I laughed so hard at your realization that Vanilla Ice sampled this. Knox, you should definitely dig into David Bowie. He was one of the most iconic artists ever, a master at reinventing himself, and always fearless in whatever he did. As far as a first song to check out, I would recommend the official video for Space Oddity (the song is from 1969). However, I think a great introduction to David Bowie is the clip of his interview on MTV in 1983, in which he calls out MTV for not playing the music of black artists. It's titled "David Bowie addresses the apparent racism on MTV (1983)." He is an artist well worth your time.
Saw Bowie live in Detroit twice. Once as Ziggy Stardust and later as the Thin White Duke, where I pushed my way right up before the raised stage (I was down in the orchestra pit) and he knelt down and touched my outstretched hand smiling. Great shows great times.
David Bowie also called out MTV for not showing black rappers videos, there's a great interview where he nails them over it. He was such an extraordinary performer and a very insightful human too. His predictions about the internet were very prescient!
I loved that! I actually saw it when it came out. He wouldn’t let it go either and called out media for not integrating more. Mark Goodman kept trying to explain it away and Bowie wasn’t having it. Iconic.
Right? His childhood might feel like a lie hearing this for the first time, but mine feels revived like I'm hearing it for the first time again, through fresh ears.

Bass line courtesy of John Deacon. He's so overlooked really. Not only did he write some fantastic songs but he designed and built one of Brian May's amplifiers - the Deaky Amp.
I knew I would love your initial reaction to the intro bassline of this and I was not disappointed. If I remember I think Vanilla Ice didn't get full permission to use that sample and he tried to pass it off as his own but no one believed him. It's just too iconic.

The closet thing I have seen to Ren is Bowie. Same level of ability to perform, cross genres and change across time. Also his music (for the most part) had messages. He didn’t however rap.
I always have to wait a few seconds to see if it's Under Pressure or Vanilla Ice. I knew as soon as it hit the look on your face would be so worth it!!!! David Bowie is Ziggy Stardust Space Oddity or sometimes called Ground Control To Major Tom. Queen and Bowie have so many great songs, it's insanity!
they never performed this live together, the videos are spliced from different performances, Bowie's specifically was from the tribute concert after Freddie Mercury's death
First….I can’t overlook your initial reaction when you first heard the baseline …… that was classic LOL. Vanilla Ice tried to use the baseline and claim it was his…… Mercury and Bowie immediately called their lawyers …..and the case was settled out of court. Thank you for a beautiful and insightful reaction to this great song …sung by two iconic singers. Yes…. You must continue to react to Queen songs …..even at one song a week ….. your reactions could last for years. Live performances are usually always the best ….. but many, many great songs are not available live. I don’t know if you have ever reacted to “Somebody to Love” live in Montreal 1981 ….but that would be an absolute must to do. Then “Another One Bites The Dust” and “Save Me” both from this same concert. I am looking forward to more of your reactions. Thank you. 😊
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your reactions and explaining the words/meanings of the lyrics. You are an empath, u FEEL the voice as if it was an injection of pure love or how you know ur wife loves you and u love her. Not many people actually FEEL these things. There are a lot that do but many more don't, they just concentrate on the words. I've watched 2 of your video's, this one and the Bohemian rhapsody one. YOU r absolutely fantastic and admire how you are open to voice your knowledge on the music. I wish u great success with your future. Chester Bennington was another angelic voice, he will be missed as much as Freddie Mercury.....true legends ❤️
Love your reaction to these absolute legends! Torn between wanting to see more Queen on your channel and wanting to throw the brand new Linkin Park track at you because that is also awesome. Man, I like your insights, Knox. Also, your surprise that Queen originally owned that bassline was pretty adorable. Probably not the manliest thing I could say, but that little kid wide-eyed wonder in your face was just...cute, and I mean that in a good way, believe it or not. It's genuine and honest and real and human and a really big part of why I stop by your channel.
Great reaction - as always, thank-you! As others have mentioned.. they never actually sang this together.. this is a mash-up of two different concerts. Also, the baseline was from Queen base player, John Deacon (Deaky).. and yes, it was sampled by Ice.. who ultimately was sued! If you choose to continue your Queen journey - you’ll find many, many amazing lyrics.. they changed over the years, but always top level in every way!!
If you want to experience the awesome way Queen would open a concert , an example would be One Vision live at Wembley 1986. The slightly longer version that shows time lapse of building the stage and the audience arriving. Blind and deafen them was goal.
"What hasn't Queen done that has their fingerprints on". What a lovely quote. Same with "Does Queen ever miss?". Thank you for getting it. It's just some of the reasons why - for me - Queen is the greatest band of all time. Sure, they have their own sound, but they don't have 2 songs that are alike. Every song has it's own style, it's own sound, it's own story. And the songs do tell a story, they're not just a repeated chorus, they have messages. Also, to know that Queen is the only band in world history of which every single band member (1) has written at least 1 of the band's number one hits and (2) is individually inducted in the songwriters hall of fame. That just shows how genius they all were and are. Freddie Mercury, dr. Bryan May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon.
Also, Bowie and Freddie never performed this song together on stage. What you see here is a mix of 2 videos. Freddie singing is from Queen live at Wembley Stadium in 1986. Bowie singing is from the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992 where Bowie performed this song with Queen. Feel free to check more from the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, like Elton John and Axl Rose performing 'Bohemian Rhapsody' together or - my favourite - George Michael absolutely nailing it with 'Somebody to Love' (especially if you know the backstory of George having lost his lover to aids as well just a few days or weeks before). And if you're a fan of duets with a male and female singer.. Go for Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé performing 'Barcelona' together, mixing rock and opera in a stunning way.
AND...after Freddie passed ,there was a massive Tribute Concert for Aids where Queen played all their songs but various artists sang the lead vocals. maybe the best live show ever ? Anyway ....Bowie and the brilliant Annie Lennox did this as a duet and for me it was the highlight of the evening (but there were many ). Check it out .
0:30 well, yes, of course haha (I was brought up with classic rock the first half of my childhood.) And Vanilla Ice said it was a TOTALLY different bass line because he added ONE extra note. 😑 Queen was like "yeah....we're still going to court." I remember hearing Ice Ice Baby and I'm like...."Why does it sound like Under Pressure?" My dad got the Queen Greatest Hits albums 2 the first year living in Dubai... It had just been released (1991...ahhh...) and Dad played that tape sooo much that it was pretty worn by the time he got the CD once we had a car with a CD player. I remember this was the 2nd song and Radio Ga Ga, one of my personal favorites came right after. So much nostalgia. I'm happy you're getting into Queen and realising just how far reaching their impact on music has been (Heck, it's made ME have to take a step back and remember that yeah, Queen has had this crazy amount of influence, impact etc The way their music has impacted the world I've seen onky few others have similar impacts...one of those being Eminem.
Love this! You should totally react to David Bowie, I think you'll like him. He's definitely an icon that you should get into. Especially if you're getting into Queen, Bowie's a good one to get into!
Bowie: start with Space Oddity, Starman, Rebel Rebel (in his Ziggy Stardust persona), then Heroes, Fame, Golden Years (Thin White Duke persona)...and go from there. He reinvented himself over and over, never resting on his laurels, always pushing into new styles and ideas. Amazing musician. Heroes is one of my favorites: about a couple in Berlin meeting near the Wall
No man is a building? True enough. Check out John Donne - "No man is an island, entire unto himself.' The poem is also quoted at the end of Hemingways "For Whom the Bell Tolls. "Ask not for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee." Freddie & Bowie never get old, even tho I did. I was 45 when this came out.

