Going Against the Grain with Your D&D Character: You're Doing It Wrong!

  • Every know and then you get the urge to make a character who is a Fish Out of Water. For instance, my best friend once played a Spartan hoplite warrior...in an Oriental Adventures game.
Doing this well requires even more buy in the world the GM has crafted than running something that is designed to be there.
How do I know you're doing it wrong? Nearly every story about a character that's whistling Stranger in Paradise is one of those "RPG Horror Stories"

Hey man, glad to find a fellow automotive masochist lol. I love the 280zx, this one is my 5th but it is my first truly collectable car. How's the rust on yours? Turbo or N/A?

The redemption arc trope is always tough to pull off especially if it means you start off being a jerk to your party ..
really should only be used in long time groups who understand each other not first times or with newbies

It really shouldn't mean you be a jerk to the party. It is certainly not easy, but honestly unless that's a clearly stated feature of the character that the other players are cool playing along with, I think you're doing it wrong if you're character is being a jerk to the rest of the group.

It requires alot of setup and definitely not for a first time meeting or one shot as it takes time to establish and more time to have them come around ...you have to answer the question why does he desire to join the party 🤔 and make it a good enough reason to go against their own character trope

I believe that the overall motivation should generally be the same, it's just the behavior and decision making process that should largely change, at least until near the end of the campaign

Antithetical definition is a cooperative evil party. Without good, evil has no purpose, and eill devour itself/one another.
Good encourages cooperation and does Not require evil other thsn as an object lesson of whst Not to be.
The lones are increasingly blurred between 'fantasy' and 'reality'

I honestly don't see the lines as blurred at all.
The issue you have is a difference in the type of fantasy. Some of us want a fantasy world to play out characters and adventures in.
The modern players want a personal power fantasy where they can self-insert and act without negative consequences and judgements using levels of power and influence they don't possess in real life.

Honesty no one is actually honest, unless there are consequences of material dispossession, be it resources or desired companionship. Even then, neay all will simply calculate a risk/reward for the considered deception. In addition, most folk actual prefer an attractive fabrication to a less palatable truth. This is observable in the abstract and directly empirically if one had such experience in commerce. This, and some more charismatic/connected folk are professional deceivers/duplicitous doppelgangers well compensated performers/narrators that pacify an enthralled population (s)
Thus, only am authority Beyond human construct, yet benevolent and
omnipresent is the exclusive succor for the Honest, the Just, the compassionate.

What doea this Channel thnk about 'woke' characters/players/gms?

That they should be largely ignored. They paid their money to buy books to play how they want at their tables, but their behavior is generally cancerous and allowing their ideas and demands to influence the actual products and policies of the hobby itself will kill it in time.

The division betwen fantasy and so called reality is increasingly blurred. This is obvious to all who care to know. Inherent buas is a marxust misnomer , wwll established in Woke propaganda.

    • @drivinganddragons1818
      @drivinganddragons1818  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Not necessarily. Yes, inherent bias as a singular term is a neo-Marxist buzzword that essentially means nothing.
However as two seperate words, denoting something which is biased by its very nature, is simply descriptive. For instance, an atomistic individualist has an inherent bias against alignment. The very nature of reducing reality to your own perspective mean that you will be biased against objective truth, particularly moral truth.
