LOL, I just commented on this video, then saw the comment right below that was me from 14 Years Ago, LOL man I was just starting Jazz back then. That's about when I met Jimmy too.
The imagination, the inspiration, the ability to be able to translate the musical notes of a piece into "the art" are those qualities, those exceptional qualities, typical of a great artist (with a capital "A"), such as Jimmy Bruno, I believe, together with Howard Alden, the greatest interpreter of Jazz, a true Star of the musical Firmament. Listening to it is just a pleasure, a great emotion, a river in flood that overwhelms everything and everyone! My sincere congratulations. C.Castellano - Italy -
A "great artist", like "Jimmy Bruno", you immediately recognize him! Just a few notes are enough to identify it with reasonable certainty: from the style, performance and interpretation of each piece proposed, from the notes, the arrangement, creativity, rhythmic virtuosity and all those other elements that characterize it as a whole. Ultimately, alone, it is a freewheeling orchestra, which knows no boundaries, limits, or embankments. It is a "river in flood", a "tzunami" that overwhelms everything and everyone, a rhythmic tide of musical notes that arouse, in the listener, that natural and universal feeling of the soul called "emotion". Fantastic!! !! To the low opinion of the writer, Jimmy Bruno is one of the greatest artists of Jazz, a milestone for fantasy, execution, creativity, all elements that sculpt the musical firmament of the "Big"! My compliments,. c.castellano, Italy
I miei sinceri complimenti. C.Castellano - Italy -
Jimmy Bruno was unwell for a while - he is now on youtube now dispensing his own knowledge and his own brand of humour. Thank Goodness. He is a great ADVOCATE of Using the REAL BOOK to place under a wobbly table leg. His own copy is helping his rocking chair not move forward. But He has a point when he explains how he learned. He is a Gem - a 1st magnitude star in the galaxy of music.
I shook Jimmy's hand one time at Smalls and was amazed at how small his hands are! He's a small guy and his hands are almost like a kids hands. But he's an amazing player. Liked the whiskey back then too.
Seems whatever Jimmy plays is the most perfect note or chord for that second in time in the entire universe! How does he do it? Unbelievable technique. 😳
People Talk about Wes Montgumery , Joe Pass , Martin Taylor ,Herb Ellis and many more JAZZ Greats but Jimmy Bruno in my opinion is so over looked and in my Opinion Better than any of the Above his Sweep Picking skills on his Instructional DVD's is unreal and such great Tone from his Fingers ... Jimmy Bruno ROCKS !!!
In my mind, the greatest guitar players ever are, 1 Joe Pass, 2 Jimmy Bruno, 3 Wes Montgomery, 4 Pat Metheny, then everyone else. Who is the other cat playing with him? He did a steller job, I'd be scared out of my witts to strum a C chord with Jimmy Bruno.
Remley - Mate either he was down with it or he didn't have a clue who he was sitting opposite! But yes - I would be bricking it if bruno asked me if I knew 'such and such'. And I'm a double bassist! Regardless he did do a stellar job - you're right.
Hey it was me! Jimmy was a great teacher and friend, always encouraging. Why be afraid? That’s how you learn! Looking at it 24 years later I certainly play differently so it’s almost like a snapshot of a different person. The great thing about jazz is that your ability, technique, and vocabulary are constantly evolving. I had no recollection of this video until I saw it here on TH-cam a few years back.
What a great moment in musical history.
