You give AMAZING directions!! You speak clearly and concisely. Most are done too slowly and give way to many details that aren’t needed. The camera shows what you’re doing so that’s all we need. There’s always rewind. If someone needs basic skills, theres many videos that will help. Hats off to you. Keep up the good work.
I've watched a ton of videos on how to make a bag similar to this. You are the only one that addresses the difficult step of sewing the side seam that has the zipper pull. I am really struggling with this but your video shows this step close up. Most videos only show them sewing the other side seam that does not have the zipper pull. Thank you for showing the "difficult" side. Best video yet. I'm inspired to try again.
My goodness! What an amazing teacher you are! What you teach moves along at a nice pace and you don't miss a trick. Thank you. Off to purchase the pattern.
I'm in love with this. I'm in the process of starting to do 50, yes 50 for my upcoming craft show!!!!!!!!!! You are an amazing designer and instructor, thank you sew much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, Melissa, I think this is your best tutorial yet! 🤗 I should have watched it before sewing the side seams with the zipper pulls. The lining fabric you used really made your Zip-N-Grip pop! 🎉🎉🎉
How very ironic! During the holidays, I saw a bag very similar to yours in a promotional ad from a company overseas. I was studying the pictures to try and see if I could come up with my own pattern. But I'm not quite at the pattern making stage, lol. I'm so happy that you made an even better bag than the one I saw. Thank you for another great pattern!
love the idea, bit it "seams" like this is a much more time intensive project than other similar bags... quilting cotton or not, some of those seams are way too thick, my semi-industrial would def struggle....just makes me want an industrial more and more...thank you for the video!!!!
You're welcome. I have a semi-industrial and I didn't have any issue with the five I made. It's a quick fun sew. The binding provides a "spine" for the bag giving it lots of structure. Feel free to to join our Facebook Group and check out all the Zip-N-Grips customers have been making. Some are on their third and fourth bags. Lots of inspiration! facebook.com/groups/sewyours
Just bought the pattern, can't wait to sew it up. This will be excellent for camping and other vacations! Might have to make one for the husband, too! And my sons, and grandchildren...!
I made one. Very cute bag and fun to make. I was intimidated by the closing up the area near the zipper pull, but my skinny presser foot made it very doable. Next time I'll use two zipper pulls. Thanks for the tutorial.
Hi Melissa! You did it again! This is so stink’n cute! I love the versatility of this bag! I already bought the pattern and this is what I’m working on today! I was having a sewing slump and this pattern has ignited my energy to create again! Thanks Melissa!
Love this! It looks a lot easier than the method I used to put one of these together. Mine turned ever so slightly skewed because I didn’t understand how to sew the zipper ends to the bottom of the bag. 😅 Your method is so much clearer. Love your pattern.❤
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I made my first bag and it came out amazingly well. I could have not done so well without the tutorial. Love the bag and will be making more.
I love this bag and ready to buy it, however would it effect how the bag opens and closes if I hand stitched to center divider to the back to keep things from moving form side to side?
I really love this bag great tutorial. Can you really make this on a domestic machine. I am afraid my Janome MQ200 would struggle with the thicker parts.
Hi Tiffany, we just got all caught up with orders and we do have a very small quantity left. I've just updated the website if you'd like to purchase before they are sold out. I will be reordering more but it may be 6-8 weeks before they arrive. sewyours.com/collections/sewing-notions/products/rose-gold-vinyl-clips
Hi there! You sure have some amazing skill, Great tutorial! Could you please let me know what machines/supplies I need to invest in to do rivets? I saw that you had a little rivet hole punch and a press? Thank you so much.
I would all a half inch to the length of the handle and then fold in the short raw edges first, then fold the long raw edges as directed in the pattern. This will make sure that your short ends are no long raw. The same process can be repeated for the handle connectors.
I purchased this at Joann Fabrics. I think with i the last 3-6 months. It's one of their keepsake calico prints. The selvage doesn't say anything else on it.
Would love to know where to get a marking pen like yours. Thought I saw an info pop up on one of your videos but can’t remember which one , if you could let me know that would be awesome.
For dark vinyl I use moremeknow.com/collections/marking-pens/products/silver-ink-marking-pen-sew-busy-single and for everything else I use amzn.to/48jgvhT
I am about to start mine but l am very curious if the inner zipper pocket could be larger??? I want to put my brushes in this pocket but right now it is looking too short for it.
You could put the brushes in the center pocket depending on the length of your brushes. You could also modify the pattern and increase it in length by 2"-4".
@@melissamartin9005 ooh great idea! What is the finished sized of the middle? Sorry first time working on something a more complex than what l normally do with quilts.
Is there any reason why you couldn’t sew the bottom right sides together, then turn out and top stitch before adding it to the main body in order to avoid the need for binding?
Birthing this bag wouldn't work it doesn't require the binding construction. I am trying to think if a drop in lining construction would work as a hack but I don't even think that would.
I sell them, but I just sold out today. I'll be placing a new order with my supplier soon so hopefully, I'll have them restocked in about 6 weeks as it takes a bit to have them produced. sewyours.com/collections/sewing-notions/products/rose-gold-vinyl-clips
I purchased the pattern and ready to make this. I can not find a pattern piece for the handle and connectors. Can please tell me tell me the dimensions for each? Thanks
Melissa, I do have a question about your stitches. Your topstitching is so beautifully visible. Mine seem to almost sink into the vinyl or faux leather, even when I lengthen them. Are you using a specific type of thread? Or is it the difference between a domestic and an industrial machine? Thank you.
Rita, I'm using Tex 70 Thread from Siah Swag Bags for my upper thread and Tex 45 Thread in my bobbin since my Juki TL18QVP (Semi-Industrial) can't handle the 70 in the bobbin. siahswagbags.com/collections/threads
Could someone please point me in the right direction to find out where the zipper pocket/facing instructions are in the pattern. Other than coming on here to watch how it's done I'm stuck.
I use a semi-industrial. Juki TL18QVP I put a link to my machine in the video description. If you're working with a domestic machine I would recommend making your first in all quilting cotton and then determine if you can make your next one with vinyl/cotton.
Dang that zipper at the end is impossible lol 😂 the stapler didn’t work, I can’t move my zipper pull out of the way to save my life.. idk how I will bind it. I don’t have a narrow zipper foot. 😢 I’m not sure if I’ll be able to finish this bag haha 😂 everything else came together good though! Thank you for this pattern it is so very cute!
How about pulling the zipper pull up a little and putting a pin across the zipper teeth? Then sew while the bag is in the "taco" position. That should do it. The last resort would be hand sewing that section if you aren't able to do it.
The pattern pieces say to cut 4 woven interfacing for some of the pieces.....but your video says no interfacing, I am confused by this two different directions
Woven interfacing should be used on all quilting cotton pieces only. Stabilizer is needed for some of the pieces which is noted in the cutting guide and pattern pieces provided for. Follow your cutting guide.

@@margaretmurph3609 The measurements are provided on page 25 of the pattern under the Imperial Cutting Guide.
Do you have a pattern for a smaller size Zip-N-Grip?
No, I don't.
In order to keep the zipper pull away from the ends when the last portion of the bag are stitched, would a double zip pull work to avoid that?
No that would make it more difficult
What is the name of the rivet ruler you used?
It’s the Rivet Pal which you can get on my website www.sewyours.com
