The Years of Decay is a top 10 greatest thrash albums of all time. Those massive riffs, Gustafson’s perfect guitar tone, those ripping solos. Absolute masterpiece. Gustafson is insanely underrated.

Nah, that album was sub-par as is every album without Bobby. But the last few with Dave Linsk on lead guitar are their best since The Years Of Decay. His lead style is the closest to Bobby's out of all the guitarists they've had since, but his songwriting isn't on the same level.

A bad-ass heavy rock/metal guitarist (like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton (in his days with Cream), Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, EVH, Randy Rhoads, Dimebag, Jerry Cantrell, to name some of the best) can do that. I love two guitar metal bands too, but there's something about a great one guitar band that really stands out.

This makes me want to dig out my Rat Skates Born in the Basement DVD. Bobby hints at this here, but the amount of hard work involved in promoting and stage show and rehearsing, etc is mind boggling and it’s covered in depth on that DVD. The first Overkill song I ever heard was In Union We Stand. I was never a good guitar player, but the song that inspired me to try was Hello From the Gutter. I bought the Years of Decay 6 times because I wore out 5 cassettes. I loved Horrorscope but was always aware that it took two guitars to fill the space Bobby G vacated. Overkill was never the same without him, a lot like Metallica was never the same after Cliff died.

I went to see Overkill at a community center or Unitarian church (or some other strange non-rock venue like that - I forget exactly what type of facility it was since I'd never been there before or since) in Ventura, CA in 1987 - my friend's band Dark Carnival opened for them. Speed/thrash metal wasn't very popular in that area (or most other places) at the time, so there were only like 12 people there (including some of the members of the opening band and their girlfriends) I was a pretty big Overkill fan, so I felt embarrassed for the band. They still kicked ass and played with just as much intensity as they would have to a packed house though - very professional. Anyways, I had visited my aunt in Jersey a month or two prior and bought an Overkill Feel The Fire t-shirt at a rock t-shirt booth at an indoor swap meet I went to with my uncle, so of course I wore it when I went to see them. After the second or third song, Bobby Blitz looked out into the (tiny) crowd and saw my shirt and said "Well, at least we have one fan here!" Lol It was fucking great.

Awesome to hear Bobby’s insights. I only wish in was a longer more in depth interview. Being a guitar player myself, I would love to hear about Bobby’s gear, amps and guitars. For me when I transitioning from listening to kiss into metal (metallic, slayer, testament and overkill) I came across the years of decay album. It literally hanged my life. I know that’s a cliche but it is what happened. I’m a MASSIVE ‘kill fan to this day. The band had gone through lots of changes over the years but the lineup of Gustafson, Verni, Blitz and Falk is still my fav by far. Every single tune on the years of decay is a thrashterpiece imo. God damn I cannot say enough about it. Not only are Bobby’s solos masterful, his riffage is second to none. Also I believe he wrote 90% or more of that album, which is just baffling. Tremendous respect to Bobby! Great to see he is back at it!

@ Violence Vocalist was the best . Have Mercy , Hyksos , early Savage Grace , Trauma , Lord's of the New Alliance , Living Death , Hyrax , Wrath , and of course Toxic , Those singers along with Violence are the best in all history . A forced falsetto , with no voice control whatsoever is where it's at . Metal is more intense with unhinged screaming vocals ( especially if it's a man who can't really sing) . Too much slick over produced Metal. Even though the album Taking Over is easily the most simple basic material of the Overkill catalogue , it is my favorite because it also contained Bobby Ellsworth's most unhinged aggressive screaming vocals

Yeah, I don’t know. Podcast or interview, he’s still asking questions and then immediately cutting the guy off and answering for him. It’s pretty weird.

Bobby made overkill with those first 4 albums, 85 percent of overkills set list are off those first 4 albums still to this day , they seriously fucked up getting rid of Bobby, none of their albums compare to the first 4 albums, horrorscope is the only one that comes close
