Honestly I don't blame Charlie for leaving. The extended family were being insensitive, Jane expecting Charlie to just put up with it was not helpful, and he was probably to stressed to ask Tori to come with him. He was just trying to make sure he didn't hit that low again
I feel so bad for him in that episode and I was so mad that his mum did nothing to help soothe out the situation. But I’m so glad Toni had his back and Nick too
As much as he didn’t want to worry Tori He could have invited her after he felt safe instead of her having to find him on his own Bc as much as she is older, she is still affected by the same parents and familial relationships and he should also think to look out for her once in a while
Charlie's relatives are very ignorant about what eating disorders entail and about the kind of place where Charlie was staying. They talk about the illness as though he was in a car accident one day, got injured, went to a hospital and is now completely fixed up (back to normal as though nothing ever happened). This is so incredibly far from the truth. The stay at the eating disorder hospital was just to get him started on the road to recovery. It entails checking on his malnutrition and giving medical treatment to reverse that; finding out the root causes of his OCD + ED, and beginning to learn strategies to cope with the triggers that lead to the unhealthy behavior and thought processes. Going home does not mean he's "all fixed up"; it means that now he has to continue with therapy and learn to apply what he's learning to the greater context of being in his family and the community. He is still in recovery. He has a long way to go. And it's not a case of being "back to normal"; Normal was not what was 'back there' in the past --- he's still working on moving ahead so that his future is healthier. The relatives also talked about his hospital stay as a stay in a psychiatric facility for "crazy people." Strait jackets etc. * * * On one channel, the Reactor thought that Charlie's mom should not have even told the relatives about Charlie's medical issues, since she knew how they were and how they reacted to stuff like that. * * * My thoughts about how Charlie's parents were dealing with Charlie had to do with issues of family therapy. His dad seemed to be making an effort to talk things over with Geoff. He is the one keeping track of Charlie's meal book. He found out from Geoff that feeling stressed on Christmas was normal. And Dad told Charlie about that, so Charlie would feel less stressed. Dad even learned the special breathing techniques just in case he needed to do them along with Charlie. His mom was under a lot of stress herself because the relatives were from her side of the family and they were ignorant and judgmental. She was making an effort but she has not been taught strategies that would really be helpful for Charlie. Some therapists have the parents come in for sessions so they can learn what things add to stress and which things can reduce the stress. (As you can recall, Nick's aunt emphasized that Nick should avoid the conversations about food or weight.) Unfortunately, Charlie's mom had not been taught that in sessions with the therapist, so her immediate reaction to Charlie's stress was to push more food at him and to talk about his not eating everything on his plate. Charlie had even asked her not to push food at him. And when she did it anyway, he told her that was not helping. If she had been educated about these issues, she would not have kept at it. And since there was no respite in sight, it was reasonable for Charlie to extricate himself from all the triggers. (Remember that the triggers were what could lead him to self-harm. He was actually protecting himself from that) So leaving to go to a place where he felt safe, such as Nick's house with welcoming, unjudgmental people was a healthy thing to do. [Yes, Nick's jerk of a brother was there, but we saw that if Nick left the brother alone to sulk about the absentee father, the brother's ignorant rants could be avoided.] * * * Yes, it was tragic that Tori was left alone to fend against the relatives. But the solution to that was not an easy one. It is easy for us to say -- Charlie should take her along. But Charlie was already weighed down with all the strategies he was trying to use to keep from falling more ill and more self-destructive. It would have been helpful if Tori just went to Nick's place on her own --- and eventually she did. The problem with tagging along with Charlie was that Tori did not really know Nick's extended family, so Nick would have to take care of both Charlie and Tori at the same time. That would be difficult for everyone. BUT it did work out when Tori went to Nick's house later on. Charlie had had a chance to fit in, in the safer environment and get emotional sustenance from Nick, first. It would have been nice if Tori felt she did not have to wait all afternoon before joining them. It would have been helpful if she and Charlie made an agreement that he would go over first and then in, say, an hour Tori could join him there. Charlie could have been able to explain the situation to Nick before she got there, so Nick could be emotionally/socially prepared for her visit. Although Charlie can communicate with both Tori and Nick, under normal circumstances -- at the point when he was getting ready to bail on his own house, he could barely explain his thoughts beyond one sentence. And the thoughts were all centered on protecting himself, which is what he is supposed to do while recovering. Until later in the day, the best Charlie was able to do was apologize to Tori, acknowledging that she, in fact, treated him as other than mentally ill. * * * I noticed that on New Year's Eve, the 'do-over' day, Charlie, Tori, and Nick socialized much more easily and it seemed as though Charlie and Tori had reconciled and were on better terms. 💖💜💙
Love the show, love you, love your reactions, love your authenticity, love your community here. Thank you for being generous with your beautiful spirit. May it be returned to you hundred fold! And, Happy Birthday!💜
Kit too obviously, but Joe acted his ass off this season. He really leveled up. I’m not sure if you’re into Marvel, but Joe was great in Agatha All Along on Disney+.
Just came out as BI this year being subscribed here is like joining a new family that cares so much 🩷 thank you for making me feel appreciated and loved 😊
Happy Birthday, queen!! 🥳🎂 I found this safe, joyous nook of the internet through your positions reaction and have been here ever since. Thank you for always being yourself and creating content that you truly feel happy creating. Not to mention how beautiful of a soul you are, always standing for what's right and using your platform for good. Have a happy birthday and holiday, and I wish you and all your loved ones lots of love 🤍❤️
Ma’am I love your reaction to shows like this when I first watched this series I def teared up a bit, it’s such a relatable show. When you get the chance you should def react to “Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe” it’s based on a book. I’ve been pushing creators to react to it so maybe we can get a sequel😊 glad you’re okay you don’t have to apologize for the lack of talking you’re going through the motions and that alone speaks a lot❤
Nick crying at the party with Tao just destroyed me and does so every single time i watch it. It's vital to remember that supporters also need support. I grew up in an age where mental issues were viewed as something to be thoroughly ashamed of and were to be kept buried inside the sufferer and never spoken of. I'm forever grateful that today, mental illness is rightly treated the same as physical ill-health. Our world will be a better place when stigma and shame become things of the past. The younger generation still has many obstacles to conquer, but society, as a whole, is moving in the right direction - from the darkness into the light!
Happy Birthday Maya!!!!! I hope you’re enjoying your birthday and have the best rest of your day. Have a Merry Christmas and have a happy new year!!!! LOVE YOU!!!!! 💙🫂💜
honestly it caught me off guard and he probably could’ve said it another day that was not really the time. but i think he definitely had good intentions lol
I guess I'm the only one here, but the person I pity the most is Jane Spring. Don't get me wrong, I don't take sides, I feel with Charlie and Tori as well. Poor Jane.
literally the perfect show i swear to god

I want some insight. Was I wrong for being mad at Issac when he said he was mad at Charlie ? When he said that, my jaw dropped.