The closet thing I have seen to Ren is Bowie. Same level of ability to perform, cross genres and change across time. Also his music (for the most part) had messages. He didn’t however rap.
I agree 100%
The ship will sail much smoother when we all row together
Thank you. 😊
Ren reminds me of David Bowie. That’s just my opinion. I don’t know how many instruments Mr. David Bowie can play but he’s got a pen.
100 percent this… ❤
I'm so glad you finally reacted to this 🤗🎶
2 icons for sure🔥❤️✌️
0:44 Yep! He did use the song in his singing it. It’s actually quite old, David Bowie and Freddie Mercury sang this duet in 1981.
Love your stuff man!!! So glad you are doing g this reaction!!!!
These guys were the original makers ,writers of this song. Indeed 🎉❤More Bowie please .! Love your hat man.
Loving your energy, appreciation, and interpretation with this classic. Thank you
This song never disappoints. Kinda like Knox, whether he's reacting or giving us new music, always awesome.
The world's favourite rock band, Queen, and some genius bloke.
LOL! Your face was priceless. Lots of people have been in your shoes.
If you want to experience the awesome way Queen would open a concert , an example would be One Vision live at Wembley 1986. The slightly longer version that shows time lapse of building the stage and the audience arriving. Blind and deafen them was goal.
I just really enjoy your breakdowns and insights. You really have a clear and engaging way about you.
So I'm a bit older than you are so for me, it was hilarious to see you discover the truth behind ice, ice baby 😂😂 Great reaction to the song.
I love your reaction and interpretation, you are always really awesome to watch, thank you 😊
"What hasn't Queen done that has their fingerprints on".
So many people think they have never listened to Queen, when in reality their music is everywhere, whether its at a sports event or a sample.
Queen: "Don´t stop me now" and "Innuendo"
Awesome reaction, two of the greats, thank you Sir 🙏🐊❤️🦉👍
AND...after Freddie passed ,there was a massive Tribute Concert for Aids where Queen played all their songs but various artists sang the lead vocals. maybe the best live show ever ? Anyway ....Bowie and the brilliant Annie Lennox did this as a duet and for me it was the highlight of the evening (but there were many ). Check it out .
This is one of my favorite songs growing up. Two icons. I laughed hard at your realization about Ice.
0:30 well, yes, of course haha (I was brought up with classic rock the first half of my childhood.) And Vanilla Ice said it was a TOTALLY different bass line because he added ONE extra note. 😑 Queen was like "yeah....we're still going to court." I remember hearing Ice Ice Baby and I'm like...."Why does it sound like Under Pressure?"
My dad got the Queen Greatest Hits albums 2 the first year living in Dubai...
Right on Knox Welcome to the Queen Army ❤🎉 66 year old lady From Ohio 😊
David Bowie Heroes live. The song was covered beautifully by the Big Push, a great tribute to Bowie.
I found it beautiful that you are learning the influence people like queen and david bowie had good job ground control to mr. Hill
Two legends together, great!
It tolls for thee."
Freddie & Bowie never get old, even tho I did. I was 45 when this came out.
You know its a powerful song when 40 years later you still relate to it, any generation can relate to it
