Awww. I definitely think it’s a win for whoever got it instead of me! They definitely deserve that spot!! It just wasn’t my time and im so at peace with that now! 🖤👏🏾
Definitely a win.. getting rejected backstage and then they meet you face-to-face only to apologize and literally beg to have you back… But this time it’s you doing the rejection!! Look what they missed out on!!! Love it!!! A lesson we must all learn from!! Tables can turn so quickly!!!
I genuinely cannot tell you what a surreal moment that was! I think it was so cool how honest of a conversation we were able to have! Ofc I couldn’t include it all in the video but they really did feel bad! BUT I don’t think they should do! I think the right candidate got it instead. It wasn’t my time and I wrote a fab personal statement but that other candidate wrote a Phenomenal one that was even more impressive. And that’s okay!!! I Think it’s healthy to go head to head with such expectational students etc. I just really wanted to know whyyyyyyy they’d rejected so I could do better for my next PhD applications. So that moment wassss just such a closure moment for me more than anything !! But I’m so happy for the students they chose instead of me and I’m so glad I had that gap year. So glad I got to experience the loss of that PhD place for me to realise JUST how much I wanted to do it. So many thoughts ahahah But yes! We still love NYU and I hope one day I can collaborate with that professor somehow because I’m still so in awe of them !
I appreciate the NYU professor for their honesty and acknowledging how incredible you are. As some ppl say, "rejection is redirection", and to see you happy as u r killing it at what u do without the need of an NYU affiliation is awesome. Clairmont is where it's at. And why apply again if there's still a risk of being waitlisted/rejected
Yeahhh i respected the professor for even having that conversation with me honestly!!! I really do. Like wow. I feel like it’s a full circle moment and feel so happy in knowing this and moving on! I still love NYU !!! But I’m so excited for Claremontttttttt
@@drveekativhu I’m happy you’re excited Vee. As a fellow Zimbo, inotidadisa nema achievements ako. That’s what I like about America is that u can get a good education anywhere.
That’s a huge win! The professor remembered your personal statement over a year after reading it, and that’s with all the applications they have to go through.
this is such an amazing story. i just got rejected to my dream school one week ago, and i know exactly how you’re feeling! i put my heart and soul in my application and worked on it for hoursss. it’s so good that you got closure and it makes me think about how being rejected doesn’t mean at all that you’re not qualified, sometimes there’s just something better out there that you can’t see yet❤
Aww sorry to hear that about your dream school! And of course! Rejection doesn’t mean you’re not qualified. It just means there was someone else at that moment in time that they felt pulled to More than you! But if it had been another day. Another year. Another moment. It may have been you! And that’s so comforting to know! So keep going pleaseeeeeeee
Let’s go Claremont!! We still love NYU! They made the right decision for them and sadly I wasn’t the right candidate! But it’s. A growing moment and a wonderful life lesson for me !🖤🖤
I agree. I think it’s amazing to know you were close because like you said I would rather be super close but didn’t get it than completely not considered. Everything happens for a reason. Well done Vee !!!
I would definitely be happy to hear that and it would silence all of the doubts and negative self-talk. But you made the right choice by turning them down!! You are one of the most amazing people that I know and it was definitely their loss
Proud of you Vee. This is a win for you. One thing I just learnt is contacting schools that rejected my application to find out why. Even though I got enrolled elsewhere, it would have been good to know why. Thanks for sharing
I’ve learned that once you set your mind on something, life tends to throw a curve ball to test your decision. I am proud of you for sticking to your decision and glad you got the closure you were seeking. Looking forward to continue following your journey 🫶🏽
Well done to you. The experience validates you, but more importantly, you are going where you are purposed to be. It is definitely their loss, and they must be kicking themselves hard. God's continued blessings on your new venture
girl God really sent a message through a human to you like i believe in God even more after this yes this is tea like vee its crazy how you always at the right place at the right time love it for you
I think hearing that would make me reconsider everything, but if I was in your position I'd do the exact same thing. You can still work with the NYU professor in some capacity, it just might be different from what you originally wanted.
I get that!!! I would be really happy 😆 a full circle moment. The fact that you were in the same room as the Prof. Is validation that you are on your path✨
Thank you for this video. I was recently waitlisted then rejected for a Ph.D. program so this really encouraged me to apply to more programs this year.
Also Vee, could we perhaps get a glimpse of what this personal statement looks/sounds like? because the way you and the admissions officers and the professor describe it, im sold.
