Brilliant video this Kev. Never remember doing any local history in school and still don’t know if they teach any local history so these videos are brilliant to inform and learn from. Sad story on so many levels all round and as you mentioned a lot of the themes are still present to this day. Makes it even more important it’s told in an informative and balanced way which was enjoyable to watch 👍🏻

    Great subject matter Kev.
When I was at Uni, we studied the Peterloo Riots in Manchester, 16/08/1819…it was about votes, who can vote, FREESPEECH and oppression!
People were killed. And it aligns with todays problems, it’s ironic it was called a ‘Reform’ rebellion!
60,000 people attended. Yet the Manchester folk try and keep it forgotten!
If it had happened in Liverpool, they’d still be reporting it today!
We’re heading in the same direction due to illegal migrants clogging up the Hospitals, Housing and Employment…
    Thanks mate.

Well done for retelling this little piece of Liverpool history. Similar riots happened all over the country around about that time - Cardiff, Glasgow, Hull, South Shields, etc. Race definitely had something to do with it but these things are never about just one thing alone. There was immense poverty, competition for jobs, feelings of betrayal and resentment towards the authorities and the people who they saw as usurping their position in their town by having their jobs, housing, women, etc,. Like Charles, some of these black men had served in the military and put their lives on the line for King and country just like they did and the ones that didn’t were in the towns to maintain the economy whilst the local men were away not being able to work in local industries. The real causes of these things are never addressed and the authorities always like to pit working class people against each other because if they unite they are a fearsome force.

Wow, brilliant Kevin. What a sad story ,This should be part of local schools history lessons. The plaque definitely needs to be put back or a new one installed. This tragic event needs to be remembered in one of the cathedrals or the local Church by way of another plaque. We were slowly losing stories like this ? Plaque helps in prompting people to research. Thank you, and it was extremely well presented.

Very informative and interesting. Rivalry for jobs and accommodation was a major factor in racial disharmony following both WW1 and -2. Another factor, and one which persisted throughout the 1950s when I still lived in Liverpool (Grafton Street, Liverpool 8) was the rivalry for the affections of women. Most of the men who came from the colonies came alone. As such, their only opportunity for sex and romance was with local women. As one West Indian told me, the attitude of many British people at the time was that no white woman could ever love a black man. She had to be a prostitute. The Lloyd George government had spoken of 'Homes fit for Heroes' for those returning from WW1. It turned out to be another example of Government BS. Incidentally, women who had been working in predominantly male occupations (buses, factories, etc.) during the war, lost their jobs when the men returned. Another cause of discontent.

Thank you so much for this in such a respectful manner.
I don’t know if you will see this but in case you do……You now have a new subscriber. This really resonated with me. My grandfather came from a family who traditionally were all mariners and sailors. I grew up being told of stories like this one. Everyone on the ships were very tight looking out for each other.
When he told me about this poor gentleman who lost his life there were tears s in his eyes. He said he was innocent of any crime. As a child I could see he was upset but as an adult I can understand how this incident disturbed and distressed him.
A little known fact and another story he told me is that many sailors would raid ships and free men who were still be sold into slavery. This happened later than people think. They would get them jobs on board the ships to protect them and enable them to either get home or the crew would help them by raising money to get their families to the UK to safety. There are records of this online newspaper articles from the time if anyone wants to authenticate what I am stating.
May Charles Watton rest in peace.

KC, its not black and white your right, its about 'right and wrong. We need to focus and concentrate on who "is behind all this.' Great film mate, do some research on the three jurisdictions of L.A.W. The Land, the Air and the Water. How the jurisdiction of the water is :contracts and corporations" and that is what we all come under/are controlled by. Find out how to get out of the water and back "on to the land" and be able to "stand in your own sovereignty." It will start to make sense of all the bollocks from the past and the present that we see and smell a rat about Keep up the great work mate.

He used to tell us some terrible tales of childhood poverty and how hard life was upto WW2 where he served in the merchant navy like so many lads from Liverpool, because of the lack of work. I was always interested in his stories. Now I'm wondering what he knew about this one?

