Everything you said is so true. I've been on the wagon for 10 years, 5 months and 2 days. (A true alky will always remember his last day!). All my greatest mistakes were a result of booze. It takes at least a year to get to a point where you no longer miss it, but after that monkey is off your back, your life gets so much better.

Rock on brother 👍 I gave up alcohol 11 years ago and I don’t mis it at all. Everything you said about it is true. Authorities keep it on the market due to its addictive and destructive nature. It’s called spirits for a good reason.

Since people always act differently when under alcohol's influence, I think of it like a spirit possessing them. So yes, the name is a hint, :).

“Authorities” keep it legal because it’s a valuable taxable commodity. All you need to make liquor is yeast and fire. People are lazy, so distilleries exist.

I have finally decided to stop drinking. I am now at the end of day four. Have not gone this long without a drink for perhaps 5 years. I can't moderate myself, start drinking early everyday but what was worse is that although I can usually keep myself under control. Anytime there is a party or dinner with friends or the like I always take it too far. Talk a lot of shit, can be rude or antagonistic (even to strangers), fall all over the place or throw up. Happened again last Thursday and happens every couple of weeks. I've just had enough. Can't do it to my wife anymore nor continue to let my kids see me like that. Enough is enough. I'm done. Just at the beginning here but it is different this time. I am deadly serious.

The best argument against it, which you basically nailed, is that alcohol is always a net negative, in the long term. Any positive short term results are eventually outweighed by the enormously powerful negatives. Just some of the negatives that come to mind: broken relationships, dysfunctional parenting, ruined or hindered careers, legal troubles, etc. We would all be better off if we saw alcohol for what it really is and what it does. (And this is coming from someone who is not a teetotaler, or some overly judgmental moralist.)

Alcohol is weird. It's an indirect stimulant meaning that while it is mainly a CNS depressant, it also stimulates dopamine secretion. Ever notice how at the beginning of a drinking session the excitement is high and everyone is having a good time? That's the initial "high". As the party goes on you drink more and more chasing that initial buzz and excitement, but you never quite get there. You just get drunker and drunker in the quest for more dopamine. Its why so many are unable to regulate their drinking to a moderate amount. They're unknowingly chasing dopamine.
Studies have shown that men secrete more dopamine in response to alcohol than women, which is why men are less able to moderate and more likely to end up with alcohol related problems.

As someone with an addictive personality, and a former drug abuser, I can say that going the way of substance abuse is a dangerous path. Because addiction problems run in my family, I have taught my son (17 years old) to remember how much fun he had as a kid without substances; and that as an adult you have to find new creative ways to keep having fun. All the joy and fun is still stored inside, but it takes more and more work to get it to the surface as we learn more of the sinful nature that lurks in all mankind. Jesus said to be like children, which I think he meant as in faith towards our Fathers and Mothers, but I also think his words also apply here: Have fun, good, creative, clean fun. The Joy of the Lord is my strength!

If it was such an honest chemical, why does it damage your memory? It is also a depressant wich affects a balanced brain chemistry negatively. With long term regular abuse it also causes wet brain. Easy explanation it damages memory related brain function in otherwise healthy people. Its been recorded in people as young as early 20s causing them to function like someone with Alzheimer's. Adding to the theory(fact) it ages you faster.
I learned this in treatment. That was Oct. 2017. Its been over 5 years, I promise you on my family it gets easier and more rewarding with time.

Movies were a go to for me with a hangover, and opiates on the weekends. I was an alcoholic for a solid 7-8 years, a divorce shook me out of it to a degree. But yeah, I did some very stupid shit drunk and it really is quite miraculous I'm still alive. I literally woke up on the street in Osaka Japan one morning, just on the dirty pavement. I'd been pounding beers the night before, I remember very little. That was just embarrassing.
The PAWS (post addiction withdrawal syndrome) was brutal when I eventually did stop for a while. I was hungover for 3-4 months when I stopped drinking, that's how physically dependent I had become on alcohol. I thought I had a cold or something like that. It's incredible the lengths we go to to attempt to numb our pain. But it did seem to work for a while.

I don’t drink any alcohol but i find myself chasing the same fatty sugary high on a daily basis. I went carnivore for a few days eating beef and eggs and my body hated it. Humans are definitely not supposed to eat a lot of cholesterol, especially round the clock. It makes no biological sense. If you think about it, animals that you’d find while out hunting in the woods (deer, elk, etc) wouldn’t have nearly as much fat as a cow or pig. Cholesterol in saturated fat causes cancer, grains and legumes cause digestive problems, What the fuck do I eat!!!

