    Of course the police were worst than useless and lied and those fans inside the stadium were innocent victims, but how did the fans pushing to get into the stadium especially the minority without tickets not contribute to the disaster?

    • @ledjarde
      @ledjarde 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Lee Regan Good point Lee.....what happened was tragic, no-one's denying that....scores of innocent people died, and the subsequent lies and cover-up stinks to high heaven....But unfortunately the fans weren't entirely blameless. The police management of the crowd outside the ground was poor. A lot more should have been done to prevent ticketless fans from getting near the ground. More turnstiles should have been open (surely they should have ALL been open anyway, on such big game). These factors combined would have prevented the huge build-up of fans immediately outside the ground. The problem also lied in the fact that the crowd outside the ground contained a lot of ticketless fans (there's always a lot fans who turn up ticketless at big games, hoping to get one off a tout, or jump a turnstile, especially in the 70's and 80's), so when the exit gate was opened, it meant that WAY too many people were being shepherded into the ground, and a crush was inevitable. The fact the police failed to close the interior tunnel was a massive factor. In this instance, fans probably had no idea where to go (they were after all unfamiliar wih the ground), and just went towards the first open space they saw, oblivious to the fact they were about to cause a crush. SO...the facts: poor crowd management outside the ground, not enough open turnstiles to get fans into the ground quickly enough, too many fans without tickets seeking and getting into the ground for free (if the correct quantity of fans were gaining entry, there wouldn't have been a crush), and once inside fans weren't guided to the correct terraces. Duckenfield should have opened the tunnel, yes, no question about it, but the growing pressure he was under in those minutes is unthinkable. Such pressure makes people panic, freeze, and clouds their ability to think clearly. I'm not defending his inaction, just trying to understand it. But put all those factors together....and you have a situation that should never have happened. It was so preventable. But why does it always seem to take a tragedy like this before safety improvements are made? We're so reactive in the UK, instead of being proactive. We seem happy to run the risk of a disaster or accident happening before we implement something that would have prevented it.

    • @abprepboy33
      @abprepboy33 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +ledjarde The exit gate being opened definitely upped the risk of something bad happening in the pin (ie the crush) or on the way to the stadium entrances. Other than the gate though, there were things they could have done. their should be a guard at the entrance of all these pins (the tunnel) letting in enough for capacity and filtering the remaining fans to the next available entrance. Its even more critical to monitor "standing room only sections". If the guard posted closed the back door when it was full- it could have been avoided.
      Also one thing that nobody mentions except for one guy in the 30 for 30 video......Even after it was made clear there was a huge problem- the police had poor reaction skills. THEY NEVER OPENED THE BACK DOOR LEADING INTO THE TUNNEL!!!!! that would have been huge in relieving the crush. instead they sat there wand watched for over 30 minutes as people were being thrown through the small front entrance and jumping the fence. (All while the first couple rows of people were literally being trampled)

    • @raymondaten2179
      @raymondaten2179 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Another thing you have to concider, really years of immaturity and disrespect led to this as well. If fans would just go to a football match and enjoy themselves instead of invading the pitch, there wouldn't have been any need of having the fences up, just the advertising board. Also the fact that fans from opposite teams having to be separated and the turnstiles having to be on either end of the stadium instead of all around the stadium because people going to a football match couldn't act right. Yes this particular day, the police are most at fault, but even if the police didn't know what they were doing, but if those 2 things weren't there because of fans not acting right in the past, this wouldn't have ever happened. Hell, even with this tragedy happening, fans can still not act right.

      The thing is, the people in the back don't know what's happening up front. Everyone is moving forward and nobody is aware that those in front have nowhere to go.
      I was at a free outdoor Stevie Wonder concert about 14 years ago. At one point, I got caught up in an advancing crowd. I'm telling you, it's like being swept downstream in a river. The crowd is an unstoppable force.
      I got a bit scared and somehow made my way to the side where there was a bit more room. Nobody got hurt, but I had a tiny taste of what a human crush feels like. And I'm telling you, it's a force of nature.

      +Liam l Yes there may have been fans who turned up late after a few beers, check any football match even today, but I seriously doubt that any fans turned up to hurt fellow supporters, of course they didn't. To say they didn't play a part, in my own opinion is ludicrous, they weren't grains of sand in an egg timer they were centient human beings who chose to push on, however it was a minor part. 100% the police should have been ready to deal with it, and terrible mistakes were made, lives of good people were needlessly given away and as hard as it is for loved ones to hear mistakes happen. What is unforgivable is that the authorities strategically lied about the events and those who did have caused immeasurable pain and should be called to account.

    What caused this? GREED!! It was the naked greed of the soccer authorities selling too many tickets. Don't blame the police. The MPs are despicable, finding the wrong people guilty. About police. What could they do? Not opening the gates would have caused a fatal crush on the road leading into the stadium. Remember, the main cause was too many tickets sold!! What could have improved the aftermath of the decision by greedy football bosses. >1. CHANGE TIME The match could have been delayed. Note that greedy soccer bosses were against that, as their costs would be higher due to fans leaving later. >2. ORGANIZATION Police could have had a better command structure. I notice senior officers getting involved in the front lines - all very noble, but should be delegated to Inspectors etc, not Commanders and Superintendents. Police officers were mulling around doing nothing. So were most of the public. In such a situation, any person can and should give orders. Help the police! >3. BLAME CULTURE This is pathetic. The fans should not be blamed. Neither should police. It is a complicated situation. >4. CROWD CONTROL Much more theory and science should be applied. Crowd flow must be analyzed and entrances blocked off, if crushes are occurring further on. >5. ENGINEERING The venue was clearly too small to take these crowds, and the ticketing systems too slow. Once again, down to greed of the football bosses.
