Indymogul should really do competitions or something where we all have to make videos using the effects they show how to do.. would make it a lot more fun :)
I wish zack put more effort into making good build episodes. I mean he knows his stuff, but he has so many side projects for himself, that indy mogul gets put to the side. I feel like he is just tossing us scraps to keep us happy.
Too bad this show isn't around any more. I need some effects tips for a potential fan film I'm thinking of doing. In the fan film, the main character gets his right arm and left leg torn off in a fight.
+Tristan Wassman Paint the arm or get a full body morph suit at most costumes shops and do the bloody gory make up on the ripped part of the fabric. They have lots of tutorials on youtube for that.
Call me a wuss, but I don't watch The Walking Dead, because I have a VERY sensitive stomach. Even talking about something disgusting will make me sick.
Hey! Zack is just showing you the method! If you want to put it into practice you can rip a hole in your cloths and put the green card beneath it, and shoot lots of takes to make sure you get it right... if you do, using this method will look really really awesome! This show gives you the building blocks to be really good indie film-makers, if you want higher quality, mix this with some other tutorials like the blood spatter one and other things... so to all the moaners; USE SOME INITIATIVE!!!
Due to the lack of properly spelled submissions, people REALLY want a Plasma Sword from Halo. I believe this could be accomplished with plastic and LED's, similiar to the arc reactor build.
@fredmaniak123 But with Eric's tutorial, you can adjust certain parts of the making of the glove to get the 2010 version. That's the great thing about the tutorials: you don't have to follow them exactly or use the exact same pieces (as you may live in areas where the exact pieces can't be found). Look up pictures of the 2010 and the 1980s version of the gloves. You'll see that there is only one difference between them (and that the tutorial can be used for it)
I like it! One thing, I would like to submit something to YourFX however when I go to the Submit link, and use the drop down to select BackYard Effects, it is not there. Where should I send the clip?
By itself the effect won't fly, but coupled with burned t-shirt edges, a latex chest hole inside to simulate some skin scarring, acting as a frame for a green center, it will soar.
great effect to do, cheap and easy aswell, but i think with loads of zombie makeup, loads of fake blood and guts everywere, would make the effect sweet. im sure it will look good in the test film!
I wouldn't cut the green paper though. Tape the paper to your chest (or paint your chest green), rip a hole in the shirt and add blood around the edges of the shirt hole. No shadow and more realistic than a clean looking cutout in the shirt.
This DIY will do if you're super new to the moviemaking world, so it's not as useless as so many commenters say, but it IS really really low quality. And I agree with xXIornManiacXx
I've been wondering for awhile, why do they always put links to the "current episode of BFX" if we're already watching it. Like putting a link to a video, on the video you're linking to. I don't get it.
I liked the plastic bag as the intestines, made it look glossy and the added blood dripping over the hole was a nice touch. Would it have been easier to have filmed a clean plate background and then the box on a green background so you could match move it a little closer to the actors movements? Just a thought.
There should have been a hole in the shirt and makeup used on the skin itself with the center painted green, then keyed, and better tracking would have been a good idea as well. But it's still a good start. Nice job guys. :)
Looks pretty good, and i like the idea behind it, but i would place my green paper underneath you T-shirt, and cut a hole in it on the place you want to have it. In this way, it doesn't look like a hole pasted on your shirt, but more like a hole. You can let some pieces of your shirt fall over it, just because it looks nice:). The idea of the backs as inside was genious.
It only looks fake because there are no shirt tears for the hole, and the green edge due to bad keying doesn't help sell it either. But if you had shirt tear and put the green paper behind the shirt, then this effect would've been better. Just my 2 cents.
Whatever happened to your test film about the money thing. It looked pretty cool but you guys just showed a trailer. The test film for the money effect (the one where a character looked like Sayid from LOST)
Please make a on Video Editing software! I know that you guys have told us what you use, but a demo of some of the more popular ones would be awesome! THUMBS UP SO THEY'LL SEE IT!
You have to admit it's a cool effect for a cheap price. Just needs a little more work on editing and making it look more realistic. Other than that I actually like the effect. Definately useful in my case.
@neothespian I actually don't make my own films. I just like watching these. & while I've never made this effect myself, I have seen it done MUCH better. Besides, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who didn't like this effect, & I was probably a lot more polite about it than some of the others.
@HoldenSouthardsTv It looks much, much more realistic if you cut a hole in your shirt and put the green screen underneath rather than sticking it onto the shirt.
FOR THOSE OF YOU DEMANDING THE HALF LIFE HEV SUIT! I tried this. I almost succeeded. You use the same trick used to make the Master Chief Suit, but with the HEV suit. There are designs online. I gave up half way through because it takes f-ing forever.....
I was wondering how to do this and after 5 seconds threw the ad at the beginning of the video I found out how or atleast I think since I haven't finished the ad yet
I did this a while back in a slightly more expensive way that looked real: Make a hole in a shirt and bloody up the edges. Run a small camera to the back of your shirt the same height as the hole and make a small hole for the camera to look out of. Next connect a small flat screen to the inside of the hole and make sure the edges are covered. Connect the screen and the camera. done.
Remember being 8 years old watching these videos. Giving me so much nostalgia rn miss the old Indy mogul
This channel used to be OG back in the day.
Indymogul should really do competitions or something where we all have to make videos using the effects they show how to do.. would make it a lot more fun :)
Damn he just got king crimson'ed
just gonna say it, It doesn't need to be mogulween for you to do gore effeects. we love'em all year round. good episode!
I wish zack put more effort into making good build episodes. I mean he knows his stuff, but he has so many side projects for himself, that indy mogul gets put to the side. I feel like he is just tossing us scraps to keep us happy.
Bfx is getting better!
seriously they need to bring this show back!!!!!
Great starting point. You can even get more detailed with the "innerds box" to make the effect more realistic. Good job guys thanks!
Too bad this show isn't around any more. I need some effects tips for a potential fan film I'm thinking of doing. In the fan film, the main character gets his right arm and left leg torn off in a fight.
i7fan They'd have to be pretty damn long socks. I'm not just talking about part of the arm or part of the leg. I'm talking about the whole damn thing.
+Tristan Wassman Paint the arm or get a full body morph suit at most costumes shops and do the bloody gory make up on the ripped part of the fabric. They have lots of tutorials on youtube for that.

