    this is WITHOUT A DOUBT the craziest heart fight I've ever seen.
    Baalor refers to this run in a later stream and said something along the lines of "we didn't deserve to win that one" but he absolutelety did, this run is on a level of play I think Most of us could never achieve.

      Yup. I had 0 idea how he was going to manage time eater, donu deca on 7hp and the heart...

    • @GreyWithCreamium
      @GreyWithCreamium 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Wow I never realized this. Another thing was the last Biased Cog upgrade. iirc Baalor said looking back that one point of focus allowed him to be block positive during that crucial turn. A lot of small decisions ended up being crucial to the win.

    • @richardyannow650
      @richardyannow650 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@GreyWithCreamiumI think he would've been barely block positive without the Biased Cog upgrade. He was at +3 focus on that second-to-last turn, so his Recursion - Coolheaded - Recursion - Skim loop blocked for 16 and cost 12 in beat of death. With one less focus, it would block for 14 and cost 12, which is still block-positive. You can do that a ton of times to get to 100+ block, and then start interspersing the Recursion - Coolheaded - Recursion - Claw - Skim loop, which costs one block and plays a Claw. (Alternately, if you keep compile driver, you can use that in place of Skim in the first loop, and you're doing damage in a block-positive loop.)
      The harder question is how you do it if you don't get the focus potion, in which case his loop is only block-neutral on that turn. I tried to find a way to squeeze Hologram in this loop in place of Skim sometimes, but that ends up dwindling your hand size a bit. Perhaps a different infinite works in that case, but you'd have to plan everything differently (or maybe you could hold Biased Cog for one turn more without breaking the setup).

      @Marshymallow12321 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@richardyannow650 Notably however, if he skipped that upgrade and did not get the focus potion, that turn ceases to be block positive. it would be 12 and 12. Man made the correct decision if rng didn't hand him that god potion.

Sitting at 1,861 hours played myself but certainly no pro, I have little doubt I'd have folded like a cheap suit by mid Act 3 when things started looking very grim indeed. The precision in manipulating the heart fight was awesome to behold. What a truly astounding comeback!
    EDIT: Ok, well, honorable mention should go to Jorb's insane break-the-spire Silent run, where the poison numbers got so big they led to integer overflows and the heart became immune to poison.

    It's funny how Baalorlord had an infinite for the heart for a long time, a weird one, but still.
    Defend+, Defend+, Recursion (only plasma orb), claw and the recycle he can't get rid of. 16 block per cycle, 3x15 damage incoming from beat of death. Slow but steady infinite damage and block? And thanks to it not using any other orb types it's guaranteed to never get the wrong draw order when shuffling.

Recursion, claw, recycle loop is block positive (you can't remove recycle) when frost orbs are at 9 from focus (recurses for 12 and -9 from BoD per loop) so the run wasn't over if he accidentally proc'd the plasma orb.

    Thinking about it, I really don't know if I agree with removing FTL over removing defend+. Having one less card to recycle to hit the unceasing top just seems so much better to me? I feel like he went and recycled defend+ a whole bunch of times immediately afterwards too.
    Edit: watched through the rest of the run. He did indeed recycle defend a lot, but he also didn't utilise unceasing top all that much. I think I was overvaluing that relic, as it's quite hard to utilise fully without med kit and/or blue candle.

    • @XENOX-777
      @XENOX-777 ปีที่แล้ว

      Look at the game before he decided to remove FTL. A majority of the time he was playing enough cards that FTL didn't do anything other than give a very small amount of damage. Recycling defend gives him energy(that extra energy is more useful than 5 damage) and he can sometimes play it for some extra defense(which he did do a few times that really helped him out).
      Unceasing top takes too long to get into play cleanly, and when you're up against things like the heart and time eater, you need to be playing cards valuable enough to make sure you don't just die because they do damage/start turns based on you playing more cards. So even if you spend time setting up an infinite with unceasing top, it wouldn't necessarily be good enough.

    • @Zxv975
      @Zxv975 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@XENOX-777 The benefit of FTL wasn't the 5 damage, it was the fact that it doesn't cost anything to play if you have to play it in order to proc unceasing top. You can always choose to recycle FTL if you don't want it and you can just play it a if you don't, but you are always *forced* to recycle defend, which is the difference.
      Look at 1:27:42, he recycles defend and then time eater immediately ends his turn, so the +1 energy isn't even used. Against the heart he also did not make use of the +1 energy from recycling defend, and he played it on a turn where he was already buffering the hit with excess block for BoD so it added nothing. I understand it's a bit of hindsight analysis to focus too much on these interactions, but imo the extra flexibility offered from not necessarily *needing* to recycle defend is more important than what you're saying.

    • @XENOX-777
      @XENOX-777 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Zxv975 But you're missing the fact that there were tons of times that he did use the one extra energy. If he recycles FTL he gets nothing other than taking it out of the cycle.
      Also he had an infinite at the end with defend+, defend+, incursion, claw, recycle that was block positive. He just missed it and it was a combo that was a whole lot easier to achieve.

    • @Zxv975
      @Zxv975 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@XENOX-777 Is that really an infinite? You'd be procing recursion on the fusion orb for +2 energy right? So that'd be 3 defends per 1 recursion on fusion, so that's energy negative isn't it? Or am I missing something?
