If you have Apple TV i suggest watching her documentary called the worlds a little blurry. It will link everything to this album as well as give you a front row into her and how she came to having her debut alvym. It will make this dirst album all make sense. Trust me! Its so worth watching!!!
Ok so: -Billie only recently came out, a lot of stuff from this album looking back sounds super queer but she was actually very adamant about it being straight lol -In bad guy she’s talking about being a homewrecker and getting with a guy that already has a girlfriend, thus making the girlfriend jealous. And being with a guy’s dad behind his back. -She wrote this album when she was in a really dark place and it was her way of coping with everything so it’s pretty dark -wish you were gay is actually about a guy who wasn’t feeling her like she was feeling him and it frustrated her because she wasn’t doing anything wrong but he was just uninterested. So she wished he was gay to give his lack of interest an explanation. -8 is written from the perspective of someone she hurt. It’s also the studio version of an unreleased song previously called see-through -my strange addiction: she’s addicted to a person (crush or love interest) -bury a friend music video is good you should definitely watch it! -ilomilo is based off a video game where two lol dudes get separated and have to find each other, billie still loves the game and this song. It’s said that HMHAS was inspired by the game as well (the blue and red themes). -listen before i go is suicid@l, she wrote it to cope with the thoughts of wanting to un@live. -goodbye is a tie-together ending it doesn’t have much of it’s own meaning For the dark billie fans that struggle with the concept of living every once in a while, 988 is a free + confidential crisis hotline (USA) never forget that you are loved and your life is beautiful. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and it can exist on this earth, there are so many sunsets and cats and friends that you have yet to see and meet 💖

@@HavenReact Happy to help! I’ve been following Billie since her first release (Ocean Eyes) but as a musician I most appreciate her newest album; I think it’s absolutely a game changer. Her earlier work was just leading her up to finding her potential and getting to know herself better. She and Finneas are the perfect combo of musicians and I do appreciate their earlier work but it’s not HMHAS by any means
Not everything this person said is true. Especially “bad guy.” Billie just said she’s just trolling in that song. All you need to do is watch the rolling stone interview with billie and Finneas about the song..
@@HavenReactmy strange addiction - a lot of people feel like that song is really about the tv show “the office.” Billie is a huge fan of the show and had watched the entire series like 40 times. You also hear clips from the show throughout the song.
Funny that you mention sleep paralysis during “bury a friend.” Billie’s experiences with sleep paralysis was one of the things that inspired the song. 👏🏼
also this album has nothing to do w/ the “devil” or wtv, she simply made this album based on sleep paralysis. it was a whole idea she had and she even had a journal where she literally drew what the album was supposed to “look like”, the vibe of it. Which is where she took most inspiration for the music videos, making the majority of people think she was worshiping the devil. Also billie did this album when she was around 16-17 maybe even younger, she was at a low point of her life, as you listened to ‘i love you’ and ‘listen before i go’ they were both obviously about her leaving this world. not to mention the song bury a friend, she quotes “i wanna end me” multiple times, she said in a interview she was most definitely talking about ending herself, she mentioned the reason she writes these very personal and depressing songs is because she would rather make the way shes feeling into art rather than hurting herself, if that makes sense.
@@kayikza thank you for giving me context on the album❤️I needed this! I’m new to decoding music especially on a first listen. But yes I do love her music for how deep she put things into perspective that forces me to think.
I only actively listened to Billie 6 weeks ago. I hope you enjoy your journey as much as I have. Something to love in each one, stuff I didn't know was Billie but are so iconic how did I miss them? And then there are the music videos!! Live performances -- oh, the Oscars, both times, Happier Than Ever at the Grammys !!!!
All the good girls go to hell is about global warming. She makes several comments like the waters rising and California is on fire and if you watch the music video the all the good girls go to hell. She is in turmoil with birds, and she has wings on. All of her creepy/scary song have a real world meaning behind them. You can even find the interview where she talks about how so many ppl took some of her songs wrongly and how all the good girls go to hell is about global warming.
lol..the last song “goodbye” is basically lyrics from all the previous songs songs in one outro song.. “It’s not true” - from I love you “Take me to the roof” - from listen before I go “Told you not to worry” - from ilomilo “What do you want from me” from bury a friend “Don’t ask questions” - from strange addiciton “Wait a minute” from 8 “Don’t you know I’m no good for you” from when the party’s over “Baby I don’t feel so good” from wish you were gay “All the good girls go to hell” from..well.. ^^ “Bite my tongue, bide my time” from you should see me in a crown “What is it about them?” From xanny “I’m the bad guy” from..well..bad guy..

xanny - anti drug song. So dope that she makes music like that. I hope she never gets lost in drugs or alcohol. She has a team and a family that truly cares for her and tries to keep shit like that away from her. You should really watch/react to the documentary about her that came out in 2021. It’s called “the world’s a little blurry.” You get to know her better. See her sense of humor. Who she was at the time..and who she becomes. Behind the scenes looks at this album being made.
for my strange addiction theres no meaning shes trying to hint that shes addicted to a certain thing, especially drugs. She wrote xanny to explain how the environment and people she surrounds herself with drown themselves in drugs etc, saying she doesnt want to live that lifestyle and surround herself with people like that. so no she has no addiction whatsoever, HOWEVER, there are some phrases in my strange addiction that are from “the office” a show that she explained in a interview that she would watch a lot, so basically her “strange addiction”, overall the song was just meant for people to relate to it somehow to think about THEIR strange addiction, lol.
