Here he is--the second boss of the game, and the first proper one. (Hey, if Skelter Helter can be a boss character, despite being the tutorial, why can't the Mad Doctor's machine?) If you've ever been on any of the Small World rides, you will immediately recognize this thing: It's the clock at the center of the ride's outer façade. Normally, it carries a swinging, cheerful demeanor, but this thing's turned psycho! if you ever wanted to see the Uncanny Valley that this game embodies, the Clock Tower boss is the best case in the game, if you ask me. It's embodied not just in that deranged face, but the huge mechanical arms that come out of it, the backdrop with its distorted world buildings and twisted geometrical shapes, and most definitely in the music--listen carefully, and you'll hear it's a demented version of that famous song.
Uncanny Valley, for those of you unfamiliar with the concept, is the idea that if you take something happy or natural and change one thing to it, it suddenly becomes creepy. We humans have the ability to sense things that are "not right," and sometimes, these things that are just a little bit off can be scarier than those that are way off. For instance, the characters in The Polar Express (remember that Christmas movie?) evoke Uncanny Valley in a lot of those who have seen it. The CGI designers were very good at making convincing-looking humans, and motion-capture technology allowed them to move like humans too. The problem is that they had dead eyes--that is, the eyes did NOT move like natural human eyes. People noticed it, even if only subconsciously, and did not like seeing these characters.
Epic Mickey employs the same effect with Disneyland stuff, but on purpose--this is a horror game, after all.
By the way, the clock tower in the actual ride is named Glockenspiel. Gregory Marinello was the artist; he designed, created, and shipped Glockenspiel to Disneyland. And yes, it really does function as a clock: Every 15 minutes, a bunch of dolls march by, and two cubes pop out from the Small World facade. The large one displays the hour, and the small one displays the minutes (either 00, 15, 30, or 45).
Since I defeated the Clock Tower in this game with Paint, I'm given a Paint upgrade, so now I have 4 units. I mentioned that each boss can be defeated with Paint or Thinner, and they will respond in different ways. Here, you can see the Paint disables the hands, and once both are disabled, he'll bring Mickey up to his face, where Mickey can repaint it in and he'll go back to normal. If you defeat him with Thinner, the outer shell of the hands come off, and when he tries to slam his fists onto the ground, they will shatter. Once both are shattered, he concedes defeat . Either way, you're given access to the projector that takes you to Mean Street. There is no stage here, unfortunately.
Mean Street, of course, is based on Main Street, U.S.A. This is the entry area of Disneyland and the hub for most of the other areas: Main Street connects to Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland, each of the four other areas when the park first opened, as well as Sleeping Beauty Castle. Main Street is where you'll find a lot of gift shops and restaurants and is themed around turn-of-the-century America, with horse-drawn carriages, red brick buildings, and gaslamps.
Mean Street, of course, is the darker version. It once resembled the Disneyland Main Street, but after the Thinner Disaster, only a small part of it is left. Nevertheless, this place does an impressive job of replicating the Disneyland Main Street. The train station is in the back (behind the projector). Immediately in front are City Hall on the left and a museum on the right. Beyond that are gift shops and an ice cream shop near the back, with a theater across the street.
By the way, you may be wondering what Pete is doing here. This is the Pete that fought Oswald the Lucky Rabbit--yes, before Pete decided to pick on Mickey, he plagued Oswald. And he caused trouble even before Oswald. Introduced in 1925, Pete is actually Disney's oldest character still in use! This Pete, with the peg leg, is the version that butt heads with Oswald, hence why he is in Wasteland.
By the way, Jim Cummings plays Pete. He took over from Paul Winchell in the 80s and also took on the voice of Tigger (and then sometimes voiced Pooh). Jim Cummings is practically everywhere in American voice acting, especially in the 90s. He's been Monterey Jack and Don Karnage. He's been Dino and Dick Dastardly. He's been every Beagle Boy (except Ma). He's been that scrawny purple-haired punk who keeps showing up in Static Shock. He's big among voice acting circles. - เกม
Aww! I'm glad someone else "fixed" him rather than just using thinner.
It's a great song, but I can see how the Clock Tower feels having to listen to it non-stop. The poor fella.

