- Join us in this new style of casual Vlog content called `JDM Masters RAW` Captbradford takes you on a journey to check out places around Japan to give a real look at interesting shops and locations that aren`t only about car or automotive related things but also explore the real Japan in 2021.
In this first instalment we go to a big chain shop Called `Hobby Off` and `Garage Off`. As the interesting use of English applies, the `Off` refers to price off or discount. Merchandise is primarily made up off used goods that people bring to sell to the shop and is cleaned, packaged, categorised and resold. The biggest chain of this company is known as `Book Off`, a shop that stocks used manga, CDs, DVD, Blu Ray dics and other media. We visit a joint chain of `House Off` `Hobby Off` `Garage Off` to show you one of the ways that Capt finds old 80-90s car catalogues, brochures, magazines and even old and rare Tomica die casts. A lots of the items are in acceptable condition but not unusable which makes it great for the majority of people looking for good bargain collectables. While online retail in Japan like Yahoo Auction and Mercari are also great ways to look for old treasure, there is nothing like the thrill of `hunting` for stuff and checking the condition before deciding on the purchase. Because, `one man`s junk is another man`s treasure`

@@ImpairedDriver2XP Agreed, so greedy they even managed to mess up the South East Asia JDM used/breakers prices to a point that its cheaper and better deal for me owning a Speed3 and get the aftermarket support from US.

The used resell market is wild in Japan. Couldn’t imagine such a place in the states. I think if they opened such a chain here business would would be booming.
that's because It costs money to throw stuff away its better to sell your stuff for cheap, both the customer and Store gets a win win.

here in SoCal we have several BookOffs and EcoTown stores all within my area. However here I think they incorporated Hobby Off Into BookOff sine the BookOff stores here also sell action figure items from Japan, model kits, Card Games, etc. I guess just to avoid confusion to Americans with so many different stores.

This is fantastic! As a board gamer, too, I have always been amazed at Suruga-Ya and Yellow Submarine in Akihabara. This shop looks like another version of heaven.

Thank you for the feedback. Yes it was quite difficult to adjust the level of volume between music and voice. This time the footage was shot on an iPhone with the native microphone. The next time will be better. Cheers

Are you familiar with 1999 Proton Satria GTi? There is a Japanese student in Malaysia bought one and shiped it back to Tokyo or Osaka in early 2000.
It was moded in Japan by TODA with iTB and appeared in OPTION magazine. It would be great if YOU, The Choosen One could track the car. You could Google the magazine's write up. It made over 200whp in 1.8cc NA with no MiVEC system. Domo, Domo✌
