    Great tips!! It's so tempting to spend all your structured practice time studying OLL and PLL as it feels so much more tangible to check another algorithm off the list, I have full PLL and half of OLL but I think I'm going to stop on OLL and focus much more on F2L. I have been doing lots of cross practice where I do the cross with my eyes closed off inspection to try and get so I can focus on look ahead instead of just watching what I'm doing. I also started doing f2l with a rule that I can never do a cube rotation to try and get some muscle memory going on the back slots. Getting consistent look ahead going with f2l is where I really struggle. It takes so much focus for me to take my eyes off what I'm doing. I've gotten to a pretty consistent sub-30 with a pb of 19.

    • @JPerm

    NOTES&TIMESTAMPS for me
    0:00 0. 2-look OLL + most of PLLs
    0:10 1. MUSCLE MEMORY FOR EVERYTHING
    0:13 2 example 2 F2L cases
    0:42 execute fast by muscle memory like LL
    0:52 just think of it, execute very quickly with muscle memory
    1:03 example u perm: don't think about fingers for memorize,
    1:19 with good finger tricks
    1:25 LOOK AHEAD: don't look at your current pair
    1:29 link in description
    1:31 while solving a pair: looking other pieces, not the current pair
    1:43 if not -> wouldn't see the edge ahead, but if look ahead -> easiest, and look ahead again
    2:00 speedcubers example solves always look ahead
    2:06 INSERT FROM BACK
    2:10 bad if not
    2:18 e.g
    2:35 e.g
    2:46 only work with good algorithm (without F/F')
    2:50 PAIR WHEN TAKE PIECES OUT (take pieces out of slots the smart way)
    3:03 if 1 edge not in top layer: no extra moves
    3:06 e.g.
    3:35 exempli gratia
    3:54 experiment
    4:00 if cases non-intuitive -> hard
    4:05 example, sledgehammer: R' F R F'
    4:14 e.g.
    4:22 when corner not in top layer: pair in 3 moves
    4:40 experiment
    4:41 U/U' INSTEAD CUBE ROTATIONS (F2L&LL)
    4:55 e.g. OLL
    5:09 e.g. PLL: don't line the blocks (because cube rotations), instead: U/U' and AUF (ajust U face)
    5:31 e.g. F2L
    - U/U' to find piece
    6:00 CONCLUSION
    6:02 60 moves/20 secs=3 tps. But faster in LL -> 2 tps -> can slow in F2L
    6:13 lot of practice !!
    6:19 if bad recognition but 6 tps -> avg20

If your f2l is good enough for sub 15 without even 2 look oll, you have the potential to be WAY faster with good oll algs.

    I’m very close. I average 22 seconds.
    I learned full OLL which helped my times by about 2 seconds. I know good f2l lags and do the cross on the bottom.
    My splits:
    Cross/F2L/OLL/PLL : 4/10/3/4 (+1 for cross-f2l transition).
    My main weak points are: My cross-f2l transition can be really bad at times. Some PLL’s I don’t do smoothly.

    1) Muscle memory everything.
    2) Look ahead.
    3) Also insert into the back slot.
    4) Learn advanced F2L.
    5) Use U turns instead of cube rotation.

    I'm feel like there are a lot more cubers who are yet to reach sub-20 than the ones who are advanced enough to be sub-20! (and I'm one of the noobies)
    Thank you for the helpful video! I'll definitely keep those in mind.

    I have a dumb question, when someone says "I'm sub 20", is it on single or their best out of 5 or something else? Just asking to know where I am :D. definitely not sub20 though since my PB single is 23s... :(

    • @chaosblitz7921
      @chaosblitz7921 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The "I'm sub-20" rank is only achieved when you have a sub 20 on an average that is huge, for example Ao100 or an Ao1000. Or if you consistently get sub 20 averages in WCA competitions, that also gives you the "Sub-20" rank.

    • @thehandleiwantedwasntavailable
      @thehandleiwantedwasntavailable 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SSayan
      A better way to quote your “I’m this fast” is to explicitly state how you’re calculating that.
      For example, I quote my ao5 time and consider that my ‘sub-X’ time. Ao5 meaning Average Of/Over 5 solves. The average is calculated by removing the best and worst solves of the 5, and then averaging the remaining 3.

    I'm super stoked for your next video. I currently average around 16.5 so it's gonna be right in my ball park.
    Also, do you or anyone else happen to know right off hand that alg where you are inserting your last F2L pair into the back but you're going to get a dot case and you do this particular alg instead of a back sledge in order to avoid doing a cube rotation?

    • @JPerm
