    As someone who collects smoke alarms, I can confirm that this is beyond true. Every month or so I disconnect mine and use some compressed air

      The sensor is a metal Chrome plate with fins its contain americium to trigger Red LED and sounder or buzzer (piezzo electric buzzer and is black plastic resonator) horn when it detect smoke and fire, the other i think black piece i think is a optical sensor but not sure any idea?

      @@luiscoelho4151Yes; this type of alarm is both a photoelectric and ionization, containing both technologies, which the black part is photoelectric and the metal part is the ionization.

    This model is a ionization and photoelectric; the metal part is the ionization, it is radioactive. The plastic Is the photoelectric. Which is a laser; and if the path is interrupted, it is triggered.

      ArtisanTony smoke alarms use a radio active element (americium) and a receiver plate. When that plate doesn't get a radioactive signal from the americium, ie blocked by a particulate like smoke or dust it goes off.

    The black cylinder with the hole in the top of the alarm is the horn that makes the sound

  • @OmegaHellHound543
    @OmegaHellHound543 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The part you put the dust into was the horn. The sensors are the other two, as that is a combo alarm. It uses ionization and photoelectric, but the best result with the sawdust would be to put it into the ionization chamber which is the silver one.

  • @BukuiZhao
    @BukuiZhao 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The one that you said is the sensor isn't actually is, it is the horn. The black piece right next to that horn which you said was the sensor is the photoelectric sensor which is better at detecting smoldering fires, and the silver piece next to the horn is the ionization sensor which is better at detecting flaming fires. Some detectors only have one of the above but some other, like yours, have both sensors in.

    The 'dust' has to actually get into the sensor unit for the photo electric part to operate. It uses infra red light reflection off dust or other particles to activate the sensor. Take the top off the detector chamber and do it that way, not just pour stuff around the sensor head. The silver unit is an ionisation chamber. Try burning some toast around it and see what happens.

    • @dumbstuffrc8825
      @dumbstuffrc8825 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for making your point this is very true. The silver one is ionisation and the black left one is the photoelectric sensor. It will most likely be the ionisation that's making it go off
