- Have you ever wondered about who's really "out there" sleeping in parks and on the streets? Most cities struggle with finding answers, but Butte County really sits at a specific crossroads when it comes to homelessness issues. We've all been hearing a lot about it, but we don't often have the opportunity to hear from the people who are actually living outdoors. Weaving together intimate interviews with 9 individuals and couples living in the Teichert Ponds and Comanche Creek encampments, this honest film is humbling, powerful and informative. There are good people out there who are somehow living impossible lives. We hope this helps somehow. Theres a actual place in Florida where you're allowed to stay in a tent and the police can't make you leave.
This is so lovely . Often the one thing that the homeless have is community, they might have lost nearly everything else , the things that the housed population have (often in abundance and sometimes in excess) But the housed folk often dont have the tight social bonds that come from shared experience and shared struggles. They are the losers ad far as social capital is concerned .
It is lovely to see community being recognised and cherished.

27:00 "Control" makes sense. I love how Livermores new Tiny home village doesn't ban drugs or other things, so that conversation is open and everyone can seek help without feeling like they are not welcome and need to hide things.
It would be amazing to have a few places like that in Chico.

What happened to Crysten? She went to sleep one night and woke up to find her entire family had been wiped out. That would test anyone's limit's.
I know, right.... we (the filmmakers) did not want to pry too much, and honestly sort of hoped she would share that part of the story, but it didn't happen. This is obviously a major demarcation in her life. Thanks so much for watching. -RR
Thank you, Stacy and Gerard and CHAT! Beautiful commentary on our unhoused population. This should be required viewing for EVERY elected official in our county. It helps to bring the human aspect to what people so callously describe each day. The idea of creating a sanctuary for people who are living on the streets is achievable. I loved your questions: What's true about homelessness as it relates to mental illness, drug addiction, crime? What's difficult about being homeless? Why don't people go to local shelters? What about the trash situation? Is there anything good about being homeless? Anyone wanting to know the answers should watch this documentary. If we can create sanctuaries for horses, why can't we do the same for human beings? Most of these folks are looking for self-worth, self-esteem, a hand up - not a hand out. They'd be willing to pay something monthly (many are able) to be in a campground or sanctioned situation. We need to get this done! Thank you, again.

It seemed (and seems) to us that the narrative being created around these issues come from everywhere BUT the actual people who are living these lives. And while it's not a simple population to problem-solve for, it certainly seems that we can achieve SOMETHING. And many templates for solutions already exist. We just need to start. xo
Thank you for presenting this situation so honestly, and many thanks to those for sharing their story. I heard much wisdom spoken by them, and it's tragic that there's even a need to raise this issue. Every one has a right to shelter safely.
With even small housing it provides a safe place for people which reduces crime..
The end times will dissolve human advancement, (Impersonalization) and get us back to interaction! Hallelujah!

I've always gone camping as a young girl with my five siblings, 3 brothers and 2 sisters me being the eldest girl and my brother Jeffrey one year older than I, we all had fun..so if I was to become houseless again at 63,I'd be able to survive..there's ways to create shelter when really necessary..
"A lot of heroin out here".......that is the main issue....Nothing will work until the drugs stop

Heroin and addiction in general thrive on isolation, disconnection and despair.
Trying to eradicate the drug is much harder than trying to give people hope and treat them with respect. I dont know anywhere which is totally drug free but there is far less addiction and problematic use where there is hope and lives with meaning .
That's so wrong that they couldnt return to their property at paradise and at least try to set up homes...at least now tiny houses are being allowed to be set up..
It was the government that burned them out because they want the land, watch bill gates, he'll enlighten you!!

Jennifer , I agree, that is incredibly frustrating. Just so you know it was more than likely completely accidental. We had to remove the "premiere" event (just to be sure and save any comments there) we didn't delete it...we simply made it 'private'... thinking that we could at least save whatever comments had already been submitted. But it deleted them. There were a couple there that we wish could have stayed. Again, we're sorry.
One word: unemployable
I stayed with some friends in Chico but I wasn't homeless at the time and yes it is messed up when the police take all their s*** take him to jail throw it away and give him a fine that is really messed up I know how chica police are
What about living in all the abandoned towns aka ghost towns thru out the US. People can dismantle old buildings and then build a small home to occupy. Solar powered elect. Composting toilets. Witch for water or plastic tanks/barrels. Veggie boxes. Trash pick up . Town trips monthly for help n resources. Screen people no drugs alcohol ECT people like in your video . Whadya think stupid or has possibilities....

Lot of addicts that put themselves there. And they are my burden and responsibility why?
Addictions that start in the home and lead to crime and abuse that women and children must somehow survive and escape and suffer the consequences from. Why?
Ask Jesus
Because when we all thrive, you thrive.
We can't take such a simplistic view and judgment point. Maybe a few will refuse to change, but we are still called to lend a hand.
There's nothing worse than looking at a population of people without recognizing them as a fellow human.
If you can offer help, that is great, but the first and most important help anyone and everyone is called to is to recognize their humanity and how we are all blood and flesh of the same.
Drugs and alcohol will take you down to places you don’t want to go and keep you there longer than you can imagine