Interesting story and any loss of life is awful....but thousands of innocent young men got sent to that needless war called World War One and lost their lives. I can totally understand riots taking place because the ones that survived came home to have their jobs taken by foreign workers. What you fail to mention it was not just Carribean workers taking their jobs,it was also Chinese,Arabs and Russians taking those jobs. Also, the same happened in many places including Cardiff and Salford. We can blame the war mongering government of the time for this. Incidentally there was an element of copy cat rioting going on as it was happening in Chicago at the same time. The lesson we must learn from this is..we must look after our own people first. Those incidents will be repeated soon if we dont stop mass uncontrolled immigration and put a stop to all the illegal boat crossings. A disaster waiting to happen.

    • @jujutrini8412
      @jujutrini8412 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

I think the lesson that should be learned is to not be manipulated by the government to fight other working class struggling people. The government and the rich are ones that causes all the problems for working class people. They are the ones that don’t want to pay people decent wages. They are the ones hiring illegal immigrants. They are the ones who should be punished for doing so!

Very sad tragic story of racism & that memorial needs putting back in place of honour for Charles. However Kev you can't put what goes on in our towns today in the same context. Our government enticed Black seafarers like Charles Wotten to stay here and work & fight for our country, & Charles was born here, similarly the Chinese seafarers who after their services then mysteriously taken backhome never to see their families through relationships made with Liverpool girls. Our government left these families believing they had been abandoned & in reality their men folk where taken away. Some of these coming here today are not here for the same reasons as Charles Wotten. People are getting angry because our government are by passing our UK destitute , Black & white & ploughing money into helping asylum seekers & migrants who come here with poor English from the Balkens & other places with no wars. They have child after child no job to come to or prospect of one. Use our education system freely & claim Houses that our own destitute get refused, I could go on & on. Yes some are decent people who you can't blame for wanting a better life. But please don't put them in the same context as the likes of Charles Wotten. If you have witnessed true traumatisation you would realise that's not the case with some if these in Liverpool. I love your videos Kev but don't be nieve it's not about colour or stealing jobs, it's about our own people suffering having pensioners heating allowance stopped ,NHS services, housing, disability benefits, educational services all being reduced or stopped to accommodate all these Immigrants. They are putting nothing into the pot but taking everything out. I am no racist but i object to this mass immigration. Why not go the States,Canada, Australia large countries ? Instead of our tiny UK Islands who can't assist our own people as you realise. Apologies to all the hard working foreigners here. Brilliant content yet again Kev 🙏

Thank you Kev, for your research and possibly getting the plaque put back that is well deserved. I didn’t know about this and will look into the riots at that time now. It’s such a sad part of our history. I understand the friction from both sides but the rock throwing etc, just made me tear up. I’m sure there are many more across the country. What would we have done without these people. How would the country have survived without them coming over at the governments invitation. I don’t know the answer to that all I can say in my opinion is that we all bleed red, these people came to help and some possibly were lied to or trapped into coming over. Anyone who thought it was ok to stone a man must’ve had so much hatred brewing inside. We are seeing it now in different forms and maybe the tables have turned. It’s all down to politics and the media manipulating everyone. I think I’ve said enough. I could say more but many people, on ALL sides, wouldn’t like it. Nowadays I’m scared to say so much for fear of retribution because whatever I do say will be sort of, dammed if I do or dammed if I don’t. My weapons of W4rf4r3 are not of this world, they are just my 2 hands clasped together in prayer. At my age and health conditions I don’t think I’ll make it to see 2030, I hope and pray that this world will be a world of peace and full of people who are likeminded as you are. My ‘children’ and my grandchildren will get to learn so more than I will ever know, as will you. Keep it going this has been by far one of the most interested fact finding video you have put out there and it’s given me something to do when I’m alone and getting upset thinking about loved ones I have lost. Thank you sincerely. You have such a good heart and I don’t think you truly realise the impact this channel has on so many and you have touched people from near and far. Why you don’t have a million subs is beyond me. Sorry it’s a long comment but I’m sitting here alone and cold at home and I was so happy to see the notification. God bless you Kev. If I find anything else out about the riots around the areas I know of I will let you know here on this video with a link to whatever I find. Sorry again to you and others who are member or have subbed to this channel for this long comment. But I feel like it’s a family here and I know some will maybe be ok with it but some will be saying whatever nasty comment they want to as a reply, and that’s ok, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Thank you Kev once again. ⭐️🙏
