      The first time I went to mass, I called ahead and asked someone to sit with me and help me with the missal. They kind of thought I was crazy! Haha but I was introduced to some religious ed instructors and a sister who became a friend. Very welcoming, but not like some churches where everyone knows your new. Catholic Churches are usually very large, and often have visitors every week. So you will probably blend in. Soak it all up friend !! And also, every parish can be a little (even a lot) different. Try a few in your area.

      Definitely not all of a sudden my friend. The Lord has been waiting for you, and saw how nervous you were. So He consoled you, and has given you this amazing video, so that you may enjoy Mass!!! Even as a cradle Catholic, this video for me was a wake up call. I hope you had a wonderful experience :) God bless!!

    Being an adult convert from Protestantism, I’ve always loved the responsorial Psalm. I always read the psalms growing up but didn’t necessarily think of them as songs. I think it’s one of the coolest things about mass (among many). Something about putting the psalms to music just makes my heart happy And helps me remember key verses at least. I’m so thankful for the mass!!! 😀

This method helps me to be as fully absorbed as I can be, not thinking of the outside, and things I have to do. Blessings, Norma

    I have reflected on the 5 points that you have shared about participating at Mass and totally agree with them. However, all my life I have found the music at Mass to be more of a distraction, especially during Communion. After receiving Communion I feel pressured to hurry up and join in the singing when I'd rather take the time in silence to reflect on Who it is I have just received. I would prefer that singing be done after all have received Communion and the priest is cleansing the vessels.

    @/askascension - Can you talk about each week the mass is so beautifully assembled. The Psalms, The Old Testament, Acts, Gospels, Epistle Readings, The Music and The Homily are all chosen as a theme. Those parts of the service are not just selected at random. A LOT of preparation goes into EVERY MASS. Most people don't even know that and completely miss it. Its really great when you know what is going on.

  • @TheSean7564

    Fr. Mark Mary, awesome video. In part three you mentioned offering, among other things, our sufferings. In part one you mention arriving early. If it was up to me I would arrive an hour early to enjoy the peace and to "get ready". I think from now on I can combine the two! I can (part three) offer the suffering I endure when (God forbid!) we arrive in the parking lot 15 minutes before Mass and my youngest starts in with "Oh my head! We're like the only ones here! Is there even a Mass? Why are we sooooo early?! Etc."
    Now, in addition to using those minutes before Mass to remind them that since we have sooooo much time before Mass I don't expect anyone to have to use the bathroom during the next hour AND now I can use the experience as something small to offer to the Good Lord, Whom I believe as the Creator of all humor, must sympathize with parents who "enjoy" this weekly ritual ... the one outside the church.
    God Bless you and the other Friars. I knew Fr. Benedict and have always admired the work you all do. Love, Sean

    MRI scans have discovered that people who have suffered traumatic childhood abuse suffer when simply getting ready for something. The rational side of their brains get less active and the emotional side gets more active, causing them to be chronically late. So chronic lateness is not always from disrespect. Nor is it always controllable.

    • @pearlescobar9449
      @pearlescobar9449 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I think in a serious state like this it’s understandable when someone is late like that! Even Fr. Mark Mary brings up that sometimes being late can’t be helped, like parents with children. I don’t think Father is trying to demean anyone who is late when it can’t be helped or in serious circumstances, he just wants those people who AREN’T in serious circumstances to prioritize coming in on time a bit more. Peace be with you love, and thank you for raising awareness to those souls who have suffered abuse❤️❤️💖

I’ve already asked that my friend introduces “The Hallow Application” to these people who attend this auditorium... my prayers will be endless to bring these people to “The Church” as opposed to an auditorium with no “Blessed Sacrament” ... “Jesus, I adore you, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament...”. I’m a Eucharistic Minister and it really helps me to be more involved in mass because I’m giving the body and blood of Christ to others and I assist in setting up the mass so I must know how to properly and reverently dress the altar. It’s very fulfilling.

      I dislike Eucharistic ministery , we don’t have consecrated hands. I love that my priest and the deacon will personally give every host no matter how long it takes, which by the way is very streamlined and doesn’t take long at all. On the tongue as well, so no particle of Jesus body blood soul and divinity is lost.
      That’s why the priest tightly pinches his fingers together during mass to keep any particle from falling. No amount of reverence can keep this from happening if the host is passing from hand to hand. 🙏🏼😔

    @/askascension Suffering is supposed to be as good a prayer in that if it is offered up it can help sinners get to heaven. Suppose you are not a good sufferer and complain about it. Is it still good to offer up or do you have to be one of those silent long suffering sufferers? How does suffering help sinners and can all of it be used even if you complain about it. I know when i am suffering i would wish it away in a minute if i could. I i could I would not silently accept it so if i am not on board with it can it still be offered up. Can you also use it to get yourself into heaven or is that selfish? When we were kids if we didn't get our own way someone would always say offer it up and shut up.

      @BridgetSpitznagel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At that point in the Mass (where we are tempted to check out) it's bread and wine being carried forward and placed on the altar. It is both *literally* a real item really being sacrificed to God *and also* represents the *spiritual* sacrifices that we have made and that we desire to figuratively place on the altar (we cannot literally place "longanimity during a headache" or "patience during a traffic jam when I was already late" on an altar, as they are not physical.)
      But yes, later in the Mass what is physically on the altar is the body and blood of Christ, just not during the offertory song etc.

      He does not mean the Holy Eucharist is symbolic. It is truly the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is only saying that as the priest is preparing the Bread and Wine, as he offers them up. We can offer up our sufferings, and our prayers. The offering up is symbolic because we can offer up our own sufferings.

      Those of us who cannot carry a tune in a bucket are encouraged to sing silently. Sing in our hearts and spirits, just not out loud. God is not praised by offending His ears!

    I follow each and every word at mass. Latin is not going to bring people back. If they want to bring more beauty to the mass go back to the earlier versions of the English Mass. They had more meat to them.

    This is a man who has never and will never drag a toddler to mass on a weekly basis.
