“The physical part is super easy.” Barely an inconvenience! Anyone recognize this? :) Just discovered this channel. Great stuff, especially the exercise routines. Thanks.
WHOA! Mind blown. I feel stupid writing this, but I never really thought about starting the ball at a less downward trajectory, and keeping the ball higher to make it kick higher. I always just kinda thought it was about how much topspin I put on the ball. Great explanation!
Great video. I’ll send a link to friends. Something else I discovered: if I hold my racket up at my desired point of contact before a serve, it improves my toss and gives me a location to work for when I do serve.
great lesson. I like how you simplified the difference bw the "kick" and topspin, and emphasized that it is a choice and can be played with for variety or strategic reasons.
It was super helpful. Especially tip 3, I actually watched it several times to make sure I remember it so I can practice it on the court next time. Thank you :)
I normally get zero kick in my "kick" serve but it's usually effective because i use it simply as a disguised slower serve that messes up the opponent's timing because they thought a flat serve was coming. I however thought that the reason it didn't kick was because i don't toss the ball over my head...i keep it in front then manipulate my leg drive to get into a position where i can use the kick swing. Having watched this video, i practiced getting the ball to go up more and i got very admirable kick🥳🥳🥳 i also got it to kick both away from and into the body of the opponent 🥳🥳🥳🥳 Cheers bro💪🏾👌🏾
Great lesson coach. I usually do 2nd serve just creating heavy spin so the ball bounces high. But if facing a higher level opponet, he can easily crush my serve.
@@kpurnawan irs all about figuring out where they are most comfortable and just avoiding that spot. If you know how to adjust the height it helps big time
I practiced this yesterday and eventually started getting it to kick closer to shoulder height🎉🎉 I don't like tossing the ball over my head because I prioritize deception of the opponent. But what I was benefiting from was a disguised slower serve that throws off the opponent's swing timing. I didn't realize I could toss the ball into the could as normal but still get decent luck. Thanks again. Your videos help a lot. Keep up the great work👌🏾
I love this video. i am working my way through your videos and they are so helpful. I'm a 4.5 player trying to break through to start beating the 5.0's in my league, and your videos are awesome for helping me make the tweaks I need to raise my game.
Another great video! Thoughts from a low middling club player: The baby flat serve is an asset at the sub 3.5 level because players rarely have aggressive shots and if they do, they miss constantly, so just getting every second serve in results in winning most of your matches. At 3.5 and higher, that serve just tees your opponent up for a return winner every time. I hit that ceiling two years ago and had to commit to about 8 months of losing to get the baby flat serve and the false feeling of "controlling" my spin out of my system. Now I can hold serve against 3.5 and 4.0 level players with spin second serves that force neutral or defensive returns (and sometimes errors) from even stronger players. I just wanted to reaffirm your statement of the importance of commitment to this learning process :)
Doood - so true: Commitment is the most important thing - and giving consistency a hard time 🥴. At least I am trying to be consistently commited, yo 😅!
I really enjoy your videos, can you please make more videos about the serve. kick, flat, fundamentals, racket drop, and most importantly the good mechanics on how to raise elbow for shoulder over shoulder rotation and avoid sideway shoulders rotation
@@ironwilltennis Yes please, I would really appreciate it. I hear a lot about raising the elbow, but it hasn't been working when I try to deliberately raise the elbow. Is there a different approach or mechanics that raising the elbow or the racket drop becomes the byproduct of a proper form?
Thanks for replying to my question. Will start with give the committing not being all about racket head speed some thought. Certainly in the past I have taken commitment = swing faster and that perhaps leads to wilder swings which aren't reliable. I will instead think about attempting to always execute a full action with intent and see how that goes.
Great content, really fan of this channel. Could you please make a video on the 1 handed backhand? How to be aggressive with it ?I see no video about it. Thanks!!!
great video; sometimes though it's better to go to a slice serve at least as a change up. Last time I play a guy not very tall but he loved to hit a jumping 2H-Backhand. It was startling b/c at my level I don't see that shot but he was consistent w/ it so I change to putting more body serves or silce.
Great content. We need to get you a better camera. The soft focus of the entire video was really distracting. What you said, and how you demo was great. Sound was great. Camera is letting you down. Thanks for all the hard work to put these videos together.
Good video. It would have been clearer to me if you demonstrated the two spin option you gave (out the court over the doubles line, or into the court like a top spin shot) a little slower and more deliberately. I think you tried, but I still can not picture what the racquet is doing differntly at the heighth of the toss when it strikes the ball and how to make that happen. Enjoying your content, looking forward to more.
Hi Will. Just discovered and subscribed to your channel. Excellent, super helpful content. I have a question / a kind request for a video tutorial: I play with 3.0-4.5 range players, and I struggle with taking advantage of low-pace/medium-bounce first or second serves . They are easy to over-hit, and if I am too careful, I give the opponent a return shot that is good for them. Do you have any solid strategy for how to take advantage of these weak serves?
Please explain the difference between a spin serve , a kick serve and topspin serve? I have a serve that I brush from 6 to 12 (that I took me all the way to Nationals at 3.5 level) , sending the up over the net 15 feet, and went it bounces , it bounces 10 feet to the right away from the receiver . Is this a spin serve??
Nice video. I agree with what you said. However, a lot of pros will have very little net clearance on their kicker. They toss into the court and drive that ball downwards. This is probably too advanced of a topic for this forum but maybe one day you can make a short video on how they do this. Thanks.
i can explain the difference quickly. if you start with the basic concept I'm teaching in this video, you are guaranteed to have the bounce height you want, no matter your level. As you advance and your racquet speed gets faster, you ball start to drop to the ground incrementally faster. Which means it hits the ground with more force thus bouncing higher. Most prost are over 6 foot which definitely helps but when you are hitting these levels of acceleration you will be able to aim slightly lower. Here is an example th-cam.com/video/0edfZQPFeDc/w-d-xo.html Then someone as tall as this th-cam.com/video/VuP46vGBHMA/w-d-xo.html
@@ironwilltennis Thanks for the response. Fed is 6-1 which is the same as Thiem's but his kicker seems lower than Thiem's on this video: th-cam.com/users/shortsMRUiC4Kppg8?feature=share. Fed has a lot of variety in his kicker and he can vary his net clearance.
Sorry if my question appear unrelated, but I wonder how do you mix tennis games schedule with muscle building exercise schedule and with food intake schedule?
I don't. I feel like that just adds another layer if something that can be a little off without noticing. I do know people that do change grips but not many.
I have a consistent Kick serve , but as i try to add more pace to it tendsvto go long. So my kick serve just end up kicking high and sitting up, any pointers would be appreciated
Do you mind sharing what your racket setup is? it looks like a vcore95 with some weight at 10 and 2? What strings/tension are you using? I play with a vcore95 so I'm curious haha
Good eyes 👀 very astute. Vcore 95 Tourna power weights because they are pre-cut and uniform and easy to keep the setup identical from one racquet to another. Strings are Head Hawk Power strung at 50lbs. Babolat leather grip, Wilson overgrip
