    Nice work Sam! This seems like a nice, family friendly area. Great for shopping and eating. Just need to make sure your airline gives you extra luggage allowance for all the souvenirs. ✌🏻

      I’d recommend buying the extra suitcase from Hat Yai as well so you can get the VAT back on that also 😂

    Kim Yong Market looks like the place to get the bargains. The mall seems to be premium. Nice video 😊

    Almost every fortnight I will be in Hat Yai. It is my land transit from Malaysia to get to Surat Thani & any other places in Southern Thailand. Yes malaysian love going there for shopping & food without traveling far to Bangkok. And I found Hat Yai street are a lot cleaner than other town in Southern Thai. Most of the Thai there can speak English, not fluent but at least manageable to start a decent conversation. They have an awesome used shoes that you can get 100baht for 3 pairs, for a branded and decent condition shoes.

      Hello there friend 👋🏼 Thank you for sharing your experience and it sounds like you are quite the expert on Hat Yai as you travel there regularly. Do you think the shoes are originals?

    • @SumatraIslandGirl
      @SumatraIslandGirl 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ My pleasure. Could be a mix of knock-out & original. They all are used shoes from the well known international brand. What I heard from the guy at the store they imported the used shoes from countries like Japan & USA. This shop is not far from the Hat Yai Junction train station.

      Hello there 👋🏼 Yes that’s right. It’s quite interesting since it’s the focus of most of the store sales. Initially I thought that almonds, etc were natively grown.

    Hi, Sam, I don't see the value in visiting Hat Yai. The street shopping options are much better in Bangkok. The Malls are bigger and better in Bangkok. There is a Mall for every price point in Bangkok. You will pay 10 to 15% more for Street food in Bangkok. HY is very popular with Malays who engage in Tax arbitrage by shopping and claiming the Tax rebate. They can also get a massage+ which is more expensive in Malaysia. Speaking of massage, you completely ignored this popular topic in your video. Hard to believe you went to HY, but did not get a massage?? Very disappointing.

    • @hussmeister
      @hussmeister  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hello there 👋🏼 Thanks for your valuable input about Hat Yai. I found HY refreshing because it had that local vibe without the challenges of the big city. People were also friendly. Yes you are correct. I should have covered the massage topic. I hope to be back there soon enough and I’ll be sure to see what this massage scene is all about 👍🏼

      Hat Yai lacks the Chinatown super cheap wholesale market of Bangkok with high variety of products, and is pretty disorganized in their city planning. Without these, tourists won't flock in for shopping paradise despite Bangkok has done 3 major stupid things that's killing basic tourism attraction: 1. Moving train service from Hualampong to Bang Sue, away from major tourist shopping activities of MBK strip and Chinatown.
      2. HIGHLY INTENSE pollution of train services with corrupted train officials who are now TOO big for foreign tourists. Most foreigners who shop hence contributing foreign reserves to Thailand in Bangkok can't take packs to flights, but trains services now openly restrict luggage despite not checked, but there is a risk... ... also the rampant smoking of a 16hr trip is highly toxic, I noted many foreigners were disgusted. There is also not much respect to foreign tourists by Bang Sue station officials (they won't even shake hands nor bother with you approaching, and valid complains become making a scene, and they have NO respectful handling to issues but pushing around). Issues hence will remain, and this route for shoppers to pack and leave Thailand becomes risky, poisonous and thus impossible.
      3. Bangkok idiots now anyohow raise price even OVERnight to try make more... ... making shopping totally messed up, hence many who don't understand how to get cheap thought general price level in Bangkok has become comparable even to Malaysia... ... and are avoiding Bangkok. Before I left for Bangkok just this October, I was told by many Bangkok is now EXPENSIVE. What I discovered is, it is still relatively a bargain but some black horses, especially those stupid vendors just anyohow try to 'suck' tourist money by jacking up prices, including the tutu and taxi drivers. So ends up foreign tourists now is like... ... drying up, and Chinatown is pretty slow and empty with many businesses telling me they might have to close down.
      When this happens, the base tourism numbers will fail to support the newer section of shopping strip closer to Sukhumvit which is even more expensive. Terminal 21 or 12 is a mall which is selling at much higher price, but tourists visit the food and such sustaining the traffic.
      Before they make up their bloody ideas to improve, I am also avoiding Thailand. Now Nepal will be a better choice via air or sea route.
      You don't want to get into unnecessary problems with cargo limits and idiotic vendors and corrupted officials who had even tried to steal my phone on train before. Hahahaha~
      But the secondhand smoke cracked everything. The entire train station at Hat Yai to Bangkok... ... close to the rails you can smell the HEAVY smoke residue.
      And 2nd class carbin now cost a whopping 750 baht and above. Making it now ok to fly to Nepal from KL or so.
      Which is why Chinatown from so freaking crowded by foreigners now... ... slow and mostly patronized by Thais. LOL~
      Singapore made such stupid mistake as well, and look at what is going on to Singaporeans... ... and PAP is now starting to shake very hard. Worse, unlike Thailand we are small and have not much natural resources to retreat to. So idiotic, and the government rewards themselves for their stupidity... ... LOL~
      Also, general air pollution in Bangkok as a whole has become critical. Not to mention more diseased... ...
      I really miss the bargains, but... ... I don't want to risk my life for some discounts.
      More Thai in bad conditions due to health issues now in the streets. Bad news. Bangkok used to be so wonderful.
