Yeah I understand. The Lake Nona expansions are important but beautiful nature areas like Split Oak Forest are going to be constructed over and ruined, which is personally sad since I frequently hike there.
So far NEOCITY is a dud for Osceola County. Locals have no idea what's going on over there and there is virtually no attempt to alleviate traffic along highway 192. There are homes being built but none in the actual NEOCITY. If you want to work in that area anticipate hours of extra driving, few new shopping opportunities and huge numbers of current residents complaining about what seems like out of control growth. The county says they are managing controlled growth but very few believe that.
I live in the Kelly Park area and track local development. It's getting insane around here. There's 16,000 planned units going in over the next 2-4 years and 3 or 4 "downtown districts" including a revamping of the 46 between Sorrento and Mt Plymouth. Also, 14 roundabouts coming to this area.
I drive needs a Vegas style monorail from universal to epic, connecting i-drive, the pointe and the convention center. If/when the north side of i-drive (north of Sand lake) gets a Southside style remodel, the whole area will be bumper to bumper.
Orlando needs to worry on their mass transfer infrastructure. They literally have three train systems. I don’t know if the sun rails considered train or light tram but whatever. And only one of them connect to the airport. And none of them go out to Port Canaveral to the cruise terminals except for the bright line and it still doesn’t go all the way out. Unless they get some more trains around there, they’re the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen other trains. Go to the theme park either. And they don’t run at night and they don’t run on the weekends. Come on your whole city is built on tourism why would you not have stuff running at night and on the weekends and to your airport and to your major theme parks. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Really great input! I don’t think the sudden growth was anticipated and improvements with gradual growth were. But now that the problems are illuminated, solutions are in the works.

All these projects are very spread out, checkout St Petersburg , great city layout, street grid easy to navigate, lots of great neighborhoods near each other, downtown very cohesive, Orlando just way to spread out, focused to much on cookie cutter suburbs
I think of it more like the Las Vegas strip. Something like the Las Vegas monorail system would even translate nicely to i-drive to alleviate some traffic and make it easier for tourists.
How is there still no local transit from MCO to Universal, Disney Springs, etc? Not bright line but a sunrail-like system? Even Denver has a 40 minute train from their ok downtown to the airport
Love the idea of a more cohesive thought process for downtown, nothing seems planned. Mills for example is a bustling area on the weekends, but there is no infrastructure, hardly any crosswalks or beautification. Like come on Orlando, add some trees and a bit more safety.
What really concern me is that most of the bus stops here on 192 don't have a bus shade with no seats they only have the bus sign and a bench. They need the state of the art bus shade that tell you when the next bus is coming and also it would be cool if they made the bus shelter with air conditioner as you wait for the bus.
The problem is is that when you have a bus stop with decent shade and seats it acquires permanent residence by way of individuals who either don’t want to go home or don’t have a home. There are several bus stops in our area that I don’t feel comfortable approaching Because of the people that hang out/live there.
@@naomibrandt3260 nobody don't won't to stand at a bus stop with the sun barring down on them for like 30 minutes. At least they can build a bus shade so you can go inside just in case in might rain and have nice air conditioner inside as you wait for the bus to arrive just my opinion....

@kenpozek People are flocking to Orlando, and new housing and cool spots are popping up everywhere. But one thing I’ve noticed is that they’re not adding supermarkets or mega stores like Sam's Club or Costco to keep up with the growing population. No wonder all the stores are packed and product shortages are a regular thing! Do you have any details about new stores coming to Orlando?
Thanks for the update Ken. I have not seen these places going up on 192, and we were just there a week or two ago. Looking forward to finding them and checking them out. Usually we just end up going towards celebration or the disney area.
I just moved in next to the sand lake / I-4 intersection. Traffic is horrendous all the time, but I see lots of road work. Any idea when that is scheduled to finish? and if it will help relieve the congestion around here?
I live on turkey lake and the construction there is supposed to take the exit off i4 onto sand lake and divert it some of it directly on to turkey lake. With, what seems like new construction everywhere I don’t see how this going to help. It’s shitty already. It’s just going to get worst.
Widening of roads never alleviate traffic. The only way to get less traffic is to reduce the number of cars on the road. That means alternate options and more efficient methods of public transportation.
You know what would make commuting easier? Spend that money on better public transportation like more light rail and a better bus system and take a bunch of cars off the road.
No it wouldn't work in central Florida. Too spread out. Had they developed this city as a traditional grid style maybe. But it's too late to ever have something working.
What do you think about the Ocoee moratorium on new permits? Seems positive. I listened to the commissioner meeting where the moratorium passed and the Ocoee leadership was saying all the right things: walkability, good design, interconnectivity, landscape buffers....
I love the train or tram from universal to the new universal park. Oh wait! They rather but more buses and car on sandlake & John young 🤦♂️ looks good on paper but will be a mess. Work 3 blocks from I-drive & in front of the new epic universe. Hopefully they will put a monorail system.
I just moved here from Chicago and it's great to see this city growing so much. Chicago has amazing architecture and I wonder if Orlando would start to grow up more adding taller buildings here? Fleshing out the city to have a smaller skyline?
Downtown Orlando has a significant height restriction on its buildings due to the FAA (its proximity to the Executive Airport). This is why our skyline seems miniscule in comparison to other metropolitan areas. Not sure why we'd put an exec airport so close to what's supposed to be one of our most concentrated areas; I wish there was the possibility of relocating it elsewhere. We'd then see ginormous buildings start to rise.
The north part of I Drive is disgusting. The strip malls between Sand Lake and the Outlets need to be bulldozed and the area redeveloped. They've done a great job heading south towards the convention center (although I still miss the Mercado!) but the north is seedy.
I just read that they ae building a sports complex , hotels 170,000square foot medical building . velencia college and apts and homes off of schofield behind the 429 , do you know if that's true and when it will be completed

We have relatives in Alafaya and Avalon. Now that the 528 goes all the way out there it is so much better plus the 417 used to be a lovely quiet “back road” but I guess that will get busier as conurbations spring up .
Maybe you can come back and highlight the destruction all this development has already caused with bad city and county planning.
