Tom's doing the thing I did - he's clicking after every fish, so he keeps standing up. Took me like 30 hours to realise you can just click once, then wait for all the fish to be caught :P
In the 25 years I've been playing games, I've never seen a good fishing minigame lol. They universally suck. I don't care if they're in games, but if a game makes it "necessary" (part of a mission, or something like WoW where you need(ed? Haven't played in years) fish for raid consumables so you better get fishing and cooking leveled so you don't go broke), I'm out nowadays.
You can harvest plants with a sickle. You get the next blunt weapon through a quest rather than a level up. The katana has bonus damage vs monsters, so it's on par with other weapons at most levels. The gas mask recipe is somewhere in the bottom right. You should be crafting the deadly transmission whenever you can.
Just gotta say that 19:39 is a beautifully smooth transition. Also, I never thought that this game would become such a satisfying dog-washing simulator.
I personally just got the sledge and got the Polaris Train Cutscene. Speaking as someone who has had a hand in game design (Computer and tabletop. Design, Balance, and also QA), I had a rough time with the two big "What now?" spots so far. 1. GAME: Hey! You need a Gas Mask! ME: OK. Sure. Uhh...that's all you are going to tell me? Is this like, just dialogue? Am I just going to run into it? There isn't a quest for it. I wandered for a WHILE. I had gone as far on the north side as I could. Nothing new there. I had no quests to the south on this side of the river. I literally just had to walk around until I encountered the Jungle Quest. It was jarring. That wasn't how the "Main Quest" had been formatted since the beginning of the game. 2. GAME: Welcome to Central! Go to [X] for safe passage! ME: Yeah. Going to be a trap... GAME: Here is a specific quest to do. Also, you get this reward for completing it. ME: Oh. OK. That's new. This deffinitly feels like "The Main Quest". It's listed as a side quest though. It was a clear goal at least. It was clear that there were exactly 2 paths I could see to keep going west. Both involved broken trains. But this quest just had more to it. It felt like what I was supposed to be doing next. And then I finished it. And then I had no goals again. I had exactly one minor looking quest in my log. But it HAD to be the next thing because I'd been everywhere else my legs could take me. You can really feel the...segmented(?) development of the game. Like, there is a cohesive chunk that was clearly the Early-Access part. Then you can feel the "seam" where each new zone (or pair) got stuck on. The narrative flow just stops and starts. Even my overall goals feel like they keep changing. This place sucks. I'll slog my way to the best/only possible means of escape... *Update 37 - crop growing added* ...But first I'm going to start up a farm. Then I'll escape... *Update 44 - Plunder the mysterious tombs of an ancient civilization* ...After I raid the Temple of Doom? Is this helping me leave? *Update 71 - Tower Defense! OK wait. Why am I doing tower defense? *Because you get cool things that make it easier to complete the harder tower defense.* But...I'm trying to leave. Is this helping me leave? If I want more resources, I can knock down those 3 buildings right there. *Why would you want to LEAVE?* I uhhh. I don't think we are on the same page anymore...
@@Prophes0r I had kind of disagreed with your comment up until I read the part about the updated parts of the game kind of being bolted onto the original narrative, and now that I think about it I think you're right, it does seem like that. Part of why I was initially in disagreement is because I love games like Subnautica, which don't particularly guide the player to the next objective in the story, but this game was never built like that at the start so the sudden lack of direction is really jarring. It's a brilliant concept and I like the way they've done it, but there are definitely parts that could use a bit of polish.
Yes, the source of lumber is to the north. FYI, for the bridges you have to have the lumber on you to repair them, but you can repair it bit by bit, you don't have to do it all at once.
I found for bridges it's easiest to just plonk a sawmill right next to them, set it to the amount needed, and continue exploring - by the time you're back the lumber is sitting right next to the spot it's needed at.
If you time it right you can dump the wood and fall into the ravine dying before it actually takes the wood, thus allowing you to recoupe the wood from your body and repair a bridge with only one bit of lumber xD
@@Shyl1ght You can go around the Hibernus bridge by the tower, by going through Frore. It's not an obvious path, but man did I forget about Hibernus for a long time.
I find the deadly transmitters to be very useful. If you don't like all those monsters chasing you all the time. It's easy to outrun a few, but they get denser in the more difficult areas.
Honestly Material Magnet was probably one of my favorite things I didn't expect to love as much as I did once I got that fully upgraded. You can afk while fishing no need to keep clicking, also you can gather crops via the sickle VERY fast, no need to hold down gather. Also you can click on the recipes to see what they give BEFORE cooking them so you can find like run speed boost or crit chance. And most importantly, if you want to progress, stay in the south and do the quests, otherwise you're going to keep running into walls... literally and figuratively. [go to the pyramid] OH yeah and don't forget about Deadly Transmission to perma kill stuff... tbh there's very little negative other than in like 1 place where you can farm steel a bit but... w/e really by that point you'll have lots of steel. PPS once again damage deflect shiny metal is terrible. PPPPPS 😢Dying next to a campfire you didn't get, RIP.
I'm still adoring this series! I've mostly finished the game now, and it's really fun seeing you discover and play through things. You're definitely way further than I was at that amount of time played lol
Really? How are other people playing this? I found the train yesterday, but I was level 58 at the time. And By that point I essentially had infinite resources. (Except bricks. The damn wishing wells refuse to jackpot me bricks...) For real though, don't ignore the wishing wells. There are multiple wells that are just a short jog from a tower. Take a little break every once in a while and go feed them. They level up and give more and more resources. I just had one give me 488 Steel for like...some fish and leaves.

I always assume that people doing a Let's Play or a stream are going to make a bunch of mistakes, or miss important things like mechanics, or even just play super sub-optimal. They have to spend a bunch of their attention on being entertaining to us, the game is just a backdrop. But other "regular" people? I have no idea. I know that my best-friend and I play things so differently that the only way we learned to enjoy coop stuff is to be Pilot/Navigator. If we both try to play our own way at the same time, we both get super frustrated. I guess that's why I'm always astounded when I hear people like The Completionist talk about their "Incredibly Long" 200 hour journey for 100% in a game. Because me? I'd be at 600+ hours and still at 60%. Speaking of which...maybe 2022 is a good year for me to sit down and actually PLAY Skyrim... (1100+ hours put in to making mods for it. But I don't remember if I've ever actually played past the Greybeards. Hrmm)
Key to fishing: Add a lure. Cast your rod. Get a drink. Come back and he'll have caught all possible fish in that spot: done. Key to farming: Plant, then loot the area. Come back. Pick. Plant. Go do another area. TP back when you get around to it. There's several places you can farm. Dunno how long food takes to grow, but I've just been doing it when I'm near one and have made all my recopies so far. (I'm also not super far into the game, so maybe I'm just an idiot 🤷♀)

It's just free xp+food for a few seconds of idling. It takes SOOOOO much longer if you keep clicking on it like it's a minigame. The animations themselves take longer than the actual fishing does!

I'd say gas mask is more bottom center of the map than bottom right, but yee. Also you need the gas mask to get the next blunt weapon's quest