Oswald: I think I hear Ortensia calling me, I gotta go.
Clock Tower: YOU'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE!!! YOU WILL STOP THE MUSIC OR YOU WILL DIE!!!
Oswald: Wait a minute, YOU HAVE ARMS?!
Clock Tower: *tries to smash Oswald*
Oswald: *escapes through a projector screen*
Clock Tower: OSWAAAAAALLLLD!!!!!!!
But how did the clock tower calm down and get its hands back in? Also,wouldnt the square holding the arms in the first place be broken?

Actually that might be the case, because the pin you get after you beat the boss is called "Stop the Music"!
I believe that the machine was more of an enviromental hazard like the People Movers in Tomorrow City; If you weren't careful, it could kill you easily.
On another note, it appears that he talks so nonchalant after you save him, like he has no idea what he ever did.

I wonder if Square Enix puts the Wasteland in Kingdom Hearts 3 and make the ClockTower the secret boss in KH3 and put the shadow blot as the boss

Thank you! With Epic Mickey, it's because I've been to Disneyland many times and have read about its history, so I hope anyone with interest in the references in this game will read the descriptions. (Not many do though.)
My understanding of Uncanny Valley is that the closer something gets to being more human like (I've also heard "perfect" instead), the more "off" it becomes. Not necessarily a general "something is changed" sort of deal.
This is more a general creepyness, to me.
So, potentially, can you heal all of the bosses you come across to become friends with them? That's a first in a game, if so. That seems nice to me. :)

Yeah. I know it's a 6 year old comment, but Undertale has a similar system where you can befriend pretty much everything (Epic Mickey came out first though). You've most likely heard of it in the last 6 years.

First time I did this was the thinner path, but now, I've got my paint maxed out and then my thinner unaltered.
So this is the reason why I've always hated the Glockenspiel face on small world

I would imagine if you came back and found him asleep just relaxing in the night with the stars…it would make him 2x as adorable…but the creators can’t add expressions to him… 😓

When I first played through this boss, it never occured to me (I have no idea why) that he could be befriended with paint, so he's the only boss I beat with thinner.
I know that now, but it was my first time. Anyways, I'm using this as a reference guide if I get stuck. I got stuck on the bouquet quest, but now I'm up to Tortooga.

in comic oswald goofy and donald try to clean him but the clock is in a bad mood and atacks them but they stop that song and he chears up but when they leave the mad docter starts the muisic cuasing him to suffer

Whoa so in order to do this you have to paint one arm, keep track of it by keep painting it at times while trying to do the other arm???? this is why I've been using thinner all this time..
a easier way is to paint one near the point of it getting fully painted and fully paint the opposite hand

@Overhazard Judge Doom (the villian of the film) used his creation that destroys toons called the Dip (similar to the thinner in this game) and he demonstrates it by killing a shoe.
S.R. Hunt there is likely no point in replying to such an old comic, but the Dip isn't similar to thinner, it IS thinner.

If you paint the arms one by one, don’t do that. The paint will eventually wear off and you have to start over. Paint them equally to make your life easier

Now I played this game when I was young. And not very smart. Weirdly enough I wasn’t scared at this game. Weird I know. This boss. I never knew what to do. Then I realised I had to destroy the hands? I don’t remember the rest. (And I haven’t watched the video)

Don't count on it. Junction Point was shut down after the commercial failure of Epic Mickey 2.

well i have played neither of those games, but the machine doesnt count as a boss. especially since it takes no effort, in fact gus actually tells you how to shut it off. go on the epic mickey wiki and it will say the first boss is the clock tower

its just not hard. there is never a boss in the start of a game. its more of a boss in epic mickey either gives you a paint storage capacity increase or a thinner. it is only a machine rather than a boss, and more of an enemy.

Mean Street is indeed what it's called in the game itself. This isn't strictly Disneyland; this is Wasteland, so the names will be slightly different, such as Ventureland, Tomorrow Square, and Bog Easy.

I still don’t look at spatters the same way to this day.