I can relate to your early drinking experience, wish we could hang around those days, always stayed in the same personality while drunk for some reason. Anyhow, with age I began drinking less and less. First I quit beer, because it is a manliness killer and it gives me depression. Somehow I no longer needed the amounts of alcohol to get properly drunk as before, so this is also better for my body, less motivation to drink - less alcohol in my body. Then I started regretting wasted time, because wile drunk and hungover, I could not do anything meaningful. I never thought I would go this route. When I was in my 20s,
I thought I would always be a social drinker and be happy, but here I am. At this point, I only drink wine if someone offers, and it happens maybe once in 4 months. It does miracles for me, whine is my alcohol! Half of a wine glass knocks out all tiredness and stress from my head, I get lighter and happier, but not enough to cause me hungover. I may still get totally drunk twice or once a year, it is almost therapeutic, and I am totally happy with the amount I use. You like to over saturate facts, you know it. I noticed you also like to go with the extremes in limiting what you ingest, but alcohol is like sugar, you can't completely hide from it, but you have to embrace the fact, that occasional slip ups are insignificant to an already healthy body.

VP actually giving good advice. I did the same things when I was younger. beer was a once in a while thing but it was always gross the next day. weed was the safest bet. and we did mushrooms and lsd and peyote and stuff too on occasion. but then at 24 I quit all that shit for the better. my reasoning was because I was bringing a child into the world and didn't want to give a bad example of how to be. I smoked weed every day from when I was 14 to 24. but I would never even do that stuff anymore drinking or mushrooms or lsd or weed. even though its legal where I live. funny it was illegal the whole time I smoked it. then 2 years after it was decriminalized and then in 2016 is was made legal here. funny some of my friends still smoke. and they will be flashing that shit in public and I always feel like yo keep that shit down your gonna get us arrested. because when I stopped smoking in 2006 I am stuck in that loop of time. but yes its all not good learn to be happy sober. took me a long time to figure out even what normal people do to stay entertained than smoking weed every day. most of my friends I was in highschool with I used to smoke weed with. 20 of my friends moved on to heroin. and all of them that got into herion are dead now. I used to only hang with people that smoked weed which was surrounded by other illegal drugs at the time because it was illegal too. the dealers had all the different street drugs too. If I didnt have a kid I might have even gone down the path of my friends and died as well.

Also if your gonna have the fruit, I am under the impression that it is better to just eat some fruit, fruit juices are just eating all the sugar content of many fruit at the same time spiking insulin like crazy, I love them but I think they are as bad as alcohol, maybe worse because you think they are actually helpful/healthy. I mean, we know alcohol if had should be had in moderation and that it can be addictive, but juice? Same thing applies but ppl think it’s good for them(me included at one point).
    Cheers!

I have grown to hate the stuff. I now run several times a week and you can’t do that and drink. Getting healthier just exposes how shit a regular drinking habit makes you feel all the time. I can take just one glass of wine a couple of times a week. My body can process it fast enough at that level, but more than that and the damage builds faster than you can cope with. Resting heart rate goes up, performance goes down and you are constantly tired because it ruins restorative sleep. We moved to SE Asia a few years ago from the U.K. and the contrast in alcohol drinking is stark. Now see the expat bars full of drunks and think how weird it is that we do that to ourselves. When we are children we don’t need all these chemical props to feel good and have fun.

Vodka and pancakes with maple syrup. One of my fav breakfasts. For me if i do drugs and booze I get really lazy. But if I go sober too long that laziness comes back. It the in-between state of sobering up that I am most productive. Glad you found sobriety fun. It's like if your high long enough. Being sober is the new altered state you desire.

I stopped smoking cannabis when I went on Dr Morse's detox fruit protocol. I wasn't a big smoker, a joint a week. Within two months of the detox I woke up around 4am with the burnt taste of cannabis in my mouth, and thick brown/black mucus on my tongue. This continued for weeks. Never going back.

Nyishar did a good video explaining that alcohol has never been the same since this particular law about beer in Germany some hundreds of years ago. Alcohol has been designed and engineered to have these negative effects, but it needn't. I tend to think there are probably traditional forms of gruut and other wild-yeast fermentations which are probably more beneficial than not, in the right dose.

Alcohol also has 7 calories per gram almost as much as pure fat. Then you get the munchies and what do you end up craving? High carb and high fat foods, plus it makes it harder for your body to burn fat. It's like a triple whammy for fat gain.
