doing the waterpump, they're notorious for failing and overheating the engine. I do mine every 3 years, seems worst on the 4.7Lt which is what i have.
I’d say as long as the body is in good shape with no / little rust, and if the fluids have been maintained regularly it would be a good truck. As with any vehicle, just depends on the price and what kind of shape it’s in. Mine just hit 109k and runs perfect. Good luck! And thanks for watching!
250k on my 98 3.9 standard trans, runs amazing, very easy to work on. Mine is only a rwd which is a bummer buuuut for what it is as i will never get ride of mine
@stefanjouef5079 in the time that I posted this comment I got a 2001 4.7l with 190000 miles for 2500 and I've had it almost a year absolutely love this thing
I have 206000 + miles on my truck, just recently had to rebuild my tranny, but other than the usual maintenance and a couple other minor issues I've enjoyed my truck. I was wondering, what do you think about graphics on your truck. Might be a nice touch.
I think once I get the truck repainted, I may do some sort of vinyl graphic on it. Maybe a bumblebee stripe around the rear of the bed and some small accent stripes on the hood. Possibly in a gray or silver might look cool

Pretty cool to catch the 100,000 mile roll over. Most don't notice.
I was waiting for it to roll over, I was ready to catch it 😂 crazy thing was I took that clip back in September of 2021. So this video was long overdo lol, thanks for watching!
@thekehmcrew That's pretty cool, takes a fastidious mind to catch it 😆

I do recall replacing the idler pulley, can’t recall if I did the water pump. Never had a problem with it if I haven’t. Thanks for watching!
Wheels are American Racing Python….I have the same ones on my 98 Dakota😊
I really wish they didn’t discontinue this style of wheel.. I really like it and would like to get a new set someday! Thanks for watching!
I'm in the market for a truck and the Dakota is up there so you think they're worth buying with 160k plus miles?

@@thekehmcrew i ended up scoring a very clean 2001 slt 4 door with 119k miles for 2900
250k on my 98 3.9 standard trans, runs amazing, very easy to work on. Mine is only a rwd which is a bummer buuuut for what it is as i will never get ride of mine
I own a 3.9 4x4 2003 Here on Aruba, 415.000 km!
@stefanjouef5079 in the time that I posted this comment I got a 2001 4.7l with 190000 miles for 2500 and I've had it almost a year absolutely love this thing
Nice !!
If you're interested in the performance difference between the 4.7 and the 5.9 that 4.7 will outrun that 5.9 in 1/4 MI
