Today I am joining forces with my buddy @Frostin_Austin in a 1v1 $20 budget fishing challenge in the creek. We smoked the fish, but during the heat of the action I made an almost deadly mistake when I reached in to grab what I thought initially was a non venomous species of snake. Cole...son... you're not a single guy with nothing to lose any more. Leave the snakes alone to crawl as God intended.... Up to this point, there is no doubt you've already picked up all the snakes you need to. If you live to be 100 and never touch another snake you will have missed... nothing.
Seriously... I have a son who loves fishing but can't watch your videos because you're always grabbing snakes. My son doesn't know the difference between venomous and non-venomous snakes, but he does copy the things he sees on video.
@@macroman91 I've always steered clear. Years ago I did a lot of 'tube' fishing in ponds, a friend carried a small pistol with rat-shot as a precaution. Once a cottonmouth slid off a log and in his direction... he quickly pulled out his trust personal protector and promptly shot a hole in his tube🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can still hear him yelling over the PSSSSSSSSSSST

Tell your buddy, Eating those Grasshoppers are just as Deadly as that Cottonmouth that you picked up. I know of a guy who ate Grass Hoppers & pulled a 3ft Tapeworm out of his Rectum. (They carry parasites bigtime).

Love your content. I've been a subscriber since you started this channel. I've watched your channel grow, as well as your family. PLEASE don't pick up a snake, unless you absolutely know that it is non-venomous. I have a lot of them on my property where the beavers have the pond dammed up. Water moccasins are nothing to play with!!! Glad you're safe!!!

I grew up in California, with a passion for catching snakes. I almost made the mistake of grabbing a baby rattlesnake while hunting for bait, which fortunately I didn't, but a similar situation.
Congratulations on winning the contest! Some nice bowfin for sure. Eating a grasshopper would have been no big deal for me, for I grew up eating them and crickets...anyway nice video!

Cool idea!!!! I dig the challenge!! That's my kind of fun!! Went out yesterday on my own for a birthday trip. Poinsett was the spot & it was tough at times but I had a great time. Best bite came on a Zman Big TRD in green pumpkin. The best bite happened when I reeled in really fast and they chased it back to the boat. There was a couple of guys at the ramp that saw me do it & started laughing because they thought I was applying a Muskie technique 😂. Crappie were deep and only wanted minnows. I finished at 11am. Met some new friends and ended up at Chilli 's for lunch and adult beverages. I don't have to tell you Cole,.... how bad that could have been. Had some close calls myself with a couple in the fishes mouth and never saw it till I let the fish go. Wouldn't hurt to take a snake bite kit with you just in case. I keep one now myself because....... they straight up hate me so bad I need to 😜

Great video as usual. I was surprised though how small the bowfin our down in your area. I catch bowfin quite often up here in New York State when I’m fishing for Pike and bass,, and I don’t think I’ve ever caught a bowfin less than 6 pounds. I did have the New York State record for a bowfin quite a few years ago, but has since been beaten.
There's some tanks in there. We only fished an hour and a half or so and didn't get to properly fish it thoroughly. I think all the fish are thicker in NY! Haha

(About the only snake I pickup "bare-handed" is Mud Snakes and big 'Rattlers, 'cause Mud Snakes DON'T Bite, and big 'Rattlers are too heavy to come back up on themselves!). Haha!
Aww don't feel bad Cole..I did something dumber ..I eas chasing hummingbird s across they desert 🏜 to get better pictures 📸 jumping from rock to rock 🪨 without paying attention and jumped onto the tail of a rattle snake 🐍 that then bit me..lesson? Always look before you leap.😊
I wrangle cottonmouths all the time and only a few times I've grabbed them without properly identifying them first. I did it once last year, you can actually see the vid on my channel. And the most notable time was at night when I spotlighted an olive colored snake with black markings in a ditch and thought it was a Diamondback Water Snake and jumped in and grabbed it, only to see I just grabbed a cottonmouth and quickly threw it out my hands. In fairness it was in an area that is not known for cottonmouths so it caught me by surprise.
Yeah that was definitely the first of thousands I've wrangled without iding it first. Shook me up a bit!!

Dang, that was close! It don't take long for you to look at a cottonmouth! Wanna borrow my snake grabber when you go out to that area again? Bass are great, but for the hardest fight of my life, I'll say bowfin every time! They don't stop, even when they're already landed! Great video!

a friend of mine her son like about hes 8 got bit by a cottonmouth they live near wapello so went to the nearest hospital he had a reaction to the anti-venom so they went to childrens in Little rock they treated him with the correct anti venom and he was in the hospital for 2 days went home no problems since her lesson is shes going to childrens if anybody gets bit again
My brother had a similar story. He got bit on his foot wading around the buffalo river in the dark

Cottonmouth isn't really "deadly"
Cole, just a WILD video!!!!! I know one person that will never pick-up a snake, that person is ME!!!! I can hunt in areas where I know there is snakes, but when I see one close, I freakout!!
