I’m 48 now and ruptured my Achilles 2 years ago. I was told that surgery wasn’t an option for me on the NHS and that they only offer to elite athletes so my only option was conservative treatment. No I’m not an elite athlete but I consider myself quite athletic, especially for my age. I’ve skateboarded at a good level for 30+ years and I actually ruptured my Achilles skateboarding. In addition, I’m also a keen runner and have been running as long as I’ve been skating. The point I want to make to those now worried about taking the conservative option is that I have fully recovered and am skating and running as well as I could before my injury. The only thing I will say is that it took over a year for me to get back to this level and I followed a strict rehab and physio plan. The hardest part I found was getting my calf muscle bulk back and that to this day, it is still not quite there yet.
This is helpful information! I'm 5 weeks into mine, 36 years old, and not an elite athlete but someone who does HIIT training every day and soccer once a week. I'm in Canada and wasn't given a surgical option either - I've been taking my rehab very seriously and I'm working with a great athletic therapist, but I think I'll continue to worry about my ability to get back to where I was until I'm there.
@@DW88 sorry to hear about your injury. But sounds like you have a solid recovery plan. My advice is be strict with that and be patient. You can’t rush this recovery. Good luck 🤞
Jarrod I need your help? I’m trying to rehab myself on what I believe a partial rupture. No surgery just heel wedges, don’t smoke don’t drink and I’m 37 years old

thank u men
I'm guessing the NHS will mostly likely avoid the surgery option....due to costs😮
