I would have done anything to have a 3 hour uncut interview of top dog with someone like Shawn Ryan, or Jocko. I think that would have been absolutely beautiful. RIP Top dog ❤️
People were getting killed in trenches literally as you were speaking about it, there are definitely still trenches. Its one of the oldest ways humans fight wars. Its easier to dig a trench than to build a fortress
Trenches protect from all directions but one and are only vulnerable from the sky, (drones, artillery, mortars, elevated 40mm fire, guided bombs, rockets and grenades). While an enclosed structure would be ideal, buildings take time and resources to build and when you're actively mobilized fighting the enemy its much more time/energy efficient and cost effective to dig a zig-zag trench.
There's no more trenches anymore that's like WW2. They said confidently, as trench warfare in Ukraine is actively happening. Also, Ukraine war has some CRAZY trench warfare footage coming out of it. Insane wild stuff that you realize no one will ever be the same from war.
I know a guy in his early forties that commanded one of those remote drone bases in Virginia. Dude had so much stress his hair started falling out. He was telling me it's a room with tons of screens with guys watching them and taking calls on getting authorization to bomb and guys on the ground there. A ton of stress every day, then going home at night to be a normal dad is wild hahaha
I graduated hs in 2000 and after 9/11 I was really close to serving. A bunch of my friends enlisted but I just couldn't do it. I'm proud of all my friends but I'm sure they weren't surprised I didn't. Not exactly ever been a fighter. Service like that requires a type of person that I just am not. Super grateful for those who served though.
Nearly joined the Australian Army in '07, went to the recruiting place and all that but ultimately decided not to and feel vindicated to this day as I am able bodied and healthy etc. Imagine being traumatised or wounded (or worse yet, killed) from your time in Afghanistan only to watch the country fall in 3 days in 2021. What a gigantic fucking waste of lives, time and money that entire thing was - Afghanistan: the millenial Vietnam.
Yah you were talking about how your dad always wanted to get back to his room or house where ever you went, always ready to leave and get back to safety
Trenches still exist BECAUSE of modern day precision munitions. Today, countries do not have enough soldiers to form a frontline with divisions abreast in the open field but if they did, a division of 10,000 personnel & thousands of vehicles would be a juicy opportunity for missiles & drones.
Neither of my Grandpa's talked about war. One of them was a radio man in the pacific so I get it, my other one was Army intelligence so he didn't get into combat and I didn't even know he served until the 21 gun salute at his funeral.
Sometimes people join the military as a last resort to get out of the shitty,no real hope towns that they're born and stuck in. It's why I did. I had to escape the only place that I know of named after a known cannibal. Marysville CA. Mary was a Donner party survivor. It's a place where your best chance at making a living is a job at Walmart or selling meth. The punchline of my joke is that when I was discharged, I went right back.
I actually think you can experience war and not be traumatized, it just takes an entirely different approach versus how we have conveniently done it of one day you’re in high school and 6 weeks later you’re watching hundreds of people die with no context or frame of reference. No shit it’s fucking jarring and traumatic.
There are trenches in Ukrainian. And they are using drones. The dichotomy between trench warfare and literal death drones flying around. At the end of the day it’s still men killing men and it’s wild to think about.
There's nothing that annoys me more than someone who doesn't read social cues of when to speak and when to listen. Sam definitely is one of these people. A lot of comics have this defect though because they're so insecure, they're constantly trying to get out their one liners for validation
When you guys were talking about how horrible it would be to be killed by modern weapons i thought about an episode of the vice series russian roulete documenting the war in ukraine. I used to think war movies played up the gruesome aspects of the battlefield for hollywood. Guys with their guts falling out screaming for mama and men having limbs blown off. And then i watched fhe episode in question, the reporter gets word that their was just a ukranian convoy that was ambushed by russian sepretist. Its not known how serious and if thier were any casualties but the way it was described by the ukranians made it seem like just another ho hum day in warfare. So the reoorter gets in his car and speeds off to the scene to see if maybe their are any left over debri or witnessing they can talk to. Who knows maybe their will be some blood on the ground or even a burned out humvee. Well let me just tell you what came next probably gave me mild ptsd. The reporter pulls up and immediately their is a chared tank still smolderings. Tbe reporters eyes are fixed on the tank when he notices birds circling around somtbhing up above. The camera pans up and we see a naked human body folded in half hanging from the electrical lines 40 feet up in the air. The birds are circling and no doubt taking bites of the soft tissue, eyeballs and such. This soldier was in a tank, his body was blown so high into the air that he is now draped on telephone wires like a bed sheet hung out to dry. The reporter than looks down at the tank and what at first appears to be just a big pile of melted metal and plastic turns out to actully have what appears to be a face. Oh it turns out this clump of mass was a human being an hour ago. He then looks to his left and sees the upper half of a human being laying on the ground. Wheres his lower half you might be asking well its there as well, except instead of looking the way you or my lower half looks like his pelvis hips thighs halfs and feet were turned into strings of spaghetti and they were just there makinb the soldier apear to be some kind o half man half jelly fish. I still to this day do not know who i would rather be. Guy whos bottom half turned to sphagetti, guy who turned into puddle of human remains or guy whos dangling from a highwire being eaten by birds.
People really need to tone down the use of "like" in their talking. It's as if I'm hearing finger nails on a chalkboard for the duration of the conversation.

No war story can compare to the time Tom was forced to check his bag at the airport. Truly a harrowing day.
😂
Never forget.
😂😂😂😂
Tom definitely lost touch with reality after top dog died.

I love it when Bert has these moments of deep thoughts, and when he’s someone completely different.
Burnt Chrysler didn't have friends like Tom in Comedy. He'd be in a studio apartment, divorced and working at carmax

I saw that video where that guy peeked the top of a trench and got shot in the face like 10 times. Shit was unreal.
Plenty of FOBs in Vietnam got just as much arty fire.
Ww2? You mean ww1

Top Dog is the best. Miss him.

Just don't make him check a carry on bag in.

Truly the toughest day in world history.
Tom knew a veteran, therefore he know PTSD better than anyone.
Tom the expert.
Tom's old lady finally looks hot again with the hair upgrade. MUCH BETTER. ❤

Shane Gillis is the only comedian I have respect for. A decorated veteran.
Lol great conversation. But if you take two seconds to watch some combat footage from wars this year there absolutely are still trenches
Finally we get a lucid explanation for why Tom is soooo frigging dark. Jesus
Only the dead have seen the end of war.
There is pretty extensive trench warfare going on in Ukraine right now, it's a total throwback.
Maginot line, but with artillery.
There are no trench warfare anymore right? hahaha
Meanwhile 500K Russians and Ukrainian soldiers: TF are you saying??!
"...tripped on a router"
It's not like those soldiers ever complain about how poor airport workers are

Well only 10% of everyone in the military see combat. Most of it is logistic personnel and administration.
Drone pilots actually have mad PTSD unless they’re total psychos… they can’t really cope through video games the same way other veterans can
