Homeless TH-camr here! Lol I'm female btw. If you can get her in Brydon they will also help with the transport. As a female yes, we are always getting propositioned. It's a sad fact,. Don't feel bad about helping women, anybody can see your heart is in the right place. It's not because of you, but obviously you become extremely cautious as a female. Don't take it to heart mate it's just how it is. Wrong though it may be.

Women on the streets are either living in government boarding or at have a place to stay, if they don't they are either drunks or smackheads because women are catered for but have to give up the drink or drugs to live there; men are rarely catered for or lucky. I'm glad you mentioned the non-homeless, as there are a lot in Liverpool (I don't know about the rest of the country) who have a house and take it as free money on top of their benefits; taking it away from the proper homeless. Same for people selling the Big-Issue nowadays, as it's full of people from abroad who are also living in a house and making extra money either themselves or in a bigger gang. Selling the Big Issue used to be for a year or two until you are on your feet. Now, it's full of foreigners who have been doing it for ten years or so, and have nice clothes on and disappear four or five times a year when they go back home abroad to see family.

It's also bad in Chester. I know someone who works with the homeless and some can make hundreds of pounds a day by hanging around expensive hotels. However many are scammers and some in organised gangs and return home for the night. If they only want money they've got a drug or alcohol problem or they're likely a scammer. It's best to only buy food if you think they're genuine.

I had friends visiting Liverpool a few weeks ago..... I was ashamed to take them into the city, Outside almost every shop front in Church st and around Liverpool 1, was a tent set up with handwritten notices.... People hanging around the cash machines.... and a couple of guys with signs 'please spare 30P'.( that's a new one!) .... It is very noticeable that most of these supposed'homeless' are working together... In Liverpool over the years we had several characters who were known to the passing public and we used to give them a few bob in passing.... but sadly these parasites are wrecking the city.... In all walks of life there are scammers . The best thing to do is stop and chat to the people ,people know who are the real homeless , shop owners , security , reguilar shoppers and other homeless , so give them food , if its not suitable for them, they will give it to others. If you need to know they need a room in a hostel , offer to go with them and pay. Many find faith when they are at rock bottom , so knocking those who say God Bless is diabilical, certainly I know many homeless that say that , and mean it!

I made a conscious decision some years ago not to give money to people begging in the street. I based this on clear evidence that the money people often blindly hand over to beggars in the street is used for substance abuse, alcohol consumption and also gambling. So rather than fuel people's addictions and line the pockets of drug dealers especially, I would donate the occasional spare cash I have to legitimate organisations who are dedicated to helping people break these addictions.

It's a fact that you take a chance talking to any women or children these days. This all seems to be taking its toll on you and I worry about you and what you're taking on. I wonder if you might be better joining an organised group if you want to continue this work because doing it alone can affect your safety and mental health. Taking the homeless off the streets will always be a job for city councils and the government, but they don't seem interested so people like you take this huge job on your shoulders when you shouldn't have to. What a shithole Church Street now is, and not as a result of homelessness. The more Islamic the city centre becomes the worse it gets. Compare the seediness and imported poverty of 2024 to pictures of the area in the 70s, 80s and 90s when it was bustling with Liverpool people just out for some shopping or on their lunch break. How this has been allowed to happen is both sad and disgraceful in equal measures.

He and He alone provided me with spiritual tools, nothing external helped, in fact, peoples help mostly hindered me. Here in Ireland it's now become commonplace to see professional beggars driven to the early morning begging spots in people carriers, set up their dirty sleeping bags/sheets, and then sit and pretend to be homeless, asking for money using written notices.
One "beggar" has been arrested as an illegal immigrant and deported four times, yet he is back here again, and often seen driving the people carrier "taxi" to drop off his fellow professional beggars, before parking his vehicle in a handicapped space for free, then taking his begging attire/kit to his own spot.
Some now have signs not asking for spare change, but for amounts of money from €10 upwards, of all things.
People daren't use outside cash-point machines anymore, as they are then surrounded by these "beggars" demanding money, or the machines have been tampered with by professional thieves who install false card slots and pin-hole cameras to film and steal pin numbers, then cloning the card details, and emptying people's accounts soon afterwards.
Even the local buskers are targets for these professional beggars, who try and steal the guitar cases with the money people have thrown in for the busker, leading to fights and injuries, and rarely do the Gardai (Irish Police) get involved now, it's become so common a sight, as we have no foot patrol Gardai on the streets, and if they are called to attend, it can take up to four hours for an actual Garda to arrive, as they are so short-staffed.
Oddly enough, these beggars are videoed regularly stealing and attacking people, the videos put up online, yet the Gardai still don't do anything, due to "lack of evidence" available.
This along with the street cameras watching too, just shows how accepted this has become in daily life here in Ireland.

Will someone kindly explain to me why the homeless end up in city centres ? It is actually misleading to describe all the people in this situation as “homeless” when in many many cases the problem is mental health and or addictions. These people need help but just dropping some coins into a Costa cup doesn’t go very far in helping them but it does make the donor feel better before forgetting all about it.

I worked with homeless people for years. Many horrendous things happen on the streets things you cant imagine. Why dont you join a homeless charity to help people you will have the support you will need, and they can give Mary the support she needs Unless you can get in touch with this place in Manchester i wouldnt just take Mary if the place say bring her then take a female friend with you as well.

Makes sense not to give her a lift.
Reuben’s on Albert dock, is great for breakfast.

Some are just outright scammers and the successful ones can make hundreds of pounds a day if they hang around expensive hotels then return to their homes at night.
If they only want money they've either got a drug or alcohol problem or they're likely a scammer. It's best to only buy food for them if you think they're genuine.

You are definitely doing the right thing showing this, it's the reality that these poor women live with. Homelessness isn't just missing a roof . Sorry to say but human nature has many shades, many of which are dark. You are right to be cautious as the womans comments must surely come from experience, I was just wondering if you have a female family member or friend, would could go with you. I know that the times we have been able to help people have been far more forthcoming with me as a woman than if my husband approached.

I think that it would be fine to post that interaction. As a way to highlight that some men maybe trying to take advantage of vulnerable women on the streets. It would be a good thing I think, but ultimately it's your choice, but what you're doing is great 👍🏻

    kev your being to helpful.
I think the best thing would be to get a competent female member of your family (wife/sister} to take Mary to manny. Another thing a good percentage of homeless have bad mental health problems, i being male wouldn't want to get to close to the female homeless as they become paranoid regarding past abuse and can accuse you of anything, drop them off food (great), quick hello and get moving.

It's a shame but I ignore all of them now, fact is there's a guy outside a shopping centre I go to who's been selling the Big Issue for must be 5 years now. This means he's self employed and gets all his benefits paid no questions asked. There's a whole professional begging industry now and rather than feel sorry I resent them now.

Women being propositions happens a lot more than decent men like you know. I've had it many times, A taxi driver once asked if I wanted to do something for him for free tpride, I'm quite assertive so I said pftt, the fare is £12.50, my skills are worth more than that. Over the years when I was much less assertive it used to bother me more. Touching happens a lot too, even at high school.

The trouble is drug addicted women will do these 'favours' for low amounts of money and are often taken advantage of. It's a sad situation all round.