I love how you are taking it… I think I would take it same way. Maybe you can always collaborate some day. They can always mentor you or it’s also amazing that they connected you to others
Firstly, everything happens for a reason. Rejection truly is redirection as you have demonstrated here. Secondly, Reapply?!?!?! No way, its their loss, I'm glad you're doing even better and still occupying rooms with these people. The lady you spoke too can definitely still be a mentor I'm sure. Keep flying high girl!! xxxxxx

Honestly them rejecting you is THEIR loss, if they couldn't see the type of student you are in the beginning then it's messed up to think you would still want to go there after the fact
Awww bless you! But honestly I think it’s more about them having had so many good candidates and we were all equally deserving so then the one who got it was definitely most deserving!!! It’s not easy and they were really really good from the sounds of it!! I’m just so happy to have closure now! It wasn’t my time and that’s okay!
Awwww. Still a win!! Keep that e-mail, who knows what the future will bring. The academic world is small and you may well have the opportunity to work with them in the future!
I feel like I would be happy knowing how close I was to achieving my goal. Just like what you said- knowing that I do have what it takes would make me so confident!
This reminds me so much of a friend of mine who was desperate to get into any London uni for her PhD. She didn’t get in but got into a very good Scottish university with a PhD with a year in industry. Redirection at its finest as she loved it.
Thank you so Vee for sharing. Your experience shows how many times the dice can roll. You are on the right track. Go Claremont and congratulations Ph.D newbie 💃. I am luckily finishing up the PhD journey already and I wish you all the best. Make the journey yours and enjoy every piece of it!😘
Good luck! ... Well, I totally agree with you about getting feedback. (By the way, I'm not from the US or the UK; I'm from the EU). I earned my PhD in 2018 and applied for jobs like crazy. No feedback. Nothing. Zero. No one wanted to hire me, despite the fact that I was a straight-A student and a graduate. I achieved top grades on my PhD thesis and exam. All employers ignored me and nobody was willing to give me a chance. Rejection after rejection without receiving any feedback. 60 rejections in row. Even my PhD supervisor hired some people with low qualifications secretely behind my back and he was fully aware of the fact that I had the best qualification for these jobs. He never told me about it in order to get rid of me. Cheers!
Vee, first of all, congratulations on everything you've achieved so far, excited to see your life at Clairmont! Secondly, I totally agree with you! Them bringing up the one-year-ago situation trying to make you apply again? Your life doesn't go around NYU! You have a great university you're moving to in a couple of months, a great phd program, starting this new chapter of your life that was meant to be!! The best thing you did was moving on, and this was indeed a beautiful closure to this old chapter :) it was really unprofessional of them to beg you to do everything again, as if you don't have anything else going on in your life right now haha a year later!!
First of all I went through so many emotions watching this 😅. I believe in God's timing. Walk through the doors He has opened for you. I'm glad you finally got closure on what happened at NYU. It's not by mistake that you spoke to that person, I'm sure your paths will cross again. Also, this is the type of piping hot tea 🍵 I signed up for!
Awww Thank youuuuuu!!! Im really glad to know that ! Coz It was piping hot tea to me too!!!! But yes I went through lots of emotions too. I was like whatttttt. This is crazyyyyyyyyyy
girl, if you really did submit a good personal statement, plus you backed that up with your experiences and credentials (like really stellar achievements for your age), and they wouldn't give you a feedback on something as career-defining as a PhD application, I would just like think it's a THEY problem, not a YOU problem... now comes the professor part. he met you in a room full of professionals and educators and reputable people. we don't know if everything he said in your exchange was true to the tee, but im glad you've got the closure you wanted. also glad it's you who rejected them this time. ain't no way they're gonna be asking you to reconsider if you hadn't shown them (him) who Vee Kativhu is, the resolve she has and the power she holds. their loss.
For me i would i would ask them to keep in touch if they wanted to. because i think expanding ones connection is important even though Vee you have them... its good to always have another set of eyes outside clemont but thats just my opinion. but i am glad that you had closure in the end.

Love you, too, Vee. Wow, that was such a big moment. I can't imagine how surreal it must have been meeting that person and meeting them in such an important space. God works in mysterious ways. I'm so glad NYU gets to help expand your network at Claremont. I love how you don't sit on your heels. You literally go on and look for the next best opportunity, which is the case with Claremont. Now, it's countdown to PhD journey 🫰🫰🫰
One question did you pray about it? I am a firm believer that God's timing is not our own. Remember that God will give you the desires of your heart, and prepare a table for you. I see people saying this is your way of rejecting them, what if this is his plan? You are bypassing a fully funded program to go to a program where you have to find funding. Pray and ask God.
