As we say in the professional sound reinforcement business: “Air gap!”. Sorry I’m late to the party Paul, I think TH-cam changed their algorithm because I don’t get yours and Giles’ videos recommended immediately like I used to. Thanks for the history of Shobdon! I live in a town where they trained B17 and B24 pilots and am very interested in WWII history and history in general.
Better late than never! There is definitely strange things going on in TH-cam world! You could feel the history walking around Shobdon. Hope I did it some justice. 👍
Excellent Paul, I thought that the approach and landing were great. Great photography. Keep them coming. Interesting info about online training for rt. 👍👍
Thankyou. There’s been a lack of content recently due to circumstances out of my control. Thanks for being patient. Normal service should resume soon. 👍
Glad you found it useful. I’m no instructor so take anything I say with a pinch of salt. I just like sharing what I get up to for anyone who cares to watch. 👍
Hi Paul. Regards the pathetic GoPro battery life, I use a Digipower Refuel battery pack that solved all my battery longevity probs (just remember to turn it on before take-off!!). I can easily get 3-4hours run time at 4k and it works a treat. Ideal for the outboard camera and easily managed with the GoPro remote which I'm sure you already have. Cheers, Lance (Pep) from Downunder.
That looks like it might just be the solution I was looking for. My issue isn’t with battery life. The GoPro is switching off due to overheating. There is plenty of battery life left. However it’s the batteries that are getting hot and causing the overheating. These digipower might be the solution. Do these replace the original battery or do you keep the original battery inserted as well?
Gidday again Paul. The refuel appears to keep the original battery charged until the refuel itself expires. I am using it with the GoPro 11 fitted with a Max lens at 2.7k/50/W and have had no issues with it stopping (touch wood - I am now touching my head ). But I very rarely run the camera for longer than 5-10mins and keeping the resolution lower helps. If you like, have a gander at th-cam.com/video/rkA2aJ0OY-A/w-d-xo.html to see how the footage looks. Love your videos and our Nines are almost here - very much looking forward to the extra speed and wider range of conditions to safely fly in. Be well, Lance
Great video. I did a taster day at Shobdon in 2001. I was really keen to take it up. I fly paragliders now. Quick question. How much does a microlight cost?
Glad you’re enjoying the content. There are quite a few other YT channels knocking about. If it’s specifically UK flexwing stuff that you are interested in then “Edges of the air” and “Induced bank” would be worth a look at. “Wing nuts” is entertaining if you’re interested in the more technical maintenance stuff. 👍
@@FlyingDarkLord I had considered a switch to DJI as I have some DJI camera equipment (pocket 3 and mini 4 drone) both of which is 100% reliable. It’s just an expensive way of dealing with the problem!
Hi Bernie. I have trailored my microlight to events in the past. However I normally leave my microlight de-rigged in a hangar. The price has just gone up to £55 per month. 👍
Must admit I don't fly anymore but using the radio I found really stressful trying to operate, retain the info all whilst trying to handle a bucking bronco with the turbulence.
@@livingladolcevita7318 I must admit that I have the memory of a Goldfish and not being able to write anything down is a problem. I got lucky on this flight as I was only passed a runway and a pressure reading to read back. I can just about remember two things!! 👍
Found em! Thanks for putting in the video description. For some YT reason my phone didn't show 'em. Probably the same reason your radio didn't work. 🤣🤣
Glad you found them. They are a game changer. In the summer, I don’t need to wear any gloves which makes operating cameras/phones much easier. In the winter, I can get away with wearing a thinner pair of gloves. The mitts also give a useful place to keep notes/charts etc. I keep them on all year round. 👍
@@paulieb796 Perfect, sounds like the solution that would work for me. If you need a video idea - a quick video on how the mitts attach and some close up views would be cool. Seems to be only a few brands of mitts on the market now. I'm guessing not much demand. If you need my contact info, Mr. Giles has my digits. 🙂
I've found the gopro cameras switch off intermittently when controlled through Bluetooth. When recording is started by pressing a button on the camera they run till the battery goes flat or I run out of space.
I haven’t had any problems starting recording via Bluetooth, but if I record in 4k, the cameras will overheat after 30mins or so, even when flying on a cold day! I think I might end up sticking to 1080p. I can’t tell the difference with my eyes and the file sizes and editing are more manageable. 👍
Thankfully never suffered from cramp in legs or feet when flying. Oddly though I do quite often get cramp on my hands where I can’t open my grip. I’m told the best thing for cramp is a plenty of fluids 😉🍺🍻🍺
I think the GoPro 9’s just get hot when recording in 4k for any length of time. Have tried different batteries, SD cards and they have always done it after several firmware updates. I am seriously thinking of switching to DJI action cameras. 👍
My first flight to Shobdon was 21 years ago. I was delivering invitations for my 60th Birthday Bash to flying friends. Although I was landing on grass a GA came in low on long finals so as non-radio, I opted to do a go round. I flew from Long Marston, somewhat shorter distance to Darley Moor. But after 3 hours on the ground I flew to Otherton to see an ex-instructor “Crash” Gordon. Camped overnight. The next day to Roddidge to see another ex-instructor Mick Shea. Back to my village field in time for a lunchtime pint. 5 hours 20 minutes flying all at 42 mph, somewhat slower than you Nines. I loved my XL!
You just described the perfect day! Not been to Long Marston. But have sampled the breakfast at Otherton. Rodrigo of course is no longer there but I have been to its new location at Fisherwick. I do enjoy visiting places. 👍

Thanks. It was a great trip. Might be the last one of this year now the weather is getting cooler.

Not yet! Still waiting for Vauxhall to source a part which is on back order. Been over a month now! Not happy!!😡
@paulieb796 Blimey, bless you. My car had to wait two weeks for a steering column but that wasn't too bad. I wasn't allowed to drive then anyway.
