I lovvvvvveee this nazm so much and I loved your interpretations of the second line! Here’s my take on it: The sher “mere kamre main kitabon ky siva kuch nahi hy” I believe he is not just talking about the physical absence of material things. He’s saying that there’s nothing else in his room that holds the same "value" as the books. Material things are ordinary and insignificant for Jaun Elia Sahab, therefore he rejects his lovers wish to “decorate his room” and only books matter to him, and nothing else comes close to their significance in his life. Similarly, in the opening lines, when he says “meri tanhai main khawabon ke siva kuch bhi nahi” he’s expressing how in his isolation and solitude and pain the only things left of significance are his dreams. Much like the books, the dreams are all that's left for him in emptiness. He continues and says “in kitaabon ne bohot zulm kiya hai mujh par” meaning that the very thing he values-books-has also become a source of torture for him. (which makes me sooo incredibly sad, bechara 😭) The knowledge and secrets are too much for him to bear. ”zindagi main kabhi aram nahi pa sakta” His books and dreams he loves and values so much also torment him, leaving him with the realisation that he may never find peace. Love your videos man, always wakes up this shayar in me 😞
TH-cam gods blessed me when this channel was recommended to me last week. Obviously now I am hooked. I eagerly await your videos. Please keep doing this.
Jaun absolute fav!! "mere kamre mein kitabo k siwa kuch bhi nahi" i mean isnt that a dream lolll😅 Ok but beautifully explained, Kumail bhai. Just Brilliant! So what i derive from that line is that all he has in his rooms are books, smth which isn't 'living', smth that apparently has no sentimental value either. For example, a picture in a room can be a family portrait or whatever. But books are just lifeless, they dont really hold any memory (even tho I'd personally disagree with this since if someone gifts you a book, that gift will always remind you of that person but yea i get Jaun's perspective here as well) . So what he implies is that his room is uhh 'devoid' of any life whatsoever. It's just too DEAD. No words!
To be honest, mainay shayad Ahmad Javaid sahab ki aik aadhi video hee dekhi hai Jaun Sahab par. Zyaada sun'nay ka mouqa nahi mila. Lekin jahan tak mein samjha hoon Ahmad sb ka mouqaf yeh hai keh Jaun kay mushairon nay unki asli shayari ko bohat nuqsaan pohanchaya hai and that Jaun the performer was much less of a poet that Jaun the poet. Iss baat mein wazn zaroor hai aur iss baat ko kayi aur naqideen nay bhi duhraaya hai. Meri nazar mein yeh Jaun sahab ki bewaqoofi nahi balkeh aik bohat bari khoobi thi keh woh aik taraf urdu shayari kay baray naqideen ka bhi dil jeet letay thay aur dosri taraf aik aam shakhs ko bhi apnay ash'aar say mehv kar laitay thay (aur aaj tak kar rahay hain). Jaun sb aik bohat waseeh shayar aur insaan thay. Jis tarah Mir kay baaray mein Shamsur Rahman Faruqi sahab nay kaha keh Mir ka waseeh hona aur har tarah kay sher kehna Mir ki khoobi na keh khaami thi. Issi tarah meray khayaal say, ba-sad ahteraam, yeh baat Jaun sahab kay liye bhi durust saabit hoti hai. ❤