I have a growing feeling that repeats are becoming a big theme here on Indy Mogul.
SHINEI! Kakyoin!

we all miss erik, but you have to admit, zack is doing a great job
Best wheel spinning.
Ever.
Of all time.
nice video - can't wait to try it with my film group. Thank you!
I like it! One thing, I would like to submit something to YourFX however when I go to the Submit link, and use the drop down to select BackYard Effects, it is not there. Where should I send the clip?
i liked this...idk why you guys dont like it
its better than not having one of these for another month
I think this episode was pretty good actually
By itself the effect won't fly, but coupled with burned t-shirt edges, a latex chest hole inside to simulate some skin scarring, acting as a frame for a green center, it will soar.

zack Indymogul is really going down hill please step your game up

what software do you use for greensceen? and is there any free yet reliable ones?
There should have been a hole in the shirt and makeup used on the skin itself with the center painted green, then keyed, and better tracking would have been a good idea as well. But it's still a good start. Nice job guys. :)

hey zack, can you give me a link to a video with a difficulty of 1?
@SharProductionVideos where i live i cant buy anything, and i dont think i can ship here either ( canada)
i just have to say BEST WHEEL SPIN EVER!!!
Show how to do a large scale air cannon for a explosion effect with all the dust and foam bits blowing out.
pro tip: feather/blur the edges to get rid of the green and the straight hole, feathering is the best!!!
I saw zack in person at wonder con this year but I did not have time to say hi I was heading to panel I think...
It only looks fake because there are no shirt tears for the hole, and the green edge due to bad keying doesn't help sell it either. But if you had shirt tear and put the green paper behind the shirt, then this effect would've been better. Just my 2 cents.
finally a build by Zack,
p.s poor puppet Zack
@KickerLivinLoudL7 It's been done as others have said. Waterproof camera case.
that was actually pretty good. I wouldn't have thought to make a fake chest.
Whatever happened to your test film about the money thing. It looked pretty cool but you guys just showed a trailer. The test film for the money effect (the one where a character looked like Sayid from LOST)
why not use a motion track instead of trying to recreate the movement by hand?
Makeing the H.E.V suit would be almost impossible to do. But I do for one want the H.E.V
I find zack much better at physical effects
@hemmglass AGREED! Half life h.e.v suit would be awesome
cool, looks really retro.
Please make a on Video Editing software! I know that you guys have told us what you use, but a demo of some of the more popular ones would be awesome!
THUMBS UP SO THEY'LL SEE IT!
model it in a 3d application then match the camera, render the passes then composite and colour correct in aae.
best spinning the wheel EVER!!
thank you thank you! Will do this in the future!
You have to admit it's a cool effect for a cheap price. Just needs a little more work on editing and making it look more realistic. Other than that I actually like the effect. Definately useful in my case.
Eric is SOOOOOOOOO MUCH BETER IM SOOOOOOO GLAD HE GOT THE SHOW BACK LONG LIVE ERIC
the suggestion box next to the video has some Crazy Videos!
@neothespian I actually don't make my own films. I just like watching these. & while I've never made this effect myself, I have seen it done MUCH better. Besides, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who didn't like this effect, & I was probably a lot more polite about it than some of the others.
@90beans Don't know what kind of knife you're looking for, but use this in the TH-cam search: Michael Myers Costume - Part 2 - The Knife
The level ten difficulty was in the camera rig video. Look it up to see it.
