      I totally agree on this pick. Actraiser 2 is a great example of a game with beautiful graphics that has absolutely nothing else to offer except pain. They should’ve just left it alone at one game.

    Chrono Cross...in my opinion here,this game was an awful follow up to the great Chrono Trigger on SNES. TOO many party members,most of which were useless,terrible storyline and a dumb spellcasting system. What a total disappointment.

    • @Fortefyre
      @Fortefyre  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I agree. The spellcasting color affinity nonsense really turned me off from it.

    • @pharmcat8484
      @pharmcat8484 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’ll disagree. While the spellcasting takes some getting used to, the game was good if you ignored the masterpiece it followed. And character bloat hasn’t bothered me since I discovered the Suikoden series.

      Chrono Cross is terrible. Gamespot game that trash a 10 i think

    • @tigmo55
      @tigmo55 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I have to disagree here. While I agree the game has too many party members, there’s an easy solution to that. Just focus on 7 to 8 characters you like and just ignore the rest. That’s pretty much what I do on most playthroughs. I mean to each their own, but I personally think Chrono Cross has a great storyline, one of the best soundtracks of all time, and great gameplay once you understand the element system. By the way, Chrono Trigger is my all-time favorite video game (no pun intended!), but I have Chrono Criss in my top 25 easily.

    Metroid Prime 2. A game that simply took what was good about the first game and threw the baby out with the bath water. The ammo system of your beams and the requirement to hop from light bubble to light bubble drove me nuts, it was a game I dropped about halfway in because I hated the mechanics. The story was okay, but felt tacked on.

    I liked a few of these games.
    The funny thing about the 80s and 90s was that video game sequels were typically better where movie sequels were typically worse, allowing for exceptions of course.
    Ninja Gaiden 2, Super Mario 3, TMNT 2, and Double Dragon 2 were some of the best sequels I recall from that time.

      As much as I like Chrono Cross, I feel that it isn't as good as Chrono Trigger. However Chrono Cross is a decent game that still hits me in the feels often enough. Though I'm still pissed that they killed off or butchered some of my favorite characters from CT to move forward with the plot.

    Mass Effect 3 ending was bad because of EA rushed the game, not because Bioware couldn't do a trilogy.

    SSX On Tour: The first three games in the series are fantastic; SSX 3 might be my most played PS2 game. The fourth game adds skis to a snowboarding game, the races were retreads at best, and the "punk" aesthetic they were going for completely fails. The series, heck the entire snowboarding genre, was never able to truly recover.

    Your Bioware list addendum: True that Baldur's Gate had 2 main games, but each got expansions, and the expansion pack to BG2: Shadows of Amn, Throne of Bhaal, was the final chapter of the same story and continued the Bhaalspawn saga, so together they were already known as a "Bladur's Gate Trilogy..." Also, Second KOTOR wasn't done by Bioware, but by Obsidian, same people who made Neverwinter Nights 2. Back then they were THE "clunky best RPG sequel on crunch" dev. Speaking of NWN, original game had two full-sized expansions, which are, IMO, better campaigns that OC... Second NWN had also two: a direct story sequel Mask of the Betrayer, and an unrelated expansion Storm of Zehir, which made you create a separate team... they absolutely wanted to milk franchises OG BG series alone is more than 10 discs!
    Also for franchising BG2, Bioware licensed the Infinity engine out and published Icewind Dale 1 & 2 and also Planescape Torment, all developed by Black Isle (Fallout 2 devs) and a lesser known series, Konung, by some orks. I'm sure they wanted to do the same with later games as their engine was showing up right there with brand logos, and some of them had a toolset bundled, Aurora engine from NWN1 was actually licensed to a small Polish firm that distributed discs, they adapted some a book by a local writer, Andrzej Sapkowski... not like they gonna adapt Witcher on Netlix right? But Odyssey engine for KOTOR was only used for its sequel, and whatever they used for NWN2 (Electron, I had to Google) was an unfinished buggy mess. No wonder they switched to heavily modified thirp party engines like Unreal and now Frostbite.

    • @vxicepickxv

      NWN2 wasn't made by Bioware. It was made by Obsidian. It's kind of weird how Atari just handed the title to a different company and told them to hurry up and make a sequel.

    I was so hyped for Mass Effect 3 played Demo over and over even the multiplayer in it, but on release? The first dream sequence I understood something gone wrong... I dropped the game before getting to Priority: Earth, and spared myself the ending until years later, when it had tons of updates and Citadel DLC (which is easily the best part of ME3) and MODS. In fact, third game remains my least fav Mass Effect, with 2 on top, then 1, followed by Andromeda and only then 3. It's still a good game, just so disappointing.

