  • Transportation reporter David Slotnick flew on a nearly 20-hour flight from New York City to Sydney. The Qantas Airways route was a test to see how the world's longest flights affect the human body. David was one of just 40 passengers on board to participate in the first experimental flight.

@@theregalproletariat Your comment is completely contradictory.. you first said that this flight was with a business class and all that, then you said they needed to know if people can go that long.. I don't think the average person can afford that, and I don't think that a person with all that food, 8 hours of sleep basically like you were in your own bed, and movies to keep you entertained, can even feel 20 hours imo

Economy shouldn't even be an option for that flight. That's just brutal. Instead of meals you get a snickers bar. No leg room. No where to move around. And you have to sleep sitting up. No thank you.

Ive been on some long flights with Qantas in economy, and I’m definitely smaller than average so space isn’t usually a problem for me, but I know for some people space on short haul flights is an issue for them so a 16 hr flight would be pretty hardcore. but the food is usually pretty good generally (pretty much a business class meal but presented less attractively?) plus i cant really sleep on planes so i just watch movies and eat the mars bars 🤷‍♀️

    • @ric66521

Normally on long haul flights you got served 2 meals. I took only red eye long haul flights. So for me it was always a dinner 1 hour after take off and a breakfast 2 hours before landing. Also during the flights some people walk on the aisle to stretch their body.

They already explained they wont have a full cabin as that would weigh the plane down a lot, which will make the plane not able to do that distance. The tickets are supposed to be higher priced to make up for the lack of seats, and there will 99.9% of the time be no babies if you were to take this flight as people who pay for that ticket at that high price most likely will not bring babies on board.

    • @LittleLuckyLotus

ChikęnNōōgetBoî while the plane wouldnt be fully packed, they would still need to balance out the plane. So it does bring up a good point about seating. My guess is that they would likely have to transform all seats to be better than economy (maybe not first class but at least with a functioning bed and elbow space) cause otherwise this flight would be torture in economy, even if you are not packed in there with tons of people

    • @Zahrul3

Besides, I’m pretty sure the editors would get pissy if they had to deal with what us common folk do- like crying babies and back pains because we can’t afford luxury airfare when we can barely afford healthcare.

Every summer I would always have to fly 13 hours to Taiwan to visit family in economy class and every time I would literally feel like dying. Until this one time I got to fly first class for 13 hours, and even though I couldn't sleep for some reason, it was 100000x easier. It was way more quite, you literally got some sort of custom headphones that literally cancelled the annoying loud airplane noises that woke you up every 20 minutes, literally you could order anything from a menu including fast foods, and I literally didn't want to sleep since there were so many features. So yes try economy class where your squished on the window seat fighting for an armrest against your sibling with literal prepackaged food, and the person behind you with there window open with the sun in your eyes.

Airbus has considered stretching the a350-1000 to a further amount of 4 meters, and since the -1000 version is already stretched offering 440 max seats in a 3 class config, they potentially fit up to 300 seats (just by taking an educated guess) in there if everything was just business and first-class. I’m a flight attendant myself and I fly transatlantic flights (currently working on a KLAX-LIFR flight), and on these flights we fly in widebody aircraft’s (primarily B777 & B787), and within these aircraft in the back of the plane we have crew quarters; we would usually have a four-six hour sleeping period depending on how long the flight is, and this is when you’re wrong. We’re never overworked on a flight due to the fact that we can sleep whenever our block (shift) is over during that time within the flight.

Even 3 hours in a car is tough because you're eating fast food or gas station food, there's only so many activities to do in a car, and most families have cars that hold the amount of people in the family so if everyone is in the car, it's super crowded and you have no leg room *at all.* Not to mention the uncomfy sleeping. Interesting because they already do all of these things for the flights from the West Coast of the US to Australia. I used to live in Los Angeles and Melbourne and flew many times between the two. The flights 15 hour flight to Australia always boarded at night, then they served you dinner around midnight, then all cabin lights went off and you went to sleep (finally because by then it was very late), then the crew opened all the windows, turned on the bright lights, served you breakfast and you landed. It was always easy for travel to Australia because they did that routine and got you onto the local Aus time during the flight. This was ten years ago and I flew Qantas and Virgin both.

Xanax, eye cover and earplugs. You will sleep like a baby. I would also recommend 400mg Quetiapin if you have a tolerance for Xanax. Quetiapin will definitely put you to sleep whether you like it or not. My partner takes both. She is as helpless as a baby once she is asleep. Last years April fools I changed her clothes while she slept. Changing clothes on someone is actually cumbersome. Who knew? It was not as easy as changing clothes on a baby.
She knew just the right words to nuke that joke from orbit: "I trust you completely, honey". That is quite a turn on but it killed the joke.
Not sure what I will do this April fools. Think I will just skip it. That trust thing made me feel guilty. Maybe a joke when she is awake. Any ideas? Im thinking hot sauce.
(We pull jokes on each other). She threw a doll in the same clothes as our baby from the second floor. She has a twisted sense of humor. Have never run so fast to catch a doll.
Anyway remember the medication names. Im talkative today. Maybe she spiked my tea again. That is cheating! Not April fools yet!