@HoldenSouthardsTv It looks much, much more realistic if you cut a hole in your shirt and put the green screen underneath rather than sticking it onto the shirt.
The insides look legit, it just needs to be a little more blended out on the sides. It makes it look reeeeally fake.
FOR THOSE OF YOU DEMANDING THE HALF LIFE HEV SUIT!
I tried this. I almost succeeded. You use the same trick used to make the Master Chief Suit, but with the HEV suit. There are designs online. I gave up half way through because it takes f-ing forever.....
zack do u mind if i use the wheel for my bfx show for my new channel plzzzzzzzzzzz respond
JoJo Fans: This guy got donuted
I was wondering how to do this and after 5 seconds threw the ad at the beginning of the video I found out how or atleast I think since I haven't finished the ad yet
nope I didn't get it right but I know how to do this not in a video but in real life without sticking a pipe threw your chest
Hey Could You guys make the Thompson Sub machine gun from Bioshock? that would be awesome
will u do make fx like eric did plz
the efect was crap, but this was by far the best puppet zack bit.
can you use this for a head shot?
indy mogul is still here -_-. its Backyard FX that you want back i assume.
that was easy yet very helpful! :)
@KickerLivinLoudL7 they already did one. it was the underwater camera
please please show me how i can make the mirroring of some guy doing something completely different
What the hell was Puppet Zack doing behind Zack? He hasn't caught the zombie bug again, has he?
please do a car rig for a camera so you could film a conversation inside of a car
@KickerLivinLoudL7 There is a level 10. The assassins creed blade is a level 10 build.
The effect might look better, if you make a hole in the t-shirt, and the put the green paper under. But then you´ll need two identical t-shirts.
You should do the ear cutting effect from Reservoir Dogs, that would be proffesional.
You should do a how-to on how to make a good episode of BFX...
Make a Sonic Screwdriver! I love Doctor Who and I totally want an original one for myself!
@Lyow1 did you press play?
it whould of looked way more relistic if you put some shirt residue on the box so that it looks more practical, not just like a beam cannon accsidant
Erm... is that the guy from Stargate Universe? No, just kidding, great job Zack! I'm gonna do this for my next movie!
@officicalfat no u don't. the cheapest out there is probably sony vegas and thats only about £30 which is about $50-$60
cool this fx was used in stray heart by green day!
@fredmaniak123 Eric's done a tutorial on Freddy's glove. Just make the slight alterations to match the one in the recent film.
Can u make a springloaded hookshot like from ocarina of time?
awesome, I always love these.
just an idea - doctor who's tardis? (yea, I'm a nerd)
can u shows us how to make prop guns?
nice. way cheaper and better than the same effect done on youreffects a couple years ago
This was not a bad build, their editing program just didn't sell the whole idea. Also it could have been easier to film with.
Connect the screen and the camera. done.
Good idea, good practical effect
but could have had better camera tracking and more could have been done in post to really sell the effect
@KickerLivinLoudL7 they did a level ten build with the underwater camera
@spadeking0 isnt that like a gas mask with a black helmet you can probably make the eyes red with red LED lights but it would still be cool
has there ever been a level 10 difficulty build?
@EvanDrumm what was it? can u link it for me?
i was subscribed to you and didnt know it.
how to make a head ripp of from the body pls make a tutorial???
Great stuff.
@The80sKickAss definitely a box bigger on the inside than the outside...I think they could pull it off.
@KickerLivinLoudL7 Did you see his underwater camera case build? That was a level ten.