    Hot Take - for me, MK dropped off after the 3rd game until MK9 brought it back with a vengeance.
    also i've not had too much experience with Point and Clickers, but the ones that i have played were excellent. Broken Sword II, Blazing Dragons, PANIC for SEGA CD, Telltale's Sam and Max Series and The Walking Dead to boot. while they stopped being a common game archetype, they still existed in gaming since their golden age with quality titles.

    Pronounced "Ray-gen," kind of like what they renamed Raiden on the home versions of Mortal Kombat. And I can't get rid of those numbers at the end.
    Yeah, Shenmue III... did not deserve a sequel. Yakuza deserves all those sequels, but Shenmue III should have been the finale for that franchise. We were waiting twenty years for this, and now you're telling us "to be continued?" No! End it now! Ryo was a teenager in the 1980s... he's got to be sixty now! How is he supposed to get revenge for his dead father, while living in a retirement home?

    Double Dragon 3 for the NES is a sequel I was extremely disappointed with. After playing the second one which I thought was cool, I was pumped for the third one but ended up stunned and annoyed. Track and Field part 2 was a letdown for me as well. It had more events which was cool but I still enjoyed the original game way much more.

      @@NateTheGnatthat’s a great point! I actually love the third Double Dragon game but then again I grew up playing that one almost as much as the others. The key with DD3 is getting over the hump and beating the second stage of the game. Overtime, you accumulate more characters and therefore you have more lives than the initial one. It’s a really great game once you understand the nuances of it. It’s probably my favorite game in the Double Dragon series too.

The first game was just fine for using companion abilities why make it so they are basically worthless the second time around?

    Kingdom Hearts 2 is my favorite game in the franchise. WCW Nitro was a terrible game after the respectable WCW/NWO World Tour had released. Here's a two extremely disappointing sequels (in no order)...I have a bunch more, but theses are just two off of the top of my head and something I vividly remember being disappointed by as a kid.
    1) Toejam and Earl 2: Panic on Funkotron
    Here's a sequel to not just one of my favorite Genesis games but one of my favorite games of all-time, and something I played for what seem like forever, mainly because just how unique, fun and the truly amazing multiplayer experience...I got SO hyped up the sequel on to find out it they took basically all the elements that made the first game so special and unique, and turned it into an generic action platformer with the only thing it does really good is the style and graphics.
    Don't get me wrong, it's not horrible or a "bad" game, in and of itself, but as an actual sequel it totally and completely fails in a quite epic fashion IMO. It was a game that burned into my head the lesson that just because it's based on a great franchise, Does NOT mean it'll be good as the first game or even be like the first in any way, in this case.
    2.) Ghoul Patrol (for SNES)
    Another game that I absolutely love the original (Zombies Ate My Neighbors!) and similarly to TJ&E2 I went into thinking "YES! Finally ZAMN is geting a legit sequel, I've been waiting for this for SO long!", but unlike TJ&E II, Ghoul Patrol kept the same basic game-play but messed with the mechanics and controls just enough that it actually felt like a step back instead of a sequel.
    Combine that with the overall lack of polish, really bad level design, and bad hit detection, especially when you compared to the first game, which just felt so well made and almost like a passion project. GP ultimately just felt like rushed or low-effort cash-grab that was made just to cash in on the success of the first game.
    It was only till I later when I found out that it wasn't made by the original team at LucasArts that made the first game, but instead by some outside studio, and on top of that, it wasn't even originally going to be a ZAMN sequel but a completely different game that just used the SNES ZAMN game engine but since they didn't like how that game turned out, at the last second decided to turn it into a quick & dirty ZAMN sequel. Which makes just how such a great & popular game got such a bad sequel from a studio that generally has an otherwise great track record make a LOT much more sense

    Dragon Age 2. DAO was amazing. 2 was hot garbage and even its developers don't try to claim otherwise and just whine about EA not giving them enough time (even though at the time they claimed it was exactly what they envisioned and they wouldn't change anything even with another year). Sarcastic Hawke is funny as hell. That's it. That's the game's ONLY redeeming feature. The gameplay is awful, the story makes no sense, and BW's biggest selling point for its games, the meaningful (well, as meaningful as design allows) choices was non-existent. The game only gives you choices to be polite, it will slap your hand away if you pick the wrong one. You can oppose the evil religious fantatics at EVERY step and the resistance will still think you're their puppet because that's what the plot says. You can be siding with the fanatics against the insane blood mages but you're still forced to keep a blood mage and an abomination in your group the whole game. My favorite part is early on when this priestess tries to get you killed. You can ask why you shouldn't kill her. They make a whole big point about how no one knows where she is or who she's consorting with, so there's no way the crime can be connected to you, and she sure as hell wouldn't win a fight. She basically says "because I have plot armor, now piss off" and Hawke makes a sad face and pisses off. This pile of shit is the Daikatana of western RPGs.
